Arifa, the Great Fairy of Guidance
    Age: Unknown.
    Gender: Female.
    Race: Great Fairy.
    Power: *
    Wisdom: *****
    Courage: ****
    Class: Supportive Mage.
    Alignment: Lawful Good.

    Home
Arifa was created in the Lost Woods, and for decades, inhabited it as its resident Great Fairy. Currently, however, she travels Hyrule and has no real home base.

    Magic
    - Fairy Magic: As a Great Fairy, Arifa is particularly gifted when it comes to magic that protects rather than hurts, as well as utility magic. However, she is extremely vulnerable to Shadow or evil magic.
    - Hover: While her wings are normally largely useless, Arifa can infuse them with her Fairy Magic in order to hover a short distance above the ground.
    - Fairy Fountain: Derivative of her immense restorative powers, Arifa can turn any body of water into a temporary Fairy Fountain, bestowing the water with healing properties as long as she is near it.
    - Fairy Tears: As a Great Fairy, it was always Arifas task to heal the wounds of travelers. She still has the power to do this, but without the support of her fountain, doing this renders her comatose for hours on end.
    - Light: Arifa can conjure up a small ball of bright light, which can illuminate an entire room at its brightest and a few square feet at its dimmest. Arifa has full control over the brightness.
    - Gale Aura: By focusing her magic around her, Arifa can momentarily protect herself by conjuring up strong winds. They do not last long, but if well-timed, are powerful enough to bring projectiles off-course and force melee foes back.
    - Communal Feather Fall: Arifa can break not only her own falls, but those of others within her view as well. This is a foolproof on her part, in case a Hover goes astray.

    Instincts
    - Language of Flora: In the Lost Woods, Arifa learnt the language of the forest, and she is capable of fluently communicating with trees, bushes, flowers, grasses, and other forms of plant life.
    - Language of Fauna: Although not as fluently as with flora, Arifa can also communicate on a telepathic level with mammals, reptilians, insects, birds, and other kinds of animals.

    Appearance:
Obvious differences aside, Arifa closely resembles a particularly elegant Hylian woman in her mid-twenties. She’s tall, slimly built, and sports a fair skin and large, pointed ears. Her eyes are green in colour, befitting a Forest Fairy. Arifa has very long hair, easily reaching her legs, tied in a low ponytail. Its blonde colour is far brighter than natural, and can be startling. More startling, however, are the long, white feelers that protrude from it near the top of her head. She claims they are magic-related appendages, but in truth she has no idea what they are for. Additionally, she has a pair of large, semi-trasparent orange-ish yellow butterfly wings on her back. They aren’t strong enough to let her fly, but by infusing them with her Fairy Magic she can use them to hover a few feet above the ground for a short while.

Arifa dresses in the green reminiscent of her home in the Lost Woods. Her attire consists of a slim-fit, pastel green dress. The skirt is ankle-length and flowing around the back and sides, but in the front only reaches about halfway her upper legs. Under it, she wears sea-green stockings with a vine pattern, and ankle-height boots. Her detached sleeves, spanning from two thirds up her upper arm to her wrist, have the same colour and are semi-see-through.

Normally, though, Arifa hides this entire attire under a thick, brown, hooded mantle, so as not to startle anyone.

    Personality:
“Welcome, traveler. I am the Great Fairy of Guidance.”
Arifa is a very soft-spoken and gentle Fairy, both created and conditioned to put the interests of others above her own. As a Great Fairy specialized in supporting others, she has a lot of faith in the lesser races of Hyrule and their ability to turn their lives and fates around on a whim; especially with just a little help from magic as powerful as hers. Her magic is the one thing about herself that Arifa has more pride and confidence in than her skill may warrant.

While versed in the way and language of the Forest, Arifa is unfamiliar with human society. She has only very recently learnt the importance of money, and is in search of a steady source of income that can fund her search for a hero. However, that search is much more important to her than any amount of rupees could ever be. In her desire to find one, she is naïve in her trust in humans, although she never forgets that she cannot reveal her identity unless she truly trusts one.

Arifa is largely, but not entirely, incapable of hate. She holds a special brand of disgust for Wizzrobes, and while she can forgive most transgressions easily, certain acts of immorality earn her mistrust, anger, and in severe cases, her wrath. More than anything else, Arifa lives up to her title and serves as a moral compass to those she allies herself with, whether permanently or temporarily, as well as sharing her great wisdom with them.

