"Right-o!" Silas gave his sibling a thumbs-up before turning away and throwing another volley of needles at the general. The blob on its head twitched and shrieked as before, but it still held on tightly, dark liquid oozing down the head of the moving corpse. If it had not been for the blob, Silas would have gone straight for the head with his knife, but there was no telling if the creature would try to latch onto him... And the Sheikah did not fancy ending up as nothing more than a puppet.

Instead, he kept circling Nihil, releasing volleys of needles, sometimes even rocks picked off the ground, all to throw the general off-balance when he was about to attack, or just to try and keep him distracted from Sirius. The latter seemed to be succeeding with hitting the general with another blow of lightning. When the general's body violently twitched from the force of the shock, Silas held his breath. Could they finally be gaining the upper hand?

Both siblings were ready to put the next part of the plan in motion. The great thing of having a not-quite-alive opponent was that you could discuss tactics and next moves out loud without endangering them.

"As soon as I have the chance, I'll throw up another wall!"

When Sirius struck Nihil with the now-empty lightning rod, hoping the blob wouldn't be able to tell the difference, it lashed out at him with an electric shock. Sirius put the rod between it and himself and stepped back, letting Silas do his thing so he could wait for an opening. He had a plan... if they were fast enough... but Sirius had a busted leg, there was no way he was going to be fast enough! He'd have to find something, but for now, he kept an eye on Silas and Nihil. Finally, the general and the monster controlling him turned to the elder Sheikah. This was his chance!

He leapt forward, closing the distance between him and Nihil, and jabbed into the general's neck. He came to an abrupt halt once more, so Sirius stepped back. "Silas, NOW!"

He just got out of range when Silas's Wall of Hazards popped up from right under Nihil, keeping a steady flow of electricity going for a few seconds. The Wall could be used to charge the rod, but the leaps forwards and back had already taken their toll on his leg, so Sirius took a risk. If this went wrong, they'd have to start all over, but... "Brother! Target the area where the monster meets his head and really drive the point home!" With that, he swung his arm forwards and threw the lightning rod towards Silas, the Wall of Hazards within its trajectory.

    This had better work...

With a movement so smooth it seemed as if they had practiced it many times before, Silas grabbed the lightning rod out of the air. As surprised as he was at his own success in catching the rod, he did not have long to linger on it, as he had only seconds to act while the general was stunned. But the Sheikah had the opening he needed, and with the power of the wall of hazards already wreaking havoc on Nihil...

Silas lashed out, swinging the rod as he would swing a sword. It crackled with electricity, small sparks appearing around the top as it swept through the air, crashing against the corpse's unprotected skin. Nihil twitched even more violently, spasming now, as the overload coarsed through his nerves, the blob on his head letting out an ear-piercing shriek as it shuddered and shook.

An amour-clad arm swung out, smashing Silas in the stomach and throwing him back, but the damage had been done. The blob had controlled the body with shocks, just strong enough to make the muscles react. With the electricity of the Sheikah's wall AND the fully-charged lightning rod, it had become too much for the body to bear, its nerves overloaded. A burning stench rose from the general's corpse, filling the air along with the shrieks of the creature controlling it, though not for much longer...

The creature had also taken a blow from the sudden influx of electricity, and with its host incapacitated, it had no choice but to let go. Nihil fell limply to the ground, looking even more scorched and battered than before. Silas tried his hardest not to look at his face, though he could not avoid taking a quick glance. And quickly wishing he had not, when he felt his stomach roll.

It worked. To Sirius's immense relief, Silas understood what he wanted, caught the rod, and didn't just deal damage to Nihil but fully detached the monster from his head. Nihil's body fell over, and while Silas looked at it and recoiled in horror, Sirius's attention remained on the blob. It was not dead yet. Of course not- that had never been part of this phase of the plan, after all. Frying what had been left of Nihil's brain had robbed it of its weapon, but it was still alive.

