Kalvar had to be honest with himself. He really had no idea what Julius was talking about, at all. Sure, he knew something about the Kokiri and the Koroks, but he rarely come face to face with any of them. He had passed a few in his travels, but never really sat down to talk to one. However, he did nod and take a listen when he mentioned Gohma. Nasty little buggers, he already had to kill a few of them before. Much easier to take down when you didn't actually have to get anywhere near them, or even let them know you were there. But that was his own strengths, in a head on fight, he wasn't sure how easy it would actually be.

As Julius started walking down the tunnel some more, Kalvar followed suit, slowly cleaning his own blade of the purple plant juices. By the time they arrived at a door, his sword was clean completely and he sheathed it once more. Sure, he could have cleaned while Julius was talking earlier, but just listening to Julius talk to him was more than enough to distract the archer. Here was a knight fighting by his side, and Kalvar relished the opportunity to fight with him some more, as long as it didn't mean death for them both.

Truthfully, Kalvar couldn't care any less about the symbol on the door. They had just taken down a giant plant monster, they could explore and examine all the ruins and markings and hidden stuff later. All he knew, was that in almost every dungeon or temple like this, there was the central room, where a lot of the good stuff was hidden, as well as where the monsters stayed. That was where he wanted to go, that is, if he wasn't currently letting Julius lead the expedition. Plus, they had no map, and had no idea if such a room existed, and if it did, where it would be in this maze.

As the door rolled away, and strong gusts of wind started blowing, he immediately placed his hawkeye on his face in an attempt to block the wind like goggles. It worked for the most part. It wasn't perfect, but it worked all the same. "I doubt it'll be pleasent either, but what choice do we got? It's this or a pit down to nothing." Based on Julius's earlier encounter with the winds, Kalvar took the spur of the moment decision, and pressed off first. He was caught a little bit by surprise, by just how much the winds were pushing him around. His hands held onto the wall as best he could as he started to descend.

They pressed beyond the strong gales for some time. Kargoroks and other avian monsters flew overhead, content to squabble amongst themselves. They took no notice of either of the Hylians below them, and continued to fly north from the afternoon sun.

The path descended soon enough, curving around the trunk of the enormous tree. Eventually, it lead to what looked like a a mangrove forest, being shaken around and stirred by... something. What that something would have to had been, though, was beyond Julius' knowledge. Perhaps it was a monkey, or some form of... less agreeable wildlife.

Well, Julius thought to himself, hopefully it won't be as bad as what we just slayed. He continued along the path behind Kalvar, the winds stilling the nearer they came to the grove.

"Keep wary, Kalvar," he reminded the boy, eyes searching out for whatever was causing it to rumble and shake so violently earlier.

A motion swept through the forest, and then once again. Something was behind him, but what? He turned to face it, only to see a white blur unleash a... It was a boomerang, with a vortex of wind swirling behind it.

He thought quickly. He could take the hit, but the lighter and less-armored Kalvar could not. He stood in front of the young archer, bracing himself as the boomerang violently thudded against his shield. An explosion of gusts happened after that, pushing him back a few feet, almost knocking him prone. "Alright boy," he said, noticing the archer already nock an arrow. "Keep an eye out for.. whatever the hell has the boomerang. I'll keep my senses sharp, and do my best to let you aim and get your shots in." Where was it? Julius hadn't a clue. He knew that if he kept getting hit like that, though, he'd be worn down enough... and, eventually, that might lead to him being susceptible to a more deadly attack.

Oh well. Kalvar would figure it out this time.

It strange to walk on the outside of the tree, compared to walking on the inside for so long. Bright light shining down from the sun above, the occasional shadow of a flying monster or a large bird flying over head. It would have been a beautiful sight if not for the violent winds threatening to push him and his knight friend off the tree and to their untimely deaths. With that gruesome thought in his head, Kalvar hugged the tree as best as he could as he descended.