    History:
Arifa was brought into existence by the Great Fairy of the Lost Woods in her dying days. As a Tiny Fairy, she had neither a name nor any ambition to become a Great Fairy herself one day; however, when the time came for her mother to pass on, she was the only Fairy present with enough magic power to qualify for the position, as the Lost Woods did need their Great Fairy. Her mother passed on her magic and her name and title to Arifa, who was immediately accepted by the other fairies as though nothing had changed.

For years, Arifa fulfilled her task as Great Fairy without complaining or desiring more. She never did learn to create more Tiny Fairies herself, and as she sacrificed her former kin to save mortally wounded travellers, she grew lonely and reckless. Arifa would leave her fountain for days on an end, wandering the Lost Woods and learning the language of the forest. Soon, she was conversing with ancient oaks and young birches, learning about what happened both inside and outside the forest as the trees caught information from travellers.

A great evil conquering half of Hyrule and threatening the other half, in the present day. The Lost Woods were safe for now, but there was no telling for how long. Legends and myths of great heroes demolishing evil, and the tale of one such hero named Link, who had ventured into Ganon’s lair and never come out.

Returning to her fountain at night, Arifa found herself pondering the fate of Hyrule, and not just of the Lost Woods. Slowly but surely the conviction grew within her that a new hero had to be found, that Hyrule couldn’t rely on Link to emerge victorious after years of silence. A new hero was needed, and if no one else did it, SHE would do it. She was a Great Fairy- her magic was meant to be used in support of others. In fact, her title –Great Fairy of Guidance- implied that she should by all means get out of this fountain and into the world to guide something. Why not a hero, she figured?

With that thought, she procured a thick, heavy mantle from a traveller in exchange for a cast from her Fairy Tears spell- an unusual display of selfishness, but the traveller agreed after learning that the spell would render her comatose and felt guilty about leaving her without doing SOMETHING in return. Using this mantle to cover her Fairy physiology, she left her fountain in the hands of the remaining Tiny Fairies, instructing them to heal the wounds of any traveller that found them as usual, and left the forest. She found refuge in Hyrule Castle Town, where she started investigating the Knights of Hyrule to see if there was any hero material amongst them.

In Hyrule Castle Town, however, something happened that could very well have cut her adventure, as well as her life as a Great Fairy, short. By an unknown cause, as she crossed the plaza in the middle of the night, she was struck by something she couldn’t see before she was split into a dozen Stray Fairies. Most of her managed to stick together, but one of the Stray Fairies was knocked off-course by the spell and lost. The other eleven hid in the plaza’s fountain, unable to come up with a plan to find the other one.

Fortunately, it was not too long after she was split up that the missing Stray Fairy was found by a generous young Hylian, who sacrificed his search for a lost friend in order to reunite it with the others. With Arifa’s consciousness now complete, she repaid the boy’s kindness by picking up the white, fuzzy rabbit that happened to be pattering around her temporary fountain and giving it back to him, sensing that they belonged together. Sending the boy on his way, she resolved to not drop her guard again and set back out to find her hero.

She briefly interrupted her search and became someone else’s hero when she stumbled across a circus and freakshow in Northern Hyrule, where a pile of compost alerted her that there was a Twili child kept prisoner as their star attraction. Not knowing his nature or his story, Arifa nonetheless realised that he was miserable and severely mistreated, and did everything she could to help him escape- with success. Having felt helpless and thinking an extra pair of eyes and hands would greatly help her on her search, she then returned to the Lost Woods in hopes of finding a Tiny Fairy in her Fountain to take along with her. However, she had to be escorted by Julius Surgate as the Lost Woods showed signs of being infiltrated by shadowy creatures not unlike Fion himself. So she has chosen to reside in the forest for a little while longer, at least until she can figure out what's going on and put a stop to it.

For logistics reasons, I am posting a link to where the racial license was purchased, in the marketplace. (http://forums.hyrulecastle.org/index.php?threads/solo-stray-fairies-in-the-plaza-fountain.2266/)
For logistics reasons, please link to this thread somewhere in future Fairy characters (And do so for other License requiring races, too, please). That will make grading these in the future far easier.

This seems fine to me, but I'd like Guy's opnion before fully accepting this, seeing as this is the first elite race character.

Arifa seems particularly worthy of being a Great Fairy. I'm glad HC's first character of an elite race is so fitting.
