“Acting is the greatest deception. It takes a little glamor and misdirection, a bit of magic here and there, and a pinch of luck. If fortune smiles upon you, then truths and lies become indistinguishable.”

    Name: Lyon
Current Day Persona: The Jester, Kaiden Umbridge, Current Night
    Persona: The Hunger, Sethra Voltain,
True Name: The Deceiver, Uther Heklrose

    Race: Northern Hylian
    Class: Magewrite
    Age: 28
    Mid-Twenties
    Gender: Male
Place of Origin: Hyrule Castle Town Where is home?
    Alignment: Chaotic Evil
    Statistics/PWC:
    2/4/3
    Power **
    Wisdom ****
    Courage ***
    Height:
    5'10”
    Weight: 150 lbs.
    Instrument: Hurdy Gurdy
    Profession: Actor/Spy
    Equipment:
Weapons: Witfang (Sabre), Subtlety (Main Gauche)

Witfang: Steel Sabre (Shashka Design) – Length: 3'6”, Double Fuller, Weight: 0.9 kg – Materials: Tempered Steel, Wisteria Wood Handle, Deer Leather Grip – Wisteria Wood Scabbard, Mother of Pearl and Silver Ornamentation – Sword Belt: Fine Chain Link Strap, Cotton Cloth Covering, Brass Buckle

Witfang is Uther's main weapon, with which he has become moderately proficient. A Shashka in design, a type of sabre, Witfang lacks any guard, but has a large, curved pommel. The Shashka is a one handed sword, a cross between a true sabre and a straight sword, and is only single-bladed; it has a very slight curve, making it a weapon intended for slashing and thrusting. Witfang has a fuller (commonly known as blood channels) on each side, running from a third down the blade to the two thirds mark; this greatly reduces its weight, without sacrificing much of its structural integrity. Ancient Hylian knots (read “Celtic Knots”) are etched into these fullers, the fine craftsmanship apparent. The blade itself is highly polished steel, almost white in color. The pommel curves up towards the blade, curled into a ball with a slight spiral carved into the wood. A knot in the wood lays at the center of the ball. The wood of the handle is well polished, contrasting the dull, pitch black of the well-used grip. Silver bands circle the top of the handle, and are kept in pristine condition; a sign of true care for his weapon.

The scabbard is made almost entirely of wood, excepting the ornamentation and bands. The wood itself is the same as that which composes the handle of the sword; however, it is stained darker, making the grain much more apparent. It is also well oiled, and lacquered, giving it an incredible shine. In bright sunlight, it appears almost black, but changes to a rich brown in less intense light. The mother of pearl and silver designs have been placed into the wood, their slots carved out with precision. The silver is wrought into vines and stems with fine detail, while the mother of pearl is worked into small leaves attached to the silver vines. Near the entrance to the scabbard are three silver bands, the center of them having a small hook and chain, which is used to attach the scabbard to his sword belt. Due to its rather valuable appearance, Uther tends to keep the scabbard entirely hidden from view; his method of concealment changes on whichever persona he happens to be assuming.

Subtlety: Black Steel Dagger (Main Gauche) – Length: 1'4”, Single Fuller, Weight: 0.3 kg – Materials: Unpolished Black Steel, Keese Leather Grip – Brass Loop Sheath

Subtlety is a rather unassuming weapon, as opposed to Uther's sabre. Unlike Witfang, Subtlety is never concealed completely; it hangs, sheathed in a simple brass loop, the majority of its blade bared. The brass is dull and dark, never receiving care from Uther's hands. This is purposeful, concealing the shine of the metal. Likewise, the blade of Subtlety is unpolished black steel, making it a dull, midnight black in appearance. Although this dagger can be seen in broad daylight, it is small and unassuming; many assume that its a simple dagger, meant for self-defense. However, Subtlety, because of its dark color, lack of shine, and length, make it an excellent assassination weapon. Though Uther's profession usually does not call upon assassination, sometimes it is necessary for him to quietly knife a target from the shadows. A black cotton cloth is placed between his hip and his sword belt, just above where his dagger, as well as Witfang when it is hooked to his sword belt, are located. This is mainly used for cleaning the blood from Subtlety's blade.