Soon after, they were out of the majority of the winds, in some strange forested area. It was insane to think that this huge tree held tons of of smaller trees inside of it, or rather, outside of it. It was hard to tell what was actually inside the tree, part of the tree, or its own plant entirely. The place seemed to be its entire own ecosystem, which was probably filled entirely with nothing but monsters. He was a little lost in thought thinking about this when Julius spoke and told him to be wary. His attention snapped back to reality, and he gripped his bow in his hands a little tighter.

Only just now noticing something was running around in the forest, bushes and trees being brushed aside and swaying as if someone, or something, was pushing them aside. Before he could react, a whirling tornado of a boomerang came flying straight out of the brush, hitting Julius's shield, only to return to right back where it came from. Disappearing right back into the brush. He immediately nocked an arrow onto his bow, pointing straight where it came from, trying to watch for any movements. He didn't want to risk a shot, miss, and be open to attacks. He didn't even know what was attacking him, but boomerangs were a Moblins style, but certainly none this magical before.

Kalvar nodded as Julius spoke, keeping his eyes focused on the brush, following the movements in the brush with his eyes. It was up to him to take down this stealthy beast, and stealth was practically Kalvar's middle name. Suddenly, he saw the movement stop completely, and the boomerang was once again being thrown at Julius. With an incredible amount of luck, he shot straight at the boomerang, knocking it wildly off course. The magical tornado not hindering his shooting at all. The boomerang was unable to return to its owner after such a strike, and fell just outside of the woods.

Weaponless, the beast quickly stepped out of the woods to try and retrieve it once more, giving both Kalvar and Julius a good look at it. At first glance, it looked relatively normal. A huge white baboon like creature stepping out of the brush, but it was definitely not normal at all. A large bug like creature was attached firmly to his head, throbbing a little bit. The bug's legs were attached firmly to the outside of his head, and probably even cutting into the baboon's head. Before Kalvar could load another arrow onto his bow it vanished into the brush once more.

"Julius, you're the expert here on the unknown. What in Farore's name is that bug... parasite thing on its head?" He kept his eyes glued on the brush, carefully watching the movements, following them with his bow ready to fire at any given moment.

"I have about as much idea as you do," Julius said, keeping his shield level and blade out stretched to his side.

Where was it going to come from next? It seemed to move with far too much grace, elegance, and poise than its size seemed to suggest... These mangroves were awfully thick, too; not in the sense that each mangrove was thick, but that it was rather densely vegetated... Unless it wasn't. At least, not from further within whatever outcropping this place was.

"I will bet, though, that whatever it is... is probably controlling it." A familiar gust of wind came from his left-- no, behind him-- and kept moving around and around... It was difficult to tell where the boomerang was finally going to strike, but after several seconds, he noticed that it was above them. Was it toying with them?

It suddenly began to spiral downward. It wasn't toying with them-- it was just trying to use whatever animalistic intelligence it had to get the best possible strike upon them. The boomerang and its green vortex approached swifter than Julius had thought-- barely enough time to raise his shield... but was that necessarily his best option? No, he thought, training his eyes on where the boomerang had just returned to.

"Kalvar," Julius said, eyes trained on wherever the thing was moving to, "pay close attention to where that boomerang is coming from. When you see the boomerang coming from in between the trees... I want you to let loose a volley of arrows in that direction. Got it? Don't worry about getting hit."

Kalvar nodded his head at Julius as he spoke. "Will do. That monkey won't see what's coming."

Sure, he felt a little bit guilty about trying to kill a practically possessed animal, but it couldn't be helped. It was either his and Julius's life, or the monkeys. Quite frankly, Kalvar valued his life more than some random animal. Even with his archery skill, aiming directly for the parasite and shooting it, and not the monkey, was incredibly difficult. Especially with it hiding constantly in the trees and out of sight.

His eyes were trained on the trees, but even then the movement was hard to track. Having to rely more on his sense ability than his actual sight, he spun around following the monkey as best he could. It wasn't long before the boomerang started flying out of the brush, and just as Julius ordered, he let loose a volley of arrows as fast as he could. His arrows flew through the magical gale that the boomerang created, and shot straight into the brush.