Still, Sirius figured that now that it was on its own, it would be no different than the ones they had fought before. As such, he drew his swords and enchanted it with Shadow. THe literature had been right, he idly noted- the enchantment became progressively easier to cast and control as he used it more often. To his horror, however, the monster crawled towards him fearlessly, apparently determined to reclaim its weapon. "Hey!" Sirius called, raising his free hand to cast a Shadow Ball, "I don't think so!"

Hearing his brother calling out snapped Silas back to attention. He whipped around to see the blob crawling towards Sirius, who had begon to cast a spell in retaliation. They somehow had to keep it away from not only Nihil's body, but also their own. With the general's body now useless, surely the creature would try to attatch itself to a new, fresher host. And with the only two candidates present being the two brothers...

Silas' lips settled into a grim line as he unseathed his knife. The muscles around his stomach ached from the blow he had taken and he was starting to grow tired, but this was not the time to give up. He knew what could happen if he let his attention or resolve slip, and he would not let that happen again. As soon as his younger brother threw the shadow ball at the creature, Silas darted forward, raising his knife and slashing through the blob. Shocks ran through his arm when his weapon touched it, his muscles clenching and forcing a startled cry from the Sheikah, but soon enough the shock was gone, as was the creature.

Just like the others they had encountered, it shrivelled up when cut in half, leaving only two small dried up pieces of the thing that only mere minutes ago controlled one of Hyrule's finest.

    Speaking of which...

The brothers heard a sharp, scraping sound behind them. Upon turning around, they were just in time to see the general Nihil's body being dragged into the hole Silas had fallen into, a thick tentacle wrapped around its leg. Silas' breath caught in his throat, but he wasted no time in rushing after the body, though he was not quick enough to grab it. It disappeared into the hole, hitting the stones below with a hard thud and more dragging noises as something pulled it deeper into the sewers.

Said something appearing to both Sheikah as an enourmous shadow on the wall of the sewers, and a few slithering tentacles just disappearing from view. But it was clear in which direction the being was moving.

"Mother of- ...Sirius! It's moving towards the center of town!"

Sirius had hurried over to Nihil's body along with Silas, so he had seen it too. He nodded. "It is!" he called, admittedly more startled than he would like to admit. "We have to hurry after it! Rover!" The dog came running, having come out of the cover he had assumed when the battle with the controlled general had gotten too shocking for his tastes. "Let's go," he said to Silas, "Town centre should be this wa--"

He interrupted himself when his voice was drowned out by a crashing noise, followed by an uneasy rumbling. It was as in slowmotion that he turned around, only to see his death approaching at a rapid pace. An enormous, unreal volume of water had broken through the bubble created by the Hylian and Zora mages, and was coming right at them. Fortunately, when he looked to his front again, he saw the shield reforming as it repaired itself where it could, even if that meant it would become smaller as a result. But if they were caught outside it... "SILAS!" he shouted, "Part of the shield has given way!" He pointed forward. "Start running, or we -will- drown!"

Silas did not have be told to run twice. His eyes had gone wide as saucers when he saw the wall of water approaching, and the Sheikah was on his feet, running for his life before he knew it. Around them, the city shook and rumbled as it collapsed even more, the wave of water chasing them consuming all in its path, though neither of the men looked back to see it. The deafening roar of water and crumbling stone proved enough.

But all of a sudden, it stopped, and when Silas dared to glance over his shoulder he saw the water crash against an invisible barrier. It seemed they had managed to reach part of the city where the shield was stronger. Though the implications of it failing were not pleasant. Silas could only hope the other mages would be able to hold up the shield.

For now, their main concern was to head back to the center of town, to warn the villagers and army of what was coming towards them. And, if possible, start an evacuation, even though their resources were limited. But what they had seen in the sewers was heading their way, and rapidly, and if Nihil and the strange dark blobs had been any signs, this thing would be devastating.

Silas moved closer to his brother.

