Loft shrieked with laughter as Slink caught fire. "Yes," he crowed, his voice rising to a manic scream "yes! Burn, burn, burn!" He giggled delightedly and did a little dance, watching gleefully as Slink tried desperately to put out the fire. His leg didn't seem to want to move- was he stuck? Loft's smile grew as Slink fault to stand; he was stuck!

An idea came to him then. His playmate had learned to shield his eyes when Loft used Deku Nuts. Loft could play with that, oh yes he could. He began to throw Deku Nut after Deku Nut, creating a barrage of flashes that would leave Slink either cowering or completely blinded. He stepped forward and sent another plume of flame towards his playmate, throwing down one last Deku Nut to follow it.

Slink saw Loft throwing something down at the ground, and shielded his eyes. In case of more fire, he threw himself to the side. Bang bang bang, doing nothing to Slink. And then more fire? That's what it seemed like, as something very hot that made fire-like sounds came and went past his legs. At least his very badly burned leg had been extinguished. This was his chance. He propped himself on his left arm and used his right arm to throw his knife at Loft. Then another bang, and Slink was blind again.

The dodge came too late; Loft's side burned as cold steel sliced into it, leaving a stream of blood flowing down his body. Through the pain, he realized that Slink had just been stunned by that last Deku Nut. He quickly pulled out his last throwing knife, took aim, and hurled it at his downed playmate's body. In his rage, he followed that up by thrusting the Red Candle's golden base forward three times, and in his anger each went at a slightly different angle. "Die already!"

The knife made a direct hit on Slink, right in his right hand. Not only did it hit his hand, but it went through it into the ground below. Slink screamed and cursed, but that only fed the audience around him, whose cheers grew. Slink desperately tried to pull out the knife with his free hand, but he had trouble getting a grip with three fingers.

"Die already!" arose from the crowds, and Slink ducked his head. He screamed in fear of death as the fireballs flew right over his head, maybe singing a few hairs at the back of his head. Finally, Slink tried to dislodge the knife and was met with success. Slink stood up, but he was in poor condition. With his leg and now his hand, he leaned far to the right side, but he could still stand mostly alright.

Slink took hold of his sword in his right hand, adrenaline somehow allowing him to wield it despite the gap in his grasp. Blood poured down his handle and rage flowed through the blade. It's opposite, his opponent's own dagger, was clutched in his right hand. Blood flowed through the blade and rage poured down the handle, and with these two weapons he felt strangely empowered. As if the goddesses himself were lifting him, revitalizing all of his wounds and sores, Slink rose. It didn't matter how long it lasted or what it exactly was, all he could focus on was finishing the fight.

"THIS ENDS NOW!" Slink's words shot at his opponent like arrows, and Slink charged at Loft. There was a slight limp in his right leg, from the wounds, but he wasn't bothered by any of it. He was about to use the rage and blood giving him energy to deliver the same thing to his opponent. Although it would be death.

Bad Slink! Taking Loft's throwing knife, how horrible of him! That was just rude, and stealing one of Loft's friends was unforgivable. Loft saw him stand, his hair singed, his leg brutally burned, blood pouring down his right hand, and realized something. Loft had already won this. Slink couldn't go on like this, not for long. Loft himself was wounded, but a slice to the side wasn't fatal, and his body was fresh, unlike Slink's. His mind was tired, but his body would be able to press on long after Slink's had collapsed. He didn't have to deliver any sort of blow; all he needed to do was survive. And surviving was something that Loft excelled in.

Loft saw Slink begin to charge forward, weapons aloft, and he sent one last plume of flame at him. He tucked the golden candle base away and felt his whole body speed up to superhuman speeds. Now that his hands were free, his jealous Bunny Hood was willing to work its magic on his body. He darted back, laughing. A quick glance told him that he had reached the edge of the Arena, and the heat from the fires at his back confirmed that he was standing on the brink of a raging inferno. That same glance told him that he was safe from the fires itself (he wouldn't be turning into a fire-Loft anytime soon), but one more step back would send him falling into the flaming pit below.

Slink flew to the side and avoided the fireball, but it was very close. Slink turned around, a tree! A plan began to brew, and he ripped a branch off. He went over to the fire pit, and leaned the edge of the leaf-filled stick into the pit. The branch was in flames, and Slink charged to the other side of the field. There was Loft, standing there and waiting for him. Slink threw the stick, but not directly at Loft, to his left. The fire hit the ground, setting the grass to the side ablaze. That left him with only a narrow space to go: the place where Slink charged.

The grass in the Arena was short, and the fire's fuel wasn't enough to make it reach super high into the sky. Loft skipped over the flames, turned, and stuck his tongue out at Slink, pulling down an eyelid as he waggled his fleshy red taster. This was fun! His Bunny Hood made it easy to out-run his playmate, and it was only a matter of time before Slink collapsed. Victory was so close, he could almost taste it in the air! Though that may just be the stench of burning wood.

"How's the hand?" The taunt passed through lips that were stretched in a cheeky grin. "Feeling alright?"

"I've been worse." Slink gloated. This was a lie, but he couldn't let Loft see him as weak. To show as little weakness as possible, Slink kneeled and made sure that Loft could see him. Slink began to remove the bandage on his finger and tie it around his hand, to make the bleeding stop.