A loud grunt and garbled animalistic screaming told Kalvar that he had at least hit once, but before he could celebrate the boomerang was coming straight for him. It was only a few feet from him when he did the best thing he could think to do, fall down onto his back. With an indignified yelp, Kalvar fell backwards flat onto his back, only slightly hurting his spine as the boomerang sailed right over his head.

Strangely, the boomerang didn't circle around like before, and just went straight back into the brush. What was the monkey playing at? As quick as he could, he stood to his feet holding his bow out once more. He was prepared to just repeat the process as many times as it took to finish off this fight. He was tiring quickly of this.

Just as Kalvar was about to fire once again, the beast slowly stumbled out of the brush. He was about to fire, seeing the boomerang in its hands, until he immediately noticed that practically every shot from his volley earlier had struck. The monkey's arms and chest absolutely covered in arrows, and a pained expression on its face. It fell down flat onto its face, breaking off the arrow shafts, and digging a few others in deeper. Kalvar couldn't help himself but grimace at the sight.

Suddenly, the parasite unlatched itself from the monkey's head, and started scuttling over towards the Hylians. Not taking any chances, he fired the shot prepared for monkey at the parasite itself. Shooting straight through the air with practiced skill, the arrow pierced straight through the disgusting insect like thing, sticking straight into the ground underneath. Making a high pitched squeal, the parasite wiggled its legs and oozed purple blood out of its maw, and collapsed onto the floor, clearly quite dead.

With both monkey and parasite seemingly dead, Kalvar relaxed, lowering his bow. "Well... That was definitely something, huh? Let's hope there isn't anymore parasites like that around here, but with my luck, there probably will be. We should be incredibly careful."

As soon as he finished speak, the apparently not so dead monkey stirred, slowly climbing to his feet. It's eyes glanced over at both Julius and Kalvar, who had already readed up another arrow. It seemed to stare at Kalvar for a few seconds before it looked down the boomerang in its hand. It's face suddenly contorted with rage, and the monkey snapped the boomerang in two, dropping the pieces on the ground. Immediately afterwards, the injured monkey turned around and started to stumble off into the brush once more.

Kalvar just stood there in utter silence, lowering his bow once again. That was definitely... unexpected, to say the least. "I... Well, uh... That just happened."

"Being cautious goes without saying." he said, examining the fragments of the Boomerang, "but that's definitely at least a little strange."

He looked through the wreckage, identifying a number of gems-- Wind Gems, he supposed. It would explain how the Boomerang had managed that gale effect, at least. He scooped them up, holding them closer to his eyes. "Well," Julius mumbled to himself, "this might make for a good component." He stowed away the gems for later. It wasn't every day that you came across the things, though they were one of the more common materials to be found.

"Let's continue forth, lad," he suggested, traveling through the mangroves to the other side of the meager outcropping. When they got to the edge, another path continued downward... into a place that seemed to be underneath the gargantuan tree. Perhaps where they had been traveling to before?

Well. It seemed clear enough for the two of them to travel upon, at least. "Watch your step," he reminded Kalver, not sure of whether the ground here would be the most stable.

Further down the path, only the last squealing yelps of light could be heard before they were consumed by pitch black darkness. But, Julius noticed, there was a source of light in the distance-- maybe it was a way out? Or maybe it lead to something else entirely... "Kalvar, straight ahead," he told the youth behind him, keeping his Senses sharp as his Navigation kept him preternaturally straight.

They came into a chamber beneath the tree, its roots visibly dangling overhead. How was it still supporting its colossal weight? Julius looked around, noticing the enormous lake of water only a few meters ahead of them.

Abruptly, a screech echoed forth from the pool as something shot upwards from it-- something that Julius was willing to bet was related to a Deku Baba; closer to a Serpent, probably. "Kalvar," Julius said, hastily drawing his sword from its scabbard, "ready your arrows!"