"We have to alert the army, if they fight with us, we might stand a chance. And the villagers... We have to get them out of here as fast as we can. Abandoning the city is their only hope of survival. I don't know how we're going to do it, but that- that thing, we don't even know what it is! We can't let it reach them!"

Once inside the shield, Sirius stumbled. His leg was starting to protest loudly against how much it had been used throughout the day, and he had to grit his teeth and force himself to keep running between Silas and Rover. Had he known he would have to fight eldritch horrors and run for his life all day, he would have left this matter to Professor Clearwater. Still, he was here now, and he prided himself on seeing things through to the end. "You have people skills," he said, his mind running a million miles per hour, "You try and calm down the people and convince them they have to leave. I will speak with General Onox and help devise an actual evacuation plan." He stumbled again, regaining his balance just in time to avoid falling flat on his face. He would be so happy when this was over and he could sit down or take a carriage home.

Once they arrived at the town centre, though, he stopped in his tracks, his pain forgotten, and put a hand on Rover's head so he wouldn't run ahead. What had happened here? The people were no longer standing off to the side, clustered together in groups. They were falling over each other in their rush to get -well, where were they going? Some were engaged in a struggle with soldiers, who appeared hard-pressed to subdue them without using enough force to injure them. Others were trying to run away from the centre, only to be stopped by others who tried to keep them in. A few people seemed to be trying to keep the peace, but they were sorely outnumbered.

Even more worrying were the Zora mages that they had seen before- a few of them were unconscious on the ground, with no one tending to them because the remaining mages needed all their focus to maintain the shield. That explained why part of it had fallen away- but had they passed out due to exhaustion, or had someone knocked them out on purpose? Sirius shook his head in disbelief. "No," he muttered. "This is the worst that could have happened! Silas, help me find Onox- we need to know what's going on, and we need a plan to get everyone on one page before that -thing- gets here!"

The situation was worse than Silas had expected. There had already been rumours of bad relations between the citizens and the army when they first arrived down here, but that it had actually come to blows between the two was a shock. With the city still sinking and monsters rapidly approaching, infighting was the last thing they could use. Even more, it was a danger to the mages trying to keep everyone alive, as the ones on the ground proved. The Sheikah sincerely hoped that it was exhaustion that had downed them.

Sirius had set off to find Onox, and Silas quickly followed suit. The man was not hard to find, dressed in a splendid armour like Nihil, although much less damaged than the latter.

But soon enough it proved that Onox' authority was useless. They found him in the middle of all the chaos, looking helplessly at the situation around him. A large bruise over his eye told the brothers that his attempts at keeping the peace had not gone smoothly.

"S-sirs!" Onox stood to attention when he noticed them, but quickly let his arms hang when he saw Silas' expression. "I tried to keep them calm, but my men... Without Nihil, they lost all morale. One of them- one tried to flee, others followed suit and-" He sighed deeply. "The citizens saw. The ones who were meant to protect them trying to flee. I have failed both as a leader to keep my men under control, and as a soldier to keep the peace. I tried to talk to them but they would not listen to me, fear and despair have claimed them now." The general gestured to his blackened eye.

"Listen, something's coming." Silas replied grimly, every trace of joviality gone from his voice. "There's no way we can face it on our own. We have to protect the citizens, get them somewhere safe, start to evacuate them. Gather the men that will listen to you, we will deal with the rest."

Onox had summoned his men, and they had arrived, within minutes, with a few terrified, but otherwise calm (although 'calm' was a relative term at the moment) civilians. They were gathered in this one corner of the square, and Sirius grimaced at their small number. Still, it was better than nothing- if they could get this rabble organised, they might at least be able to get -some- people to safety. Still, Onox was a pitiable sight at the moment, and his authority had already failed once. When the general motioned to step forward, Sirius interfered. "Sir, if I may. Perhaps it would be better if I spoke to the men."

Onox looked him up and down for a moment, then asking, "Are you certain you are up to the task? They are restless."

