Kalik cautiously stepped forward into the dark and forbidden place. He had heard rumours that inside it laid a glorious treasure, second only to such items as the Triforce and Master Sword in power. Everything else however, including other rumours and his common sense, screamed for him to get away. Valoo hadn't brought him here, and yet the god also remained oddly silent on the matter, not drawing his attention to from this renegade quest.

Kalik had spent days tracking down it's entrance; rumours, hearsay and false leads made the task far more difficult than it should have been, but his lack of local knowledge meant that other ways of finding it were impossible.

Yet here he stood, the hours of thinking and pondering, trying to piece together all the bits of information he had into some solid, all those people who refused to help him until he found their Cuccos; all of it had paid off. The giant sandstone entrance had seemingly been left open to welcome Kalik, as the stone slab that should have been lowered, preventing the intruder from entering. Although the prints in the soil said something else would do that even better; dozens if not hundred of prints littered the floor, most damaged or obscured by others, but almost all shambled and uneven. Undead. Kalik, swallowed and stepped forward, getting close to a leap to get it over with. The passage was dark, and the Rito walked into it's mouth alone.

"Well this is...different." Eugene stared at the omnious gate in front of him. Finally, after three days of finding chickens and convincing terrified townsfolk he was not an evil mage hoping to resurrect some ancient evil, they had given him directions to the entrance of the infamous Shadow Temple.

He had heard a lot about it. Supposedly some terrible ancient horror was sealed at the bottom of it, but every now and then it would try to break free, scaring the people of the town near the temple and making them beg for passing adventurerers to re-seal it. After, of course, making sure said adventurerer wasn't planning on actually releasing the horror and using its power for him or herself.
But Eugene wasn't evil or power hungry, just curious. Exploring a temple, defeating some monsters and taking the loot with him seemed a perfect way to spend the day. And so he had happily agreed to help out the townsfolk and headed to the temple. But as he looked upon the dark gate towering over him, he started to doubt wether it was such a bright idea to go inside. Suddenly rounding up lost chickens seemed a much better plan.

"Here goes nothing..." Eugene muttered under his breath, grabbing the chain of his trusty cannon and dissapearing into the darkness.

The darkness within seemed to swallow the two adventurers, reducing their sight to only a few metres ahead. The sandstone floors were oddly silent against their moving feet and the walls seemed to muffle, not echo the sounds with.

As Kalik stepped further in, movement slowed by the darkness and his own caution, he paused. Breathing. Something was alive in here, but the only tracks he saw could only have belonged to undead or reanimated beings. Whatever's ahead, it was different and likely highly dangerous. Flicking his wrist, he produced a needle and held it in his hand, trying to find the source using only his ears.

Then it hit him, the breathing came from BEHIND him! Spinning around and getting ready to throw the needle he had a general idea of the breathing location. Suddenly a wispy, unnatural voice called "Look out!". Then it literally hit him from behind, a pot that is. Lunging for cover, he waited for one of his attackers to make the next move.

Eugene heard something crash in the distance. He paused for a moment, listening for any sign of life.

    "Hello? Anyone in there?"

No answer. Suddenly there was a rush of wind behind him and a clay jar whizzed over his head, slamming into the wall and breaking into pieces. Someone or something wasn't happy to see him here. Eugene quickly walked on, the quicker he got this done, the better. He started regretting coming here more and more with every step he took.
Again, a shuffling sound somewhere in the darkness. He lit a match to improve his sight a little. He saw someone standing in the distance. Someone with...wings? Feathers?

'It must be a Rito...or worse.'

Eugene approached the figure carefully, if it was hostile, he'd be in big trouble.

    "Hello?" He asked.

Kalik's fright only compounded as a light flickered on and approached him, whatever his attackers were, one was coming for him. Pulling out a javelin and readying to throw it, his eyes finally caught sight of the match-bearer. A Deku, and a friendly, or at least not hostile one at that.

Motioning for his new companion to follow, he crept up the stairs, trying to find his real attacker. At first he has confused, only a small spiked trap meet him. It was even easily avoided as it spun in the same circle over and over, not even hidden from view.

Only, when he felt he'd reached a dead end could a soft, yet wispy female voice be heard. "Hello brave adventures, you tread on holy ground long defiled. The monsters that now occupy this place are not of my master's followers, they follow the one you call Ganon, and cannot be allowed to exist. I have guarded an ancient treasure in these halls for far longer than your history can recall, and as a reward for purging these beings, may fall into your hands. The greatness of this place is lost, and can never be recovered; but let it's purpose live on, and it's enemies crumble."

Re: Shadow Temple OoT (Raz and Squishy)

"So there's treasure, eh?" Eugene said after the voice had finished. Then he turned to the Rito. "But where are my manners! My name is Eugene Flasheart!" He reached out a hand to the Rito. "It's a pleasure. Although I wish we would have been able to meet in a different...situation." He said.

"Now, shall we go and have a look at these monsters inside?" He patted his cannon. "This girl here'll keep us safe, don't worry." But then the layout of the hallway struck him. There were no doors to be seen, it was a dead end.

There were a few possibilities right now. Either this really was a dead end and there was another entrance hidden somewhere, or there was an entrance here, but it was hidden from plain sight by magic or something else. Or they could just blast the wall down and see what was behind it.