The moment he walked into the room, he could sense in the water. He was just about to say something when it suddenly sprout up from the water. Whatever it was, it was big. Bigger than even the Big Baba from before. A big plant like maw, that just seemed to be glaring down at them as if it had eyes. Only just now did Kalvar fully realize the absolute stench of the beast. It smelled like a mix of mold, and rotten corpses. Not a pleasent smell.

Kalbar quickly leapt into action. An arrow already nocked on his bow, he let loose a single shot. The arrow whistled slightly as it flew through the air, and stuck straight into the head of the beast. It recoiled slightly, but it didn't seem too badly wounded. Instead, it just shook its huge head, and Kalvar's eyes widened even more as a second head sprout up from the water.

It was just as large as the first, and just as intimidating. Sure, now it was two versus two, but he doubted he could take even one of these heads on alone. But he sure was going to try. It was either that, or giving up and dying. The first option was infinitely more preferable.

Jumping back about a foot, Kalvar loosed another arrow. Unfortunately, his aim was way off as the newly emerged head suddenly lunged straight for him. He only just barely jumped out of the way, rolling against the floor. These things were so much quicker than he thought! One second later, and he would have been a goner. He could only hope that the heads didn't get smart and both lunge at one of them at the same time.

Just as Kalvar was about to speak, the water rippled on the surface right in between the two heads. Oh for the love of all that exists, don't let there be a third head. Two, he could see them eventually taking down. But three heads? It was getting risky.

Its massive head suddenly swooped down, trying to get a taste of its prey. Julius ducked-- narrowly avoiding a rather serious gouge from its teeth.

There were three heads now, the center only being a meter or two taller than the others. Only a meter or two taller, he thought, noting that he himself only measured up to two meters fully equipped. That alone was rather terrifying for him.

And so, he ducked-- trying, desperately, to not get caught up in one of its attacks. He knew that if he were to survive, that would be the only way to really, truly destroy it.

He pulled out Lucia's Gale Boomerang for once. Why hadn't he been using it this entire time? Well, here's a good answer: he thought he wouldn't need to use it. But, as the battle slowly wore on, the fact actually became clear that if there were a time to use it, it would be right now.

He threw it once. It sparked to life as gusts and fire shrouded it-- thanks to the Fire Gems embedded upon its surface, and the blessings it had thanks to the Great Fairy. He remembered her as it took flight-- she was a... well, she was a sight, that much was true. But that didn't matter now.

No, what mattered is the inherent rage the monster was screaming in. It fell, seemingly disabled. This time, he wouldn't let a moment go to waste. With a sudden sense of haste, knowing that this would be what decided it all, he let loose a fierce Plummeting Blade. It was nearly perfect-- as all his techniques were. Only, he didn't stop there. No, instead he immediately let loose a vicious Spin Attack, perfected beauty blessing his blade. Only then would the beast be slain.

    ...

Well. That was over with. And not a moment too soon, or else they might have gotten eaten whole. "Well. There it is, then." He motioned up to a treasure hoard the size of his head up ahead. "Go on, check it out. As for these..." He fumbled around in his Adventure Pouch for a moment, before retrieving the three gems. "I'm gonna go ahead and take these back to my smithy, unless you'd rather have them instead."

To put it shortly, Kalvar was quite awestruck. Before he had knew it, the fight was over completely. The beast slain. Almost solely by Julius. If he wasn't there, he was certain the knight of Hyrule still could have beaten it... Especially since he pulled out a, well, a fire boomerang. Once it was thrown, it was like the battle was over instantly. With just a few quick motions, the plant monster seemed to shrivel up and perish before his very eyes.

If this was what it was like to be trained as a Knight of Hyrule, he couldn't fathom how anyone ever was able to topple them in battle. He certainly had never seen anyone as skilled in combat as Julius.

Kalvar took a deep breath, slowly lowering his bow towards the ground. His hands were actually twitching slightly in nerves. This was the strangest day of his life, and he just hoped there wasn't going to be anything bigger than that. If the entire tree came alive and attacked them, he would have absolutely no idea what to do. Hopefully nothing else was going to strike. He had just about enough of giant plant monsters for the day.