"I can keep order in a class full of nineteen- to twenty-one-year olds," Sirius assured him. "I am up to the task." Onox nodded and stepped back, letting the Sheikah take center non-existant stage. Normally, he would wait naturally until the clamour in his class died down, but they had no time for that at the moment, so he used his alternative method of drawing attention and gave Rover a signal. Immediately, the hound got up, standing at his side, and gave a series of loud, clear barks. The men and women gathered turned their heads towards the noise, seeing Sirius giving them pointed stares. It worked; they settled down. In the end, people were all students in one way or another. Now, he just had to explain their assignment to them.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the Hyrulean army, sirs and madams of Impa," he began, as Rover sat down next to him, "I would introduce myself, but we do not have time. As you have all undoubtedly noticed, the situation has escalated to the point where it is no longer manageable. We must evacuate Impa immediately, or suffer casualties on a scale the likes of which we've not seen since Ganon's invasion." He put his hands together. "Sirs, madams, please see if you can calm down any of your relatives and friends and convince them to line up at the northwestern edge of town, which is closest to the shore. We will come up with something." Now, he gave the crowd a pointed stare. This is where he enforced his deadline and informed class of the consequences of not handing in on time. "I want everyone gathered there within ten minutes. This is a hard deadline; my partner and I have encountered a monster that takes control of human brains, as well as a wraith that we cannot-"

    "Bullshit!"

One man had shouted, but the murmur among the crowd swelled quickly until they all started to talk back. This was a mistake; Sirius did not tolerate back-talk from the class. Just as he stepped forward to pick out the instigator and make him into an example, however, the ground between the crowd and the fighting horde began to rumble and shake. Was the city sinking so far that the pressure of the deep was already tearing it up? No... no, this was something far worse. "GET BEHIND THE GENERAL!" Sirius shouted, his voice stern and unforgiving. "NO IFS, WHATS, OR BUTS!" The people must have understood from his tone that he would backhand everyone who protested, and he watched as the people ran by him and gathered around Onox. And just in time, too, as the ground burst open.

One massive webbed foot came out, landing on the ground with a bang. Another followed. A second later, as the monster braced itself, and then a head came above the ground. Sirius gasped and took a step back, his stern facade gone as he looked upon a massive lizard's head decorated with a crown of writhing tentacles, which extended along what he could see of its neck and back. Most horrifying of all, from these tentacles grew small, electrified blobs that Sirius recognised all too well. The beast was translucent, showing its skeleton and its various purple organs, pulsating as it looked around itself. It did not bother to get more than its upper body out of the sewers, but finally its hollow, black gaze settled upon Sirius and one of the tentacles started to reach towards him.

The whole situation had become a nightmare. Everything already kept growing from bad to worse at a speed that terrified Silas, turning their mission into something that seemed to come straight out of his darkest dreams.

He watched as the gigantic creature slowly started sweeping its tentacles around, shock rooting him to the spot. The chaos and panic that had taken hold of all present returned in full force as the monster turned its attention to them. It grabbed a nearby villager with one of its tentacles, carelessly tossing them up in the air and swallowing them whole. Silas felt sick when he saw the monster's guts move as its victim was forced inside.

The panic grew even worse when the blobs growing from the tentacles reached the ground and started crawling around, attaching themselves to new hosts, citizen and soldier alike. People screamed and ran, trying to run for cover and away from the monstrous being that had torn up the ground.

"NO! Hide in the town hall! Barricade the doors and stay out of sight!" Silas bellowed, drawing people's attention to himself. "Everyone still capable of fighting, pick up arms! The rest, help each other to reach safety!"

Around him, people started to move, still terrified, but much more orderly. It seemed their instinct to survive was kicking in. Soldiers unseathed their weapons, a few citizens picked up the ones that had been discarded, and others tried to herd and help others into the town hall, one of the few buildings that was still intact.