Loft hummed as he watched, the low grass-fire slowly spreading. There was a lot of fire here, he noted. First the tree, then the spike pit, and now the grass? He felt proud- everything that could be burned had been burned. Even Slink!

"You're going to stop blood with a bloody bandage?" Loft crinkled his nose. "Wouldn't that just make the blood party harder?" His side stabbed at him horribly, but he did his best to ignore it. He could treat it later; he didn't want to let up his guard for a single second. Slink was tricksy- not so much as him, but Loft still didn't want to take his eyes off him.

"I'm not a doctor, so I'm just doing what I can." Slink's body was hurting everywhere, and he didn't know how much longer he could last. He needed some way to get at Loft... He thought as he wrapped his hand, and thought of one plan that had two outcomes. One was dangerous for him, but had more chance for success. He just decided to do it, so he poined at the mob behind Loft and asked:

"Hey, are those your parents in the crowd?"

Loft puffed out his chest. "Well," he said pompously, "my friend Marcus is a Healer, and he says that- that wrapping blood with blood just makes things een-fect-ed. So there." He nodded forcefully on the last bit.

Loft's shoulders sagged at Slink's next words. He picked at his sleeve forlornly, his eyes downcast. "No," he said heavily, "don't got no parents. Mommy go poof and Daddy- Daddy made like that tree." He lifted his gaze and jerked his chin at the tree which he had set on fire near the beginning of the fight. The flames were dying now, the fuel that kept them burning all but spent.

"I'll figure the bandage thing out later. It's not my biggest concern. As for your parents, I'm sorry." Slink rose, and he felt much better about his hand. The pain still lasted, and it hurt to grip his sword, but at least the bleeding mostly stopped. This had to be the last stand for one of them, for one of them wasn't going to walk out of here alive. And Slink didn't plan on it being him.

With most of his weight on his left leg, but still walking with both, he slowly made his advance at Loft. Every step oozed with confidence, but he kept a very close eye on Loft. "And when I say 'sorry', I mean 'sorry that they don't get to watch me kill you.'" Slink sneaked a small grin that almost seemed evil.

Loft frowned. "Slink," he whined, "you're supposed to be the Good Guy here! Stop creeping on my territory!" His playmate was moving very slowly towards him, and Loft found it very easy to keep the distance constant. He pressed a hand against his side, pushing hard against the cut to try and make the pain shrink. It sorta worked, but not really. He'd have to get Marcus to patch him up later, if the Arena Lord decided to be mean and not heal him.

"How's the leg? Must itch pretty badly." Just gotta outlast him, Loft reminded himself. Keep moving, and whatever the super-ninja did, he had to make sure not to let Slink get close. That sword was really sharp!

Slink wondered why Loft was not shooting any fire. Maybe he was trying to tire him out? At least that beat fire. Well fine, we'll play that game. "Yeah, it does itch." Slink sat down, and the whole time his leg burned with pain, making him grimace. "If you aren't going to be a mean bad guy, you'll let me take some time to rub it and make it feel better."

Loft nodded, watching as Slink sat down. This was wrong, this was all wrong, but Loft had a way to make it better. Silly Slink- Loft was the Bad Guy! It was his job to be mean! As Slink lowered himself to the ground, grimacing, Loft casually reached for his Deku Nut-maker and pulled out a flasher. He waited for his playmate to be nice and settled in before making his move. With a small flick of his wrist, he threw the Deku Nut down to the ground.

Another flash came down, but Slink stayed strong, for the sake of intimidation. He flinched as little as he could allow himself to, and kept his composure. He simply continued to rub his leg and waited for his sight to be mostly back, which seemed to come back faster than he thought.

The Deku Nut slammed against the ground, and through his closed eyelids, Loft could see the bright white flash of the explosive seed-thing. He opened his eyes to see his opponent blinded; his plan was working perfectly! He immediately dashed forward, his body powered by the speed of the Bunny Hood, and dove onto the ground. His playmate had been simply rubbing his leg, and now Loft had the perfect opportunity to strike! His foot lashed out, aiming for the badly burned appendage, and his hand reached forward to wrench the sword from Slink's hopefully lax grip.

Slink had closed his eyes and let his other sensed take over. His Hylian ears worked to tune out the roaring crowd, and focused on Loft. There was running, getting closer... closer... He heard Loft leave the ground. Slink waited for a beat. Now! Slink took hold of the sword and made a horizontal swing in front of him, before Loft could come in contact with his injured leg.

Loft screamed as the cold steel bit into his leg. Bunny Hood ears flopping madly, his hand flew with inhuman speeds toward his belt, wrenching out his last dagger and plunging it towards Slink's chest as his playmate's sword continued to pass through the air above his head. "Die!"

Slink kept his eyes closed, so feel his opponents moves. Time seemed to stop as he observed, but it didn't. He was on top of him, driving his arm toward his chest. There had to have been a last knife in his grip, or else it would be useless. His sword was helplessly above Loft in the air, although he felt a hit with his initial swing. Slink could only think of one thing to do, and somehow he felt as if he always knew that this would be the result.

He wasn't scared at all, and he almost welcomed the idea like an old friend. As a soldier would throw a javelin, Slink bent his left arm and shot it upwards. His knife that he held firmly with four fingers went right past Loft's and continued toward his target's neck.
