Shepard’s Sling – 2' – Materials: Hemp Fiber Braid – Hard Leather Pouch – Linen Wrapped Retention Cord – Double Loop Knot (Iron Weight Core) Release Cord

One of the more inconspicuous weapons in existence, the Shepard’s Sling is perfect for Bepu. Preferring not to be near any sort of threat to his health, the Sling is an effective way for Bepu to utilize his considerable arsenal of seeds. Designed to throw rocks, bullets, and seeds, Bepu combines his seeds with this ranged weapon to wreak havoc, should the event arise where he is required to fight. His sling is composed of sturdy a Hemp Fiber. Inelastic, Hemp Fiber makes an impressive construction material for slings, especially because it resists rotting.

At the center of the braid is a hard leather pouch, that contains a small inlet where a projectile can be held. Once said projectile is placed within this pocket, the braid is doubled onto itself, the handler slipping their fingers through the loop at the end of the Retention Cord, and holding onto the end of the Release Cord. In this case, the Release Cord is weighted by a bright quartz stone, approximately an inch in diameter. The user of the sling then swings the sling in circles, building momentum for the time when the projectile is to be released. When it is time for the object to be released, the sling is swung and with a flick of the wrist the pouch is pulled away at the precise moment. The stone, or other small object, flies tangent to the circle made by the pouch's rotation. Ranges of up to 400 meters can be achieved, which is rivaled only by a longbow capable of draw weights of over 150 pounds of force.

When his is not being used as a weapon, the hemp sling is wrapped around his waist, just above his belt, Bepu threading the quartz stone of the release cord through the finger holes of the retention cord. This helps conceals its function as a weapon, making it appear to be only another accessory. However, should the need arise, the sling can be removed from his waist with ease, Bepu only needing to pull the release cord. Finally, should an enemy come too close to Bepu, the sling can be used as a whip-like weapon, the iron core on the release cord making an effective weighted end, capable of doing significant damage if enough momentum is built up.

    Clothing and Appearance:

Bepu is short, standing at several inches short of two feet. His general build is slightly more round, as compared to the rest of his kin, though not significantly so. His general coloration is a light green with splotches of a green-brown mix. The leaf that covers his face is symmetrical with three main bodies with three tips, all pointing up, with two points jutting out and centered around the central portion, a shape not unlike that of a trident. Atypical for Koroks, Bepu has smaller leaves on other parts of his body, most notably extending from his forehead to his back. A shaggy collection of leaves, they form a jagged, dark green mohawk, a shade they share with his face leaf.

Due to his profession, Bepu wears clothing, unlike other Koroks. Most notably are his running goggles, with glass lenses and leather straps, that sit just above his eyes until he lowers them. He also wears a dark brown vest, that his several pockets on both the outside and inner lining. Though short, Bepu is fairly stout, largely from his work. With this strength, he carries a comparatively large basket strapped to his back, not unlike the pack of a mailman. This multi-tiered basked is composed of wicker, and is lined with treated leather, providing him a water resistant package within which he keeps his delivery in one section, and botany tools in the others. It also has a large bladder of water in the bottom tier, both to slake his thirst, and that of any plants he finds so in need. Lastly, he wears a leather belt around his waist, to which several pouches are lopped onto; these contain his seeds, and other things he likes to keep on hand.

Bepu carries few weapons on him, save for the seeds he has grown, and placed at his side. He does have a sling he uses with relative proficiency, both with sling bullets and seeds. He is more suited for long and mid-range combat, than close, as he has little training in martial skills, though he understand the basics.

    Personality:

Bepu is brash, fool-hardy, and too often the first into a fray, usually giving little thought to the consequences of his actions. He is loud, and some find him to be obnoxious. Yet, despite his short comings, he is both courageous and kind. His impulsiveness stems from his general impatience, a trait that led to his departure from the Kokiri Forest, and the Great Deku Tree, in the first place. Possessed of a great wanderlust, it is no surprise that he doesn't call one specific place home, though he did find the Goron sector of Castle Town to be simultaneously intriguing and inspiring.

While prone to flying off on wild hairs, Bepu does take his duties seriously, though they are generally within keeping of his personality. His first, being his duty to the Great Deku Tree to both spread, and maintain the flora of Hyrule, generally feeds both his wanderlust, and his genuine care for plants. While not particularly boastful of his talents, he is fairly accomplished as a botanist, and he is not shy to use his experience and knowledge on the subject. He does not take well to those that would mean harm to plant life, or really any well-meaning life form, nor does he approve of those who look down on his profession. He knows better than most what plants are capable of, being one himself.

The second duty that he is surprisingly attached to is his work as a Sandwich Delivery Man. While it certainly is not glorious, he does take pride in it, despite some of his complaints. It is a calling to which he truly has a passion, allowing him to travel to new places, and make new acquaintances. The name of his profession is deceptive, however, concealing its true nature as a courier of information across Hyrule, though half the time he might actually by delivering just a sandwich. His small stature, tendency to travel alone, and general appearance of harmlessness and poverty let him avoid the more dangerous aspects of travel, such as armed robbery, or those targeting couriers of the effort against the dark forces still in Hyrule.

    Backstory:

    Birth of a Sandwich Man:

Before many of the Gorons from Hyrule Castle Town had left, a rather curious Korok had found himself in their midst, a strange bushy creature standing around with those that seemed made of stone. The Korok had only meant to pass through, heading further north to spread some seeds, as per the Great One's orders. The earthbound Korok, for he had no Deku Leaf with which to fly, nor the ability, had been strolling through the city when he had heard loud cheering. There, standing amongst the crowd, he saw the most wondrous thing.

Bepu bore witness to the second annual Goron Roller Derby. He watched on with wide eyes, as the gorons rolled about on the muddy track, sending earth flying in every direction. Oh to run so fast, with wind beneath my feet. Bepu pined. When the event ended, he was left in awe, sitting in the stands and staring up at the sky. He looked down at this stubby feet and cursed them; how could he ever achieve such speed?

So began his quest in search for a way he could achieve such speed. He'd heard tales before, of magical boots that gave one great speed, and of a bunny hood that seemed to make time move faster for the bearer, but none of these were to be found in Castle Town. Finally, he found himself before a great stall of seeds in the bazaar: blues and reds and greens, like pastel colors waiting for an artistic hand.

As a Korok he'd been exposed to some seeds, the pouches at his sides were proof of that, but some of these he had never encountered before. His eyes were drawn to a green group like a magnet, seeds taking the shape of a wing. He knew, then, that he'd found what he had sought. The rest is history: stories of a brown blur running around the city began to arise, and it wasn't long before Bepu found himself in the employ of a sandwich shop, and next as a part of the military's courier system. So began the tale of a Sandwich Delivery Man.

Since Specialty can no longer be taken in Seed, swapping that out for Bonus Treasure. Taking Feather Fall.