"Do NOT let these things attatch to your head." The Sheikah clarified, slashing one of the blobs in half. "Those that have been taken are beyond saving. Death will not stop them, only destroying the creatures controlling them will."

Silas rolled out of the way of a tentacle, grunting when the impact with the ground send a flash of pain through his abdomen. Nihil had hit him much harder than he had initially thought.

Sirius unsheathed his sword and swung it in the blink of an eye, striking the tentacle that came towards him as he recovered from the shock just in time to save himself. It writhed back, but the lizard itself didn't really give him any feedback. It must not have hurt much. How could it, Sirius wondered as he stared up at the thing. It was so huge. How would his toothpick of a sword hurt that? On the other hand, it was translucent. Maybe its skin was very fragile...

He realised this was not the time to be theorising when he became aware once more of the sounds around him. The lizard extended more tentacles towards the people around it, and grabbed a few. Sirius snapped his head to a side when he heard a woman scream, and rushed over to cut through the tentacle. At least they had that much going for them, he supposed; it was possible to cut through them, they weren't armoured or protected by magic. "The town hall," he said to her, pointing her in the right direction. "Don't come out until we say it's safe."

When she took off, Sirius found Silas. "I think it's safe to say we've found the source of the problem," he said. "The question now is, how do we get rid of it?!"

"If I knew, dear baby brother, I wouldn't be running around panicking." Silas replied, keeping an eye out for any tentacles or blobs coming their way. Most of the non-combatants seemed to have been able to flee now, the last few being helped along by some of the soldiers to reach the town hall's doors. Others were fighting the unfortunate few that had become hosts for the monster's spawns, hacking away at bodies that had become mere puppets. It was a desperate battle, but they all knew that if they did not fight, the city would sink and they would perish in the depths, or end up as one of the monsters' hosts.

"Look around h-" Silas was cut off by a tentacle nearly smashing the two brothers. He jumped to the side, the large thing missing him by by mere inches. It lifted itself off the ground, weaving through the air before it made another jab at the elder Sheikah. This time Silas was less lucky in dodging it. The tentacle wrapped itself around his leg, lifting the man up in the air. The Sheikah wasted no time in stabbing wildly at it, but no matter how viciously he attacked, the tentacle kept an iron grip on him, lifting him even higher in the air. Frantically trying to escape, Silas closed his hands around the appendage, focusing his power into it and releasing a burst of flames. That, along with his earlier attacks, deterred the monster enough to let him go, though it did not do so gently. Instead, the tentacle wildly whipped around, flinging the Sheikah towards nearby buildings.

Silas landed with a thud and skidded along the roofs, taking quite a few tiles with him. The impact had forced the air from his lungs and he needed a moment to come to his senses, dazed by the impact. With a groan, he forced himself up. It seemed he could still move his limbs... Stiffly, and they were starting to hurt more and more the longer his battles went on, but as long as he breathed he would fight. Willpower was one of the Sheikah virtues, after all. Silas scrambled to his feet, taking in his surroundings. The monstrous lizard had thrown him onto one of the buildings surrounding the central plaza. At the end of the roof was a tall spike, meant to take the blows from any raging thunderstorms. But it had been damaged in the sinking of the city, and now hung at an angle, bent at the point where it met the roof. It was useless for its original purpose, but perhaps Silas could use it to create a safe descent for himself. Using it to swing down from did not seem a bad idea to him.

Sirius didn't have the strength left to jump, so he dove to the ground instead, sliding under the tentacle and to safety. Rover came up towards him, barking loudly in concern for his master, and he made sure to touch the hound for a moment before righting himself. It looked like the vast majority, if not all, of the civilians were now inside the town hall. He hurried over to the nearest soldiers, clapped them both on a shoulder to get their attention, and instructed, "get a few men inside the town hall, then close and barricade it, and put a few guards outside its doors. I'm counting on you two to get it done." Both men nodded and saluted, apparently glad to get away from the direct fighting for a moment.