Suddenly, Julius spoke. His head tilted over towards his direction as he motioned towards a small treasure hoard up ahead. Check it out? Was he... offering it to him? His question was answered when he even offered the gems from earlier. Kalvar was quick to nod his head. Why would he turn that down? "Of course. I'll take them, thank you. "

Slipping the gems into his hands, he carefully examined them in his hands. Clearly these had to be Wind Gems, right? What else would make that boomerang act the way it did? Without a second thought, he hurried over towards the little hoard of treasure. Hopefully it would be some rupees so that he could afford a few niceties for once. A life on the road made comforts a little scarce.

However, barely saw any rupees. It looked like the little collection was just a bunch of various materials and things collected over time. The only thing that seemed even remotely of value at first glance was these strange translucent gems. Maybe there was a point to this little collection of scraps? Some pieces of Everwood which he was able to recognize, large strips of rather rough leather, and bits of Glow Iron. Perhaps...

Wait. Didn't Julius say he was a bit of a smith when they first met? His disappointment turned into excitement at the thought.

Quickly looking over his shoulder he smiled over at Julius. "Hey, quick question. You know how to make bows?"

"Well, I've made worse things for people who didn't need it. Why? Want me to make you one?"

Pretty quickly, he saw why he had asked that question. There was a surplus of materials here! Everything from Everwood, to what looked like Soul Stones. A shame there was only a couple, or else he could make something truly exquisite. "Oh! Well, sure. Everything here should be able to make a fine bow. Now, just sit back while I do all the work..." With that, he set up shop in the dungeon. With a quick twist of the Everwood, and some pressure, most of the work was already done. Now, for the insertion of the gems...

Unfortunately, the gems didn't -- or couldn't -- get inserted correctly. Every time he tried they... just seemed to sort of blend in with the bow itself. Almost like it was camouflaging itself. Then, he realized something. If the gems seemed to have a consciousness of their own, perhaps the Soul Stones could do something more? Figuring he'd try that, he quickly ground them up in a mortar and pestle he kept in his Adventure Pouch. Now, sprinkle this over it... and bam!

"Oh! Is this a more physical form I feel? Hm... It feels as if I am in the shape of a bow. Ooh, what remarkable craftsmanship! My, I quite like the feel of this body..." It spoke, soon being able to hear and see in all directions around itself. Telepathically, it reached out to Julius, "What is it that you wish from the Fairy of Winds... Creator of this form?"

"Well, I don't really own you-- at least, not ultimately. You really belong to Kalvar, who is standing over yonder," he spoke finally finishing the bow's body. With somewhat of a smirk, he affixed the two pieces of Glow Iron to the bow's top and bottom arcs. Now all he needed was a string. "Kalvar, bow's finished. Needs a string, but I reckon you're a good enough bowman to do that yourself, yeah?"

Kalvar awaited anxiously as Julius started to construct a new bow. Admittedly, his own bow was a few years old, but it had served him well. Holding his own bow in his hands, the memories practically flashed back. Of course, it would be absolutely nothing compared to the new bow made of Everwood. Even still, Kalvar would make sure his old bow found a new home. No sense in tossing aside a perfectly good weapon, even if it was a little old.

As his new bow spoke, not only did his mouth dropped, but so did his old bow. What? It could talk? He took a few steps closer completely forgetting about his old bow for the moment. Was it those strange gems? Was Julius just that good at making weaponry? Honestly he didn't have a single clue. Eyes wide in awe, he quickly stripped the bowstring off of his old bow as Julius spoke. He'd definitely splurge and get a nice new bowstring in the next town he visited.

Kalvar practically trembled with excitement. He had expected mostly just a powerful, nearly undestroyable bow, but this was definitely much, much cooler. Stepping forwards, he carefully reached forwards to grab the bow in his hands. It didn't feel like some powerful bow, but the leather was great to hold on to. Before he could even start to string the bow, it spoke to him out loud.