    Clothing, Armor, and Appearance:

Because Uther, who normally refers to himself as “The Deceiver”, has multiple personalities that he uses, be it for his own psychological comfort or for other, more nefarious purposes, he has several different appearances. For the most part, his appearances are Hylian; these are the most easily fabricated personae, using very little make-up, and very little concentration when it comes to his “Actor's Illusion” spell. However, there are a few personae that are not of the same race, usually of a race that is physiologically similar to Hylians. Examples would include a Zora, or even a Gerudo. At other times, he uses the full extent of his knowledge when it comes to disguise, paired with a potent weave of the Actor's Illusion to pass himself off as other, more complex races, though never in broad daylight.

The Deciever, Uther Heklrose: Does my name matter?: Uther's most important persona, without surprise, is his own personality “The Deciever”, though sometimes it's hard for him to distinguish it as his own. His appearance, however, is key. Though he usually keeps his entire body hidden from view, wrapped in a voluminous, velvety cloak colored a royal purple, his truest features can be seen without his covering. His natural skin is an odd color, an unnatural bronze, bordering on golden. This is due to years of using dyes and minerals, which have permanently stained his skin. Likewise, his hair is a bone grey, from a great deal of powder. Naturally black, his hair retains much of the powder that he uses due to his wandering nature; always on the move, Uther has little time to take a bath and wash the coloring from his hair. The off-white strands are thin and fairly well kept most of the time, despite not being washed on a regular basis, and hang at about shoulder length. Being his most prominent feature, as having white hair at the age of twenty eight is rather strange, Uther tends to have his hair tied back into a pony-tail, then concealing his head, and the majority of his upper face, with the hood of his cloak.

Under the hood, Uther's eyes are a bright gray-blue, with a piercing kind of intensity, seeming ever alert, watching every move and twitch like a hawk on the hunt. Uther understands that knowledge is power, and the more knowledge one has, the weaker and more feeble your opponents will be. However, the strain on his eyes has taken its toll; he always seems to be half asleep, his eyes squinting naturally, giving him a sly appearance. Additionally, great shadows have appeared under his eyes, like the craters of the moon. Uther's nose is thin, short and angular, pointing down ever so slightly, and in many respects, Uther's natural appearance can be likened to that of a bird of prey. This is accented only by his too thin lips, an ugly pale gold, which seem to disappear entirely under the shadows of his gaunt face, and his high cheekbones, which leave deep hollows where his cheeks lay.

Beneath the cloak, Uther prefers to wear tight clothing, lashed to his body. He wears no armor, believing it hinders his movement and his ability to express himself through his entire body; an actor cannot wholly create characters without the use of their entire body. His build is slight but toned from his years of travel, keeping him fit and relatively agile. He wears a midnight black tunic and slacks, which are strapped tightly to his body with thin strips of white cloth, in a cross-section like manner. He also employs the use of many belts, where a strip of cloth could also be used; mainly, this is limited to the two belts that cross each other at the center of his chest, in an “x” formation. Pouches riddle the fronts of both of these belts, containing dyes, make-up, and other things pertaining to stagecraft. He also wears a pack around his back, which is thin, but wide and long, covering the majority of his back. It has one chamber, framed by metal rods, flax canvas forming the shell and hardened leather acting as the support. This is where he keeps his costumes. Due to his nature, changing from several different personae, many of these articles of clothing are reversible; for example, his purple cloak is reversible for an entirely black cloak. Articles of clothing included within this pack are:

One Reversible Blue and Green Cloak
One Reversible Gold and Blue Tunic
One Frilled Cream Colored Dress Shirt
One Pair of Etched Obsidian Cufflinks
    One Gold Headband
    One Blue Scarf
    One Red Scarf
One Pair of Brown Leather Gloves
    White Cotton Gloves

Also included are small tools for each of his different personae, usually used to convince an audience of that persona's given story or profession. Included items are:

    One Deck of Cards
    One Story Book
One Amulet, Bearing the Crest of Ganon
One Pair of Old Zora Fins

    The Jester, Kaiden Umbridge:
Clothing Items: Green Cloak, Gold Tunic, Gold Headband, Brown Gloves, Unstrapped Black Pants.

The Jester, otherwise known as Kaiden Umbridge, is Uther's most flamboyant personality; this is, obviously, to his tastes. Each of his persona were fabricated on certain principles, dealing with intelligence gathering. As is implicated by the name, Kaiden is a “natural born” performer, meant to draw crowds and impress the masses. With an impressive charisma, bolstered by his charming appearance, Kaiden is able to charm and impress people, in order to coerce information from them. He has the “golden tongue” so to speak, his words and voice never ceasing their forays into the secrets of others.

In order to change into this persona, Uther does several things, using a combination of a change of wardrobe, as well as a good deal of make-up. Uther tries to use the Actor's Illusion as little as possible when in this persona, due to his use of Handheld Illusion causing the Actor's Illusion to automatically break. Beginning with his clothes, Uther first unstraps his black slacks, letting them flow freely, then rolling them up to his knees. This reveals his fairly normal colored skin, the dyes that caused the gold-bronze color being applied mostly to his upper body, being the most visible area of his body. Uther uses a heavy layer of powder and light colored paste in order to match the skin color of his legs with the rest of his body, turning his skin an almost rosy peach color. He then pulls the Golden Tunic over his upper body, letting it wave about freely. He then dons his Green Cloak, Golden Headband, made of cotton, and Brown Leather Gloves, making sure to keep the hood down.

After several touches to his hair and face, the change is complete, revealing a man with smooth skin, rosy lips, piercing blue eyes with an almond, exotic shape. His hair is spiked up into the air, using a combination of animal fats and yellow dye, to give his gray colored hair a yellow tint, which appears to be a white blonde after his transformation. Kaiden's tool of choice is a deck of cards, with which he impresses many, using magic and a fair amount of dexterity.

    The Wizened, Ezra Ardolen:
    Clothing: Green Cloak, Blue Tunic

To many, Ezra Ardolen is the ideal picture of an Old Man, wise in his years; hence the name, The Wizened. Few pay any suspicion to an old man, and many others are too compassionate to refuse an old man's request; hence Uther's choice of this persona. Ezra Ardolen is useful in situations where meekness and subtlety would conquer, rather than charisma and boisterousness. Uther employs all his techniques to give him the appearance of having an advanced age, reserving no trade or magical skill in creating this persona.

Of all his personae, Ezra is most likely the closest in appearance to Uther's true personality. Ezra's features are mostly just his own, but older, and therefore less intimidating in appearance. In general, Uther uses makeup to add things such as liver spots and slight shadows to his face, while at the same time he uses the Actor's Illusion to add proper sag and wrinkles to his visage. This changes his normally hawk-like appearance to that of a friendly old man, whose eyes are sagging with age, but have surprising clarity. His nose droops ever so slightly and has flattened as well, while his lips have greater color. Finally, Ezra lightly powders his skin, changing the brass-gold color to a more healthy well-tanned color in appearance.

For his clothing, Ezra wears the same green cloak that Kaiden wears, as well as the same tunic that another persona wears. However, Uther sprinkles dirt, charcoal, and chalk on both, giving them an old, stained appearance. For the most part, Uther lets his appearance of age, both in his clothing and of his face and skin, project his image as The Wizened. To further augment this, however, he lashes his sword and scabbard tightly in cloth strips, leaving only the handle of the sword uncovered just in case, and uses it as a walking-stick. Additionally, he carries an old, leather bound journal, with old script written in it. Very few people can read the dead language, Uther being unable to do so himself; the book is only used as a prop for his act, nothing more.

    The Wanderer, Spindle Quickfin:
Clothing: Blue Cloak, Blue Tunic, Blue Scarf

Spindle Quickfin, or The Wanderer, is possibly Uther's most complicated persona; put shortly, Spindle is a Zora. As such, the amount of clothing, make-up, and magic involved is considerably greater than any of Uther's previous personae. Spindle is called The Wanderer because he has, supposedly, traveled the lengths of Hyrule; which, Uther has indeed done, because of his profession. The persona of spindle capitalizes on this general knowledge in order to interact, and “barter” information with others. Although he is treated with suspicion, the Zora being a secretive race and held in contempt for having escaped the brunt of Ganon's invasion, Spindle has very little trouble finding the curious and the young to converse with. Attracted by the supposed foreigner, children have a very difficult time staying away from Spindle, who tells them stories of far off lands in exchange for rumors, and other information, on the local area.

The first part of Uther's grand deception is the change in color of his skin. In this respect, it takes about half magic, and half make-up to change his golden skin into a shiny blue. First he layers on a think coating of blue paste, giving his skin a very strong blue tint. Using his Actor's Illusion, he then makes his skin smooth in appearance. He also places the paste into his hair and eyebrows, changing his ponytail into the trademark Zora dorsal fin. As for his eyes, he uses purely magic, to change them to a jet black color entirely. Unfortunately there is very little he can do about his mouth and teeth, unable to give himself the pointed teeth of the Zora without expending a great amount of energy towards his magics. As such, he wears a long blue scarf around the lower half of his face, concealing his mouth, which also hides the fact that his voice is not the same as the other Zora.

For the most part, Spindle's clothing is similar to his normal appearance, his cloak wrapping around his entire body tightly, and his hood up and covering his head. Although he is skilled in his trade, there is only so much he can do; therefore, he eliminates as much risk as possible. Finally, to complete the illusion, he straps a pair of old Zora Fins, which he took from a corpse, to his forearms, using the blue paste to hide the seam and the lashings for the most part. As his luck would have it, the fins are small, and fairly unobtrusive.

    The Lover, Gabriel Amante:

Clothing: Frilled Dress Shirt, Etched Obsidian Cufflinks, Red Scarf, White Cotton Gloves

Glinting eyes, a suggestive chuckle, a crooked smile; The Lover is irresistibly charming, garbed in white and black. Loose shirt billowing in the wind, Gabriel can usually be found wandering the streets of the more lavish areas of town, where the upper echelons of society live. Usually standing where he can garner the most attention, Gabriel Amante can be found soliciting his services, standing cockily with one hand on his hip. The Lover's ultimate goal is the seduction of noblemen and women, in order to garner information from them. He uses his quiet charm and cool demeanor as potent weapons against his victims, disarming them with his smile and subtle ways.

Gabriel Amante is relatively similar in appearance to Uther himself; Uther puts a small amount of make-up onto his skin, changing it from a bronze color to a nice tan instead, giving him an exotic appearance. For his face, he merely conceals the darkness below his eyes, which appear almond shaped rather than vulpine. Letting his hair fall about his shoulders, Uther usually spends a fair amount of time combing out his hair, until it is a shiny and smoky grey in appearance, further enhancing his exotic look. Using his Actor's Illusion, Uther expands the size of his cheeks so that they are no longer sunken in. Transformation complete, Uther wears his Dress Shirt without a tunic, his black cuff links at his wrists.

    The Night, Cassius Wolters:
Cassius Wolters embodies the killer within Uther, and is dubbed The Night; wearing all black, and very darkly colored, Cassius emerges from the shadows with dagger drawn, silently killing his mark. The art of espionage is not simply information gathering or sabotage; sometimes, Uther is called upon to search and destroy, where required. At other times, he finds it advantageous to be an assassin for higher; thick in royal intrigue and political assassination, this persona brings him closer to the higher echelons of society, closer to his heart and home. He feels comfortable in the thick of it all, The Night being Uther's most indulgent persona, one that feeds his baser emotions.

Because Cassius Wolters functions solely during the dark hours, hence the name, he wears extremely dark clothing, while also darkening his own appearance. This helps him shift into the shadows with ease, and slip past guards without much difficulty; although he may not be the most agile or physically strong, Uther is more than capable of using the his intelligence and disguise to make his way out of sight. He avoids being seen by all but his employers, knowing full well that being an assassin could easily get him killed on sight. As such, he often climbs onto rooftops, or other usually inaccessible areas. Using charcoal, Uther blackens his skin and hair extremely dark, will using the Actor's Illusion to make his skill dull, and color his eyes black.

As for his clothing, Cassius wears the exact same clothing that Uther wears normally, only using the black side of the cloak instead. Wrapped in darkness, it is incredibly difficult to see Uther in the night, though he can still be heard. To truly complete this persona, Uther seeks a magical ring that dampens the sound a user makes, called the Ring of Silence.

    The Hunger, Sethra Voltain:
Clothing: Black Tunic, Black Cloak, Blue Scarf

Sethra Voltain is a persona few get to see, for the sole reason that Sethra is a disguise meant to decieve Ganon's forces. The Hunger as it is called, is a Dinalfos with golden scales. Similar to Cassius, Sethra functions primarily at night, because the disguise would otherwise be seen through. Uther prefers that his main employer does not know his true identity, and maintains this persona around Ganon's forces; to them, Sethra is Uther's “true” persona, all others being disguises in order to blend in with the Hylians. Because he moves during the night, and does not stay in the Moblin camps, or otherwise, for very long, Sethra has yet to have his secret discovered by all but a few. Similarly to The Night, The Hunger is extremely close to Uther's true personality, fulfilling his desire for power. The Hunger denotes Sethra's intense lust for greater power and status, through any means necessary; Uther shares this philosophy.

Unlike his other personae, Sethra is almost entirely driven by magic; as such, Uther can only spend a limited amount of time in this persona, approximately half an hour. Even with his skill as an illusionist and a make-up artist, his facade is imperfect. He uses his own skin with very little embelishment, coating himself with fine mineral dust to add extra sheen. He then uses his magic to give him the appearance of having scales and reptilian eyes. However, his hands are also very important. Using a light adhesive to glue thin bones, carved into claws, onto his fingernails, Uther tries to mimic the clawed hands of other Dinalfos. The majority of his skill as a magician goes towards extending his mouth and jaw forwards, do give himself the appearance, if only slightly, of being a lizard. If one looked closely, one would notice that his snout is shorter than most Dinalfos/Lizalfos, but so far Uther has been able to pass this off as a birth defect. Using his scarf, Uther ties it around his waist, letting it drag behind him, under his cloak, mimicking the sound of a dragging tail. Sethra, for the most part, stays tightly wrapped in his cloak, like a cocoon, Uther unable to hide the fact that his legs are radically different, physiologically, from other lizardmen.

As a Persona, The Hunger functions much the same as the others; it allows him to function within the society of the “forces of evil”, as the Hylians would put it. But it also has a much less obvious purpose; using this persona, Uther has little trouble impersonating an assassin sent from Ganon, sent to kill those residing in Northern Hyrule. This generates a great deal of friction, exactly what Uther wants; thriving in chaos, all-out-war is just one part of Uther's ultimate revenge...

    Treasures:
    Rupoor Supply
    Dark Affinity
    Profession Lvl 5

    Personality:

If I remember nothing, but my darkness yet remains, what am I?

    The Deceiver:

Cold, calculating, ruthless; Uther is all of these at all times, even when taking on the character of another persona. Ultimately, he is supremely jealous of the possessions of others. Every action is motivated by his own desires for greater power over all and revenge against those who had wronged him, and although he might follow his personalities to the letter, and at times might even believe them to be real, The Actor is the one drop of deadly poison that colors Uther's sea of many emotions.

From a very young age, Uther was compelled towards deception; he could not help himself. A sickly child, unable to compete against the other children in athletics or games of dexterity, Uther found the attention he craved by spinning stories, one part true, one part false. Other times he spread vicious rumors. This quickly became a habit for Uther, whose only means of competing with his older brother, the “golden” child, was by seeking glory through the manipulation of others. Old habits die hard, as they say; Uther's entire life has become a grand deception, a web of lies even he is incapable of unraveling.

When addressed, Uther will always respond with a pompous tone of voice; he believes him supremely better than any other living being upon Hyrule, genetically or otherwise. He has a certain disdain for almost anything living, harboring an unjustified malice towards those he believes lesser beings. At the same time, however, Uther is incredibly jealous of the peaceful lives of the normal people of Hyrule. In his eyes, his greatness is both a blessing and a curse; an outcast from a very young age, he contains within himself a deep craving to be normal. However, there is no escape from his self-made stage.

    Associated Color: Purple(Envy)

    The Lover:

The Lover represents carnal desire in humanoid form; from every seductive whisper, each suggestive movement, the Lover's goal is to utterly charm and seduce his target. Behind his glinting eyes lies a gunmetal hardness, though many do not notice. Each and every movement he makes is calculated, meant to disarm his prey, as if he were a snake entrancing its next meal. Beneath the layer of charm, charisma, and coyness is a mind made of steel; although he is able to fall into this character flawlessly, this is the personality that Uther identifies the least with.

As a child, having been an outcast, Uther had very little to no experience with love, many of his emotions springing from the hatred within him. He sees sensuality as a tool by which people may fall in love, for this was the first representation of love he saw, among his peers, as he was entering adulthood. Unable to identify with love, Uther has little to no use for it and its devices, and only uses carnal desire as a means to an end, being a knife in the back of a lover.

    Associated Color: Red (Lust)

    The Hunger:

The Hunger feeds the greed within Uther. Giving into his utmost desires, Uther is compelled to take what is rightfully his, be it money, power, or title. The Hunger thrives amongst the corruption of the forces of darkness, finding its true home, where lies, hatred, jealousy are all second nature. In this environment, Uther finds that he can take whatever he wants, given that he has the power to justify it. Thus he has become addicted to not only rising in rank and position within Ganon's forces, but also with the intrigue involved with deposing those in higher positions than he.

Unable to protect his own honor and possessions when he was young, being too easily over powered by the other, healthier, children, The Hunger personifies Uther's need to hang onto every little possession he has, and to selfishly hoard as much as he can. To have possessions is to have insurance, and to have insurance is to have safety; without physical possessions, one cannot be recognized in the world, and will constantly be taken advantage of. This is the philosophy that The Hunger lives by; as such, The Hunger has a certain distaste for the poor, finding them too weak to stand for themselves, or hold onto their meager possessions. His Hunger is insatiable and all consuming, compelling Uther to live a life of political intrigue, lies, and death.

    Associated Color: Gold (Greed)

    The Night:

The Night is the latent hatred that seethes within Uther's heart, a dimly burning coal that flares to life whenever he assumes this persona. The Night is a vengeant, that believes in dealing out its own justice, against those that have wronged Uther. Uther feels at home, even at peace, as he deals with political assassinations; these were the dark visions his heart had dreamt in the dead of night as a child. To him, every mark, always a person of relatively high standing, was one of his tormentors. It was their hearts his knife plunged into, not his true victim's.

Without a strong guiding hand, Uther grew bitter in his youth, felt hate's death grip upon him from a very early age. The screams of his tormentors, in his dreams, was the sweetest of sounds to his ears, paralleled by nothing else, save the horrified looks on their faces as they died in his hands. The Night lacks any mercy, any remorse, believing that his actions are justice, paid back with due interest against those who have wronged him. For the most part, The Night is emotionally dead, feeling only hate and anger, and little else; Uther's mind is relatively blank while assuming this persona, his thoughts focused on one goal, and one goal alone: revenge.

    Associated Color: Black (Wrath)

    The Wanderer:

This form indulges in Uther's pride and vanity; because of his appearance as a Zora, he is able to openly express his disdain for those beneath him in a relatively socially acceptable manner; as a “foreigner”, the Hylians do not find it out of place that The Wanderer is socially inept. Still, Uther's disdain is not openly flaunted; out of necessity, he keeps largely to himself, bundled quietly within his cloak. Spindle is very reserved in his movements, moving relatively slowly, with fluid action, and is usually a blue, unassuming form in the corner. That being said, Spindle doesn't much enjoy the company of others, and usually tends to walk through back alleyways and more quiet roads.

Because of this habit, Spindle is often plagued by large masses of street urchins, too curious to stay away from the strange, blue fish-man. Spindle is kind to these children; whether he sees a part of his own childhood, as something unwanted, within them, or for some other reason is unknown. However, where otherwise he would pay lesser mortals any attention at all, he seems to be able to normally converse with these children, and sometimes even enjoys these conversations. Still, his ulterior motives are ever present, his quiet, velvet-soft voice lulling the children closer to him. Always knowing the hearts of his audience, Spindle manipulates the still undeveloped minds of the children, using them as both an information gathering and spreading network. They never suspect, their eyes always shining with childish wonder...

    Associated Color: Blue (Vanity)

    The Wizened:

The Wizened is the persona that Uther finds himself most repulsed by, yet he is unable to separate himself from it. To him, The Wizened represent the weakness within himself, something he tries to deny and is unable to completely cope with. Forced to appear as old and feeble, it is no surprise that Uther's ego takes a significant blow when assuming this persona, feeling that this persona offers him the least control over his audience. At the same time, The Wizened capitalizes on the pity of others, using his appearance as an old man to garner attention, and therefore information. There is little challenge in this persona for Uther, and he finds it to be a repulsive form because it takes very little skill and effort as an actor.

However, there are other reasons that Uther finds this form to be weak. It reminds him of his younger years, the look in people's eyes, that look down upon him with pity. In his mind, the greatest travesty is to look down upon Uther Heklrose. He has come to abhor those pitying eyes, feeling something bordering on incorrigible rage welling up within him. Nevertheless, this persona is invaluable to Uther's capabilities as a spy, and cannot be disposed of. The Wizened is usually quiet and unassuming, letting his “air” of wisdom and knowledge speak for itself. He is often found reading from a large book, written in a language none can understand. None suspect him, his eyes and ears absorbing information, while his mouth follows the words of the page, speaking in a fictional tongue.

    Associated Color: Green (Sloth)

    The Jester:

The Jester is cynical and bitter, hidden behind a facade of confidence and charisma. Externally, The Jester is supremely confident of every action he takes, commanding his audience with skill and wit, and a powerful personality. With a golden tongue and silver fingers, The Jester weaves a web that ensnares his onlookers quietly. The Jester, with his whimsical nature and contagious laugh, quickly earns the trust of any man. It is this trust that Uther manipulates; too distracted by glamor and sleight of hand, Uther has found that the tongues of men and women will loosen significantly, wagging easily and unbidden. He uses his charismatic ways to charm people into comfort, using this as a means of information gathering.

Behind his flashing eyes, wiggling fingers, and unceasing mouth lies a deep resentment of his kin, the Hylians. Quietly observing the his slaves during his routine, Uther finds himself disgusted at how easily manipulated they are, bending back and forth with a move of his hand. Despairing in this, Uther feels pangs of loneliness, quickly replaced by anger, because he feels isolated from the rest of his culture. Just as Uther has a distaste for The Wizened, so too does he dislike The Jester; he finds it indulgent in weakness, feeling that this despair of his will only weaken him. Ignoring the festering loneliness, The Jester surrounds himself in a shell of cynicism and bitterness, coated in mild amusement and a hollow laugh.

    Associated Color: Yellow (Despair)

    Backstory:

Who am I? The voices call to me, and I know that my shrouded past is one of darkness. Do I even want to remember?

Born under a starless night, hidden in the darkness, the first words to fall upon his ears were that of disappointment and resentment. Firstborn of Talus Heklrose, the sickly babe, named Uther, was an unwanted heir to the minor noble house. After a series of stillborn sons and daughters, Uther came as a disappointment; small and malformed, Uther was not expected to live the night. Even as a baby, Uther had unnatural strength of mind; he did not cry, nor whimper. His eyes returned his parents' gaze, their beady stare not breaking for a moment. It was this determination that brought him through that first night, and the many to follow. His younger brother was born a year later.

Healthy and strong, his brother was the son his parents had always wanted. Walking even before Uther, Eldin shone as the brightest star, Uther's soul becoming the dark shadow cast by a bright light. Even from an early age, he began to resent his younger brother; it was not simply material gifts they showered him in. His mind far surpassed his brother's. At the age of four, he saw how they looked at his brother, and the way their eyes looked down upon him. And he knew then, that he was no son to them. He could not bully his younger brother, though. His heart had yet to know true hatred for his own kin. Nor was his body even able to take him where his mind wanted, where his brother was able to move at every misguided whim.

Once they began their education, Uther felt accomplishment in his life. Always comparing himself to his younger brother, who had entered school at the same time due to Uther's entrance being delayed by his health, Uther felt proud that he could best his sibling. He learned quickly, excelling when all others failed. This did not, however, garner the attention of his parents, who were still absorbed in his younger, more charismatic, sibling. They celebrated when he received average marks, yet there was nothing in the wake of Uther's perfection. Jealousy began to grow in his heart. His intellect garnered him the attention that Uther did not crave; that of the other students.

They, too were jealous, though to him, their jealousies were petty, nothing more than a small stain. They hated him in all his intellectual glory. Often he was the end of a joke, other times he received beatings simply for besting the others. Whatever it was, the other children always found a reason to torment him, be it physically or emotionally. His brother would protect him some of the time; already, he towered amongst them, and was able to convince the others to stop, using his already formidable strength of personality. Uther resented Eldin even more. To him, his brother's protection was even worse than the hatred of his classmates; for what older sibling must be guarded by the younger?

As they grew older, his hatred grew. To gain the attention of his parents, and a reprise from his classmates, he found himself telling tall tales, of himself, and of others. For a time, he was happy. Others, on the receiving end of his sharp rumors, felt the dagger-sharp pains he felt. And sometimes it seemed that his parents did care for him. But it did not last; his reputation was precede him, and eventually his voice was ignored, nothing more than the buzz of a gnat. His mother passed, and he felt only a small pinprick of sorrow. She had always shown him more preference than his father had, though that meant little. Uther then became completely and utterly absorbed within his studies of fencing and magic, and particularly of the art of drama.

The time eventually came when his father would choose his successor to his family's formidable wealth. Dressed in flowing robes made of the finest silk fluttered about his tiny frame. This was his day, the day that he would be crowned as the successor. His brother would be present, but he did not care; as strong, tall, and charismatic as he was, Uther was the firstborn. Despite fate's cruel hand that had been dealt him, he had survived despite the odds, defiantly pressing on. His mind was sharp, and under him, the Heklrose would rise to new greatness. The war in the south mattered not to him. It was as far removed as his days as a wee child.

His robe brushing against the stone floor with a hiss, he made his way towards the great hall for the ceremony. Pushing into the room through the doors, he saw the entire family gathering, with the lesser houses crowding the edges of the room. At the altar stood his father and younger brother, clothed in like clothes. Stepping up proudly, Uther knelt before his father, followed by his brother. The tension in the room was palpable, the floor nearly vibrating with static charge.

A voice boomed out above him. “Today, I, Talus of House Heklrose shall name his successor to my family and fortune. Under his new leadership, our house will become the greatest in all Castle Town!” Uther nodded his head slowly, knowing of whom his father spoke. “Our wealth shall become the greatest in the land, an economic empire that will beggar even the greatest houses! I have the utmost confidence in my son, and his right as my true heir. I now crown my successor.” Uther heard old fingers crackling as the hands descended upon his expectant head, already imagining the new weight borne upon it.

The crowd gasped. Uther was not confused, baffled, or disappointed. He had known that it must happen, from the day his brother had been born. The gleaming jewels sat upon the head nearest his. “As you wish, father...” he whispered out, black hatred seething from his soul. He contained it masterfully, and rose, congratulating his brother. Dark gears whirled in his head, and he knew, then, how much the shadows of his heart had consumed him. His father's fate was sealed.

He slunk away, as often he had before, unnoticed and unwanted. Never the life of the party, he was not missed. As rage continued to fill him, an injection to the heart of every bone in his body, he thought of his father. His father had done nothing but nurture the pain within him; truly he was the maker from which Uther had come. Talus had stolen his life. Uther would be repaid in full.

Death shadowed him that day, as he waited for every guest to leave. It would be easy. He had long ago severed the ties of his heart with his kin; the only thing that had mattered to him was his birthright. His birthright was something that his brother had taken from him, but his father would pay. He would pay for giving birth to his brother, and for his transgressions against Uther. As the last of the guests left, his father retired to his room, Uther following him. His small hand rasped against the door.

“Father, I wish to speak with you.” a disembodied voice, with no more heart than that of a cobra's hiss. A dagger was already in his fist, made of crude, black steel, ready to strike. The door opened a crack. “Uther, my son. What brings yo--” Words cut short, as shock, pain, rage, hatred, and pity ravaged his father's face. His father was dead before he hit the ground, blood seeping from his chest. And there it was, true justice had been dealt upon his father. He looked at the face of his sire with cold, unfeeling eyes.

“... Uther?” He heard a voice from the shadows. A slur in the words. His brother stood there at the corner, looking at Uther was horror. Now possessed entirely by the envy that had so haunted his life, a scream tore from his lungs, burning as it clawed its way from his chest. His lunged towards Eldin with his dagger, but even inebriated, his brother was stronger and faster than he. Dodging to the left, fear in his eyes, he began to call for the guards. Snapping from his all consuming rage, he knew that it was over. It was flee, or lose his life. He looked to his brother. “A curse upon you and your house, brother.” he spat out. “My soul will never find peace until I see this house burned to the ground, your wife and children dead, and my vengeance dealt to you in full. Sleep with one eye open, ruler of a doomed house.”

He ran, harder than ever he had before, magical illusion aiding his escape. He escaped from Castle Town that night, and eventually made his way to Southern Hyrule. It was there that he entered into service under Ganon, his ultimate goal the complete and utter destruction of Hyrule Castle Town. He used his formidable magical and acting skills to infiltrate the nearest camp he could find, disguising himself as one of them. It was there that he begun to sow his seeds of hatred, hoping that he might spur them into the complete and utter destruction of Hyrule Castle Town. To him, every last man, woman, and child, there was one of his tormentors, yet another set of pitying eyes gazing down on him. They would pay for their transgressions.

Uther's memories have been twisted into oblivion, leaving him with nothing but questions. Even his names have been taken from him, though it seems these Nameless personae are ever present, ever twisting in his black heart.