Sirius, for his part, turned to the enormous lizard, the world around him seeming to move more slowly as he zoned in on it. It was still half-stuck in the sewers, and didn't seem to care that it was. Or had it consciously made the decision to stay in there? ...why would it do that? Of course, Sirius thought. Time resumed at its normal pace and he saw Rover lunging at a civilian who had fallen prey to one of the slugs, pouncing him to the ground and mauling him with both front paws. Sirius interfered, letting the angry blob charge his lighting rod and then plunging it into the sap's skull. He immediately followed up by cutting the monster in two with his sword, but hesitated there. Separating the head from the body would be the most efficient way of removing potential weapons for the monsters from the field. But that was something Silas would have to do- he was no longer accustomed to turning off his humanity.

Sirius looked around until he saw General Onox, holding off two possessed soldiers at once, and hurried over to him, using a Shadow Ball as a distraction. Onox was less subtle and patient than the Sheikah brothers had been, simply bringing his weapon down from above and splitting monster and skull in one go. "Sir," Sirius said, "I think I may have a plan. I have a theory on the beast's anatomy, strategy, and weak spot." With the general giving him his attention, Sirius began to explain his theory.

It was obvious what the monster wanted- it was after food. Those of the possessed that weren't interrupted or startled by other people made little effort other than to walk towards the lizard and let themselves be devoured, and aside from tossing Silas away just earlier, that was all the tentacles did, too. What was worse, was that Sirius felt the beast was a little bigger now than it had been when it had first shown up, as the fissure in the ground had been made slightly larger. However, Sirius had an idea on where its weak point was. "See how it keeps most of its abdomen in the sewer," he pointed out, "Or at least underground. I think it's a defensive measure. Its weakness must be on its abdomen somewhere, and this is how it keeps us from getting to it."

"Your theory seems solid," Onox admitted. "I will gather a few of my best men and go into the sewers. We will find this 'weak spot,' on my knight's honour." Sirius nodded. "The rest of the soldiers will stay here, under command of you and your brother." Less than a second passed before Onox turned around. "Speaking of your brother, where has he gotten off to?"

They soon spotted him on the roof, jumping towards some half-broken lightning rod on it. "Crud," Sirius muttered, and then added, more loudly, "Silas, you dolt! WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!"

Silas was vaguely aware of his brother yelling at him as he jumped at the spike, though it was hard to make out any words over the sounds of battle. For a moment, he soared through the air, hands outstretched to catch the lightning rod. The metal felt cold in his hands as they closed around it. Unfortunately, the rod was not as sturdy as it had looked from a distance. The moment Silas swung from it, it made a loud groaning noise and snapped off, sending the Sheikah hurtling to the ground.

The landing sent a shock through his legs. He had to be very careful now, a few more blows like this and the battle would be over for him. And whatever would happen then was not pleasant, he thought to himself as he saw one of the blobs crawling towards him. As it launched itself at Silas, he struck it with the rod he was still holding, though to his great surprise, he felt an electric shock as it touched the creature. The creature itself fell back, shuddering, though it seemed to be lacking a certain... spark. Sparks that were now crackling around the lightning rod.

It looked like his brother was not the only one with a magic stick anymore.

Silas pushed himself off the ground, sweeping the rod at the blob. The sparks turned into a bolt of lightning that stunned the blob in place, making it an easy target for the Sheikah's blade. He had seen how effective the Sirius' rod had been in the fight against Nihil, perhaps this one could help him as well.

Holding the lightning rod in one hand, and his knife in the other, Silas started making his way across the plaza to his brother.

Seeing Silas safe for the moment, Sirius nodded at Onox as a sign the general could leave. When he did so, the Sheikah turned around to the battle and shook his head. Many, many more of the civilians had fallen prey to the mind-controlling monsters than he had thought at first. He saw Rover pound on one and bounce back to dodge the electric retaliation even s he thought it. To make matters worse, his leg -which he had been able to ignore for a little while but no longer- shook and pulled. He'd have to fight at range, but he hadn't brought his shortbow and Shadow Ball and Needle Storm alone wouldn't be enough...

He started to limp towards Silas so they would meet up sooner. Normally he'd be embarrassed and ashame, but his public image was the least of his concerns now. "I need a bow," he said to his brother. "I can't go into close combat like this." He didn't explain further when two civilians approached them, limbs flailing and one tried to grab hold of him. The fine movement was too complicated for the monster on his head to steer so quickly, though, so instead the arm fell harmlessly over Sirius's shoulder. Sirius wasted no time drawing the lightning rod and smashing it into the blob. By now, he knew that while dangerous, they could be incredibly slow, and he flawlessy stole the beast's charge.

He then stepped back, seeing a fist approach him, but foolishly did so with his bad leg. It buckled, sending him to the floor, and he had to settled for attacking at this range with the electricity stored. Unsurprisingly, he missed his mark and instead got the civilian in the chest. Gritting his teeth, he conjured up a handful of needles and threw those, instead. They sunk into the monster, sending it reeling. "I'm sorry," he muttered as he raised his sword and pushed himself to stand on his good leg, "But I've exhausted my other options." He leapt forward, delivering a blow he would much rather not have had to deliver, and as the body fell over limp, he crashed to the ground himself, catching his fall with both hands.

"I'll be okay," he said to Silas before the other would worry. "Just- help me see if I can loot a bow so I can make myself useful at a range where this limb doesn't put me in mortal danger."

Seeing Sirius limp like that was a bad, bad sign. Much like Silas, he looked like he was running purely on adrenaline and willpower. And despite his younger sibling's reassurances, he could not help but worry.

"Don't worry, I'll get you one. Stay safe, okay?" Silas said, before hurrying off in search of a bow. When he noticed two soldiers, he whistled at them and waved. "Guard my brother. I'll be right back." The two men nodded and ran off. The elder Sheikah would feel just that tiny bit more better now he knew his brother was not entirely alone.

The plaza looked even worse than the outskirts of town had before. Bodies littered the ground, as did shreds of stone and wood, whatever had been thrown around by the monstrous lizard bursting up below. Amongst the debris were also pieces of discarded armour and lost weapons, either thrown down in the haste to escape, or lost when their original owners were claimed as hosts or devoured by the monsters. Silas was frantically searching for a bow, while dodging and fighting off the blobs and corpses that attacked him. He was starting to grow weary. Focusing was growing more and more harder.

He finally found a bow at the edge of the plaza, half buried underneath the remains of a splintered door. The Sheikah knelt down, moving the wood away. The bow appeared to be still in usuable condition, save for the lack of arrows, he noted when he brushed it off and pulled the string a few times. What he did not notice was the shuffling sound behind him, until a blow connected with his back and sent Silas sprawling on the floor.

Silas quickly gathered whatever energy he could still muster, rolling to the side to avoid a sword that would have otherwise stabbed him right between the eyes. Instead, it caught his shoulder, and he let out a pained cry. The sight of one of the controlled corpses so close to his face was horrifying. The skin that was still visible was torn and had taken on a sickly blueish tint, but the blob on top was even worse. Blood had welled up around its teeth, anchored deep into the flesh of the unlucky citizen, and it twitched and shuddered as it prepared to jump...

But it never got the chance.

Right when Silas expected to feel row upon row of teeth sink into his head, he heard a shrill shriek and felt a spray of... well, something. Something he would rather not know of what it was. Hands grabbed him by his arm and dragged him away from the corpse, pulling him into a sitting position. It was one of the remaining citizens, armed with a now bloody halberd.

Silas took off to look for a bow, leaving Sirius with a pair of guards. "We can't stay in one place," Sirius told them. "I want to take out as many of the slugs as we can." It was a hopeless endeavour, he knew that. Rover was of little use against the things themselves, being afraid of their electricity, and while Sirius had some range at his disposal with Shadow Ball and the lightning rod, he knew how limited his use of either was. Fortunately, Silas had left him with two able-bodied men, who moved in front of him and cut down blobs left and right as they came towards them.

One of them was caught off-guard and reeled as a slug jumped towards him from a side, but Sirius was faster, casting a Shadow Ball at it and forcing it to retreat so the soldier could kill it. They fell simply enough, Sirius supposed, their threat level was to be derived from their ability to control the mind of whoever they got hold of. The main problem with the slugs, however... was the infinite supply. As he watched the lizard, he saw several of the slugs detaching from its head and raining down upon the ground before it, slowly crawling away in search of new victims. "If we don't do anything, the city will be overrun with those things. Keep hacking!"

The men did as ordered, mowing down every slug that came their way and then some. Sirius helped out where he could, but in doing so they attracted the attention of the horde, and more and more of the slugs came towards them. The Sheikah ended up drawing his own sword and helping with the endeavour, but exhaustion was taking its toll on all three of them. He needed that bow, and he needed it quickly...

The man that had saved him did not say so much as a word to Silas. He had smiled at him, helped him to his feet and darted off to fight more of the monsters, leaving the Sheikah alone. The wound on his arm stung, and blood seeped into his clothes, forming a dark stain on his sleeve. Silas frowned at it, unraveled one of the strips of fabric wrapped around his wrist and tried to tie it around his arm. Swordfighting with it was out of the question, but he could still move the lightning rod around, albeit slowly.

But getting back to Sirius was a more pressing matter, he would have a better look at the wound later. Monsters were still crawling and moving around him everywhere, proved by a probing tentacle that slid past him, dropping a few more of the blobs in the process. Silas dispatched them with his knife and a good charge of the lightning rod, having slung the bow over his shoulder. Without arrows it was useless. He managed to salvage a few from the ground, pulling them out of corpses and picking up the ones that were still in one piece, sticking them through his belt for lack of a quiver.

Having gathered quite a few arrows, Silas caught sight of one of the men he had ordered to stay with Sirius. Upon approaching them, he noticed the other man, as well as his younger sibling. He ran over, jabbing the lightning rod at one of the blobs that was creeping up on Sirius from behind.

"Got your bow. A bit battered, but it'll do."

Silas handed the bow and arrows to Sirius, wincing when he made a wrong move with his arm.

"Any idea yet how to tackle this one? Hacking away at these blobs will just wear us out, there's no end to them!"

Sirius frowned when he saw Silas's arm, but he decided not to address it. The lizard and the havoc it was wreaking were more urgent and besides, they had no healers present anyway. "I've sent Onox and an elite squad into the sewers," he hurried to explain. "We suspect that's where that thing is hiding its weak spot. For now, we just need to keep the numbers of blobs manageable, wait for Onox's group to expose its weakness, destroy it, and then clean up." That was easier said than done, though. Silas had only brought him a limited number of arrows, and Sirius had to rest almost all his weight on his good leg.

"The sooner this is over, the better it will be," he muttered to himself as he took the bow in one hand and one arrow in the other, having stuck the others between his vambraces and his arms. It was hardly ideal, but it'd have to do. Sirius's archery was nowhere near as good as his swordplay or his magic, but it would have to do. Deciding he'd have to give the bow a test fire, he zoned in on a possessed soldier beginning to come his way and drew the string back.

Seconds later, the arrow zoomed through the air, only to plant itself square in the blob's form. It had a lot more impact to it than a needle did, ripping it open and letting the black ooze gush out from it, spilling over the soldier's face and body as he fell to his knees. Sirius nodded, satisfied. "I'll have to minimise my movement, but I think I can finally make myself useful. Cover me; I think I may have an idea." With that, he started to slowly limp towards the enormous lizard, trying to gauge just how close he would have to be in order to hit his intended target.