"Greetings, Master Kalvar. I am the Fairy of Winds. It is a pleasure to be allowed to aid you." God, that was definitely going to take a while to get used to. Of course, he doubted it was an actual fairy. There was no way an actual fairy was in this, right? Either way, it didn't really matter. He wasn't going to argue with it. Slowly, he finally strung the bow.

Nodding his head over at Julius, he smiled softly. "Thank you. This is... Well, it was a real honor to fight by your side. Are all Knights of Hyrule that skilled with a blade?"

"It comes with decades of strenuous practice. But, when you've been in the Guard for as long as I have, there comes a certain... clarity, if you will, of action." Goddesses, I'm getting so old. He thought to himself, thinking that he would hit his seventies before he knew it. His seventies. Goddesses, why was he getting so old?

And, with that, he began to pack up. He didn't want anyone particularly unwilling to come with him, so he merely examined the condition his blade was in, silently promising to mend it well when he got back. "Well, if that will be all, then I must return to whence I came. A pleasure meeting you, and good luck with your apparent "Fairy of the Winds", as they would say. I bid you adieu," he said, as he drew his Hookshot and aimed it up towards the ceiling. "Come to the Lanayru Province, specifically Castle Town, and ask to see Julius Surgate,. I'm sure they won't lead you astray." He was more than confident that Kalvar wouldn't fall for many tricks along the way... Mostly.

With that, he fired his Hookshot, and started springing up towards the ledge. He would likely go through a different path than how he got here-- after all, when you cut down even a fraction of Ganon's minions, you can be certain that they will spring back up, par for course.

Kalvar couldn't help but chuckle as he suddenly shot away upwards. Guess walking out of here together wasn't an option huh? All in all, he wasn't too worried. After all, an actual Knight of Hyrule invited him to Castle Town! Things couldn't possibly get better. A smile on his face and a kick in his step, he began to walk.

"Master. May I ask where we are heading?" The soft voice spoke inside his head. At first he jumped a bit, but quickly calmed himself down. Telepathic sentient bow? Sweet. He slowly hung the bow over his back before he started to walk faster. Time to get out of this place. Without a hookshot, he'd find another way out. There always was one.

"Honestly? To Castle Town preferably, but that is quite a long walk. I'd make it there eventually... But there is no shame in making a few stops along the way."

The 'fairy' seemed to pause a bit before it spoke once more. "I imagine Castle Town to be both a Castle, and a Town. Correct?"

He laughed so loud he was sure Julius could probably still hear him, looking over his shoulder at the bow to speak. "You have a lot to learn, don't you? You would be correct in that assumption, yes."

It hastily replied, "I have only gained consciousness nigh over five minutes ago. There is a lot I have not learned. Although, I do not feel upset. It is the start of an adventure. Going everywhere and seeing new things... It sounds exciting, to say the least. Do you travel a lot?"

Kalvar just smirked to himself as he turned around, finally finding a ledge low enough for him to climb up. "I often go where the winds take me. If I had rushed to Castle Town I never would have found you, never met Julius, and never gone on so many adventures. I've been all over."

"Going where the winds take you... Now what Fairy of the Wind would I be if I didn't enjoy the sound of that?" It seemed to mentally chuckle in Kalvars head, and all he could do was smile.

What a delight this was to read! However, if you know me very well you should expect me to nitpick. First off, a Skulltula is an arachnid, not an insect. Eight legs, two body segments, eight eyes. Gohma have one eye so I usually call them arachnoids (oid being a false or mimicry suffix.) Also remember that "its" is possessive and "it's" is always a contraction of "it is."

Now I'm impressed by your coordinated combat, and I'm glad the thread wasn't too one-sided with Julius around. But that poor baboon couldn't even make it to the boss fight because he was full of holes. Now I've gone through this carefully and I can assure no canon was messed with. Though that thing about deku creatures all being related was just Julius' own speculation. Now make absolutely sure you have the rupee amounts accounted for. I know this thread is very old so Magnere should be certain he has those 30 rupees mentioned in his own inventory. Without further ado, this Dungeon is Approved. :i:
