    Laurel Veranius, the Enchanting Prodigy
    Character Information
    Age: 22.
    Gender: Female.
    Race: Hylian.
    Place of Origin: Northern Civilian.
    PWC: 2/5/2.
    Class: Mage.
    Alignment: Lawful Good.

    Skills, Spells, and Abilities
    Racials
    - Magic Proficiency: Laurel is an intellectual prodigy, but chooses either consciously or by genetics to apply this to magic. While she has a narrow focus in her magic of choice, she is incredibly gifted with it and outdoes lesser spellcasters with the greatest of ease.

    Enchantments
    - Specialty [Enchantment]: Laurel has chosen to employ her intense ability to remember and apply information and learn and cast magic in order to fully master the art of Enchanting, endowing the physical with the magical.
    - Fire Enchantment: One of the simplest Enchantments to learn, but difficult to master. Laurel is a master of the Fire Element, but describes it as highly volatile, as if it can flee her sword and run amok any moment.
    - Shock Enchantment: Laurel's second enchantment covers her rapier in an electrical current that can kickstart machinery or stun enemies. It is as volatile as the fire element, and Laurel has less control over it.
    - Ice Enchantment: Third among Laurel's enchantments is one that covers her weapon in frost, causing it to radiate cold and freeze enemies upon impact. It is much easier to contain than the fire and shock enchantments.

    Miscellaneous
    - Magic Bolt: Laurel's ranged spell of choice. While electric by default, Laurel can change this to a fireball by preparing a Fire Enchantment at the same time.

    Inventory
    Weapons
    - Rapier: Laurel's weapon of choice is a thin, light sword, with both the hilt and the scabbard forged from gold and inlaid with sapphires. She is a skilled fencer, and the blade is rarely unenchanted.

    Miscellaneous
    - Horse Call: A musical instrument resembling a very ornate horseshoe. By blowing into it while focusing on Marich, Laurel can call her steed to her side anywhere, even calming him if he has been spooked prior.

    Roleplaying Information
    Residence:
Laurel lives in a large manor in the Northern Estates of Hyrule Castle Town. She shares this manor with her parents and her elder brother, as well as a couple of servants who are by no means underpaid or mistreated, but still just that- servants. The manor is equipped with stables and a corral where she and her family keep their horses.
    Companions:
    - Marich (Riding Mount): Laurel’s horse is a very expensive and prized white fullblood, bred and trained just for her. He's clever and loyal, but definitely no fighter.

    Personal Information
    Height: 5’11”
    Appearance:
Laurel is striking, rather tall and with a slim, frail build. She has wavy, dark blue hair that she takes pride in, having grown it out to waist-length. Her eyes have similar color and betray her intelligence, but are also bright with what some argue to be magic despite them being perfectly mundane. She has a fairly pale skin tone, and like all Hylians she sports pointed ears. While she has some skill with her rapier, her hands are soft and free of any traces of frequent swordfighting, leading to many people mistaking the weapon for a dress sword.

As most women of her station, Laurel doesn’t dress for hard travel or harsh combat. She prefers her calf-length, short-sleeved white dress, over which she wears a blue bodice, decorated in black lace with a flower pattern. Her footwear depends on the day’s destination. In town, she’ll normally wear heeled dress shoes, but she’s not ignorant enough to wear anything other than her sturdy, yet sleek, leather riding boots when she leaves town.

When leaving town, and even when leaving the mansion, Laurel almost always has a rapier hanging from the right side of her waist, in a sheath plated with gold and decorated with sapphires. The sword itself seems to be forged from a silver alloy, giving it an unusual sheen and yet making it sturdy, while the basket hilt is gold and inlaid with sapphires much like the sheath. When she expects to need this rapier, she protects her hands with gloves of similar design as her boots.

    Personality:
First and foremost, a trait that Laurel shares with her elder brother is that she is a royally spoiled brat. While not completely blinded by ignorance and arrogance, she is quite ignorant of the more intricate workings of the hard world around her and expects to get what she wants; preferably WHEN she wants it and from WHOM she wants it. However, she’s not too good or too lazy to ensure that she gets it, and her willingness to figuratively get her hands dirty ensures that she usually DOES get her way.

Aside from this, Laurel is a very fiery lady. She will ‘behave’ in public or in private with fellow nobles or other highly-stationed people that she is expected to be calm and ladylike for, but once alone, provoked or otherwise able to, Laurel will drop all restraints and show how her short temper can be easily converted into courage and magical strength. Laurel has an acute and usually accurate sense of justice alongside her sense of entitlement, and the two tend to clash with spectacular results.

Above all, however, Lord Veranius’ youngest is a prodigy. She can recall anything she has read, seen, or heard, although information she has read is by far the easiest to recall while things she has heard are the hardest to dig up and analyse. This, along with her natural aptitude, makes learning magic spells a breeze. Laurel is actually warded from certain wings of the mansion’s library, lest she learn destructive magic that she simply doesn’t have the experience and thus the strength of mind to control.

    Story
    Backstory:
It is often said that spoiled brats are not born but made. This is certainly true for lady Laurel Veranius, or, as her full name entails, Laurel Arianne Melissa Veranius. She was born into a rich and talented family, so it was a given that she would be rich and talented, too.

However, as she grew up, Laurel, unlike her brother, showed little interest in the fine arts. She was a good singer, but didn’t really enjoy singing as much as her family enjoyed listening to her. She was far more interested in her father’s collection of swords and other weapons, as well as in reading magic tomes.

When Cory found her curled up under a blanket with a book stolen from her mother’s study and a sword from her father’s collection, her parents decided they’d had enough of her stealing. Laurel got her first taste of punishment that day, in the form of a spanking in front of her brother and their respective servants.

It was a humiliation Laurel never forgot, but she never stopped reading her mother’s books. In fact, she soon learned to bribe Cory with five rupees from her allowance whenever he found her.

For her eighteenth birthday, Laurel was presented with Marich, one of the finest horses bred in Lon Lon Ranch that year. She immediately fell in love with the fullblood stallion and he became her favorite pastime, whether that was riding, brushing, feeding, or braiding his long manes and tail.

By this time, she had discovered how to cast spells, and from saving up her allowances she could afford her own fencing instructor. Not that her parents wouldn’t pay for the latter if she wanted them to. She spent countless sleepless nights at her desk, writing down ways she found to weave the energy flowing through her. Whenever she sensed she had made progress with a word or a gesture, she wrote it down.

Doing so, she by the age of twenty had discovered two simple, but very useful spells, namely the power to generate blasts of pure energy (very useful for getting that nosy suitor out of your room when you were researching magic) and the ability to make her weapon very, VERY hot when fencing. Her fencing instructor, an aging man without children, had given her a beautiful rapier for her twenty-first birthday and retired shortly after that.

These days, Laurel is getting bored with her life in the manor and is considering taking Marich a little further than their standard round when she rode on Hyrule field… of course she’d have to ditch Cory for that though…
