    How Sub-accounts Work
Sub-accounts are additional accounts created from a parent account. Like normal accounts, they can have avatars, signatures, and their own post counts. However, posting from these accounts is painless and easy, requiring only that you choose their name from the drop-down box after each post. To create a sub-account, simply go to your profile page and select "sub-accounts" in the lower left section. While it lists a password as optional, it is highly recommended you put one down anyway. Should you want to look at the site from your sub-account's view, whether it's to change your avatar, edit a post, or something else, you can easily do this by the button at the very bottom of the page titled "Login as User." This button will immediately switch accounts for you and give you the option to switch back when you feel like it.

    Rules for Sub-accounts
    1. Firstly, please use both the character's first and last names for your sub-account, so that characters can be easily differentiated between one another.
    2. When you create a sub-account for a roleplaying character, please take a moment to edit some basic information for them. Please link the character sheet information in their signature and fill in the field titled "Member" with your main-account's username so that you can easily be recognized. Finally, from your character profile also click the button "Join Groups" and join the "Character" group.
    3. Sub-accounts for roleplaying characters may only post in the RP sections on the forums. Please post in your character sheets with your main accounts as well any part of general forum discussion.
    4. Sub-accounts are mandatory for the main roleplay. If you are currently not using the system, we ask that you formally make sub-accounts for your characters before January 1st, 2014, or before the character's next roleplay, whichever is sooner.
    5. Sub-accounts should be made for a character immediately after they are accepted. A moderator will check to see everything is in order as a final part of the character creation process.

    Why Sub-accounts are Mandatory

There's been a lot of contention as to whether or not this system should or should not be mandatory for roleplayers. Many people look at the system and see it only as a trick or a gimmick, a nice feature if you like organization or attention to detail, and something that merely adds a little flavor to your character. Please understand, if these were the only things we saw to gain from adding the system, then it would not be mandatory. But what we're seeking to do is to take the roleplay to the next level. By creating a separate unit for RP Characters, it allows us to better track and interpret what goes on across the site. It allows us a better separation between IC and OOC mechanics on the site, and it lets characters become more of their own person.

Perhaps more practically, though, it allows us new and neat options like awarding characters for accomplishments through the trophy system. It also allows us to do things like install resource systems into the site, meaning we could objectively and officially keep track of a character's rupee count, treasures, or dungeon progresses. We find these things to have greater depth and weight, much more than just having a neat avatar for your character, and we're hoping to pave the way for these things. While we understand there may be skepticism for this, we believe the hardest part will be the transition, and to encourage you to give it a try we'd like to give you a bonus, which will be described in another thread.