Re: Shadow Temple OoT (Raz and Squishy)

The thought struck Kalik too, if there were no doors, how were they to move forward? "Kalik... of Dragon Roost." replied the Rito, it felt as though he was lying having not returned to the isle since his first flight, yet he none the less reached out his hand too and absentmindedly shook Eugene's hand.

He gave the Deku a worried look, the spirit probably wouldn't take too kindly to that kind of destruction within the temple, but if there was no other way forward...

Suddenly a small passage caught his eye, barely two and half feet tall, both of them could probably squeeze through it, not at the same time mind you. And so Kalik ran at the wall and slid into the hole, using his hands to push of the top when he slowed down.

Bringing himself to his feet, he yelled back, "What's taking so long?" then the obvious finally struck him, "Nevermind, I figured it out. Just use the thing!" before running to a corner and covering his ears.

That won't be enough; it never is.

Re: Shadow Temple OoT (Raz and Squishy)

"Hmm..." Eugene stared at the hole through which the Rito had disappeared, and then to his cannon. "Well, old girl, we can't fit you through there. Looks like we're going to solve this the old-fashioned way, I'm afraid."
He crouched in front of the hole. "Mr. Kalik? Can you hear me? It would be a wise idea to stand back from the wall!"

Eugene took a cannonball from his bag and loaded the cannon, lit the fuse and took a few steps back, readying himself for any flying debris that might hit him.
"Alright! Three...two...ONE!" The wall was no match for the cannon, crumbling into a pile of rubble. Unfortunately, some of the ceiling had also been taken away, which caused two like-likes and a skulltula to drop down.

"Oh dear. Why is it never easy to move around in these places?" Eugene mused to himself as he felt the fire of flame choke surge through his hands, ready for an attack. "Seems like there is only one way to deal with this, my friend!" He said to the Rito as he lunged forward at one of the like-likes.

Re: Shadow Temple OoT (Raz and Squishy)

Kalik saw the monsters descend from the floor above, and immediately readied for a fight. He wasn't sure the Deku could take on the like-like without his cannon, but there were more threats than a single like-like, so he'd have to trust it. He flicked three needles into his hand and threw each, one at a time directly into the creature's mouth.

It couldn't absorb all three. The first was eaten by the dumb being, but the other did enough to distract it that the latter two struck true, ripping into the thing's body as Kalik lunged forward with his Kukri to deliver the final blow. The creature split as remnants of shields spilt forth, covering the ground. The birdman quickly spun and tossed a javelin at the skulltula, striking it just to the left of it's centre, but doing no real damage. This however, was exactly as he wanted, and as the spider spun, another javelin hit it's belly; leaving the dead mass hanging by it's own thread.

Re: Shadow Temple OoT (Raz and Squishy)

As the rito took care of the skulltula and the other like-like, Eugene scared the last one off. He gripped the creature with both hands, sending a flame choke through it and avoiding its gaping mouth. Soon, the creature melt into a puddle and seeped into the stone floor.

"Well, what a smashing welcoming comittee!" Eugene said enthusiastically, wringing his hands together to dowse the last of the flames. Being a deku and using flame choke came with a price. "I hope we don't run into trouble too much, either the place'll be blown down or I'll accidentally set fire to myself. And we wouldn't want that, do we now?"

They were now in a large room, standing on a sort of stone balcony over a black, seemingly bottomless pit. On the other side however, was a door. The problem was not the bottomless pit, but rather the fact the door was locked with a heavy chain. And they didn't have the key.

"It's never as easy as you hope, is it?" Eugene asked his rito companion.

Re: Shadow Temple OoT (Raz and Squishy)

"It seems not, and that mechanical beast can't bring it down?" responded the Rito, "Then we shouldn't stay here any longer, there seems to be a door over there. Hopefully the key is beyond it." And immediately proceeded through the opening.

Beyond was a poorly lit room made of cold stone and black mortar, with skulls decorating the walls and poles through-out the room. The largest feature however, was a large statue of a bird in the centre, and as he approached it a dark voice crept into the companion`s skulls, "Make my beak face the skull of truth."

Yet to the Rito each of the walls was identical in every aspect, and even upon closer inspection each of them felt just as solid and cold as the next, as if some strange (circular, clear, lens-like) object was needed to tell which was which. He had no way of telling them apart now.

...Well, time to blow stuff up.

"Eugene?" shout Kalik, "The ghost won't like it, but why not just blow down walls until we find the one we need?" As he turned to the cannon-wielding Deku, noticed for the first time the burns on his hands, "And be careful, it seems we need each other for this."

"Oh, easy, easy!" Eugene laughed. "If we blow up every wall we come across we might have the ceiling collapse on top of us. No, I think there's a simpler solution to this." He walked over to the statue. "It seems we'll just have to work with trial and error."

He pushed the statue until the beak faced the first skull. Nothing happened. Eugene repeated the process until they finally found the right skull, and one of the walls disappeared, leaving a passage into a dark and narrow hallway.

Kalik sighed at the Deku, surely someone who dragged a cannon around to even the worst situations for it must want to see explosions and the terrible effects of such a weapon. Still, his loss, and he even managed to find the answer to this puzzle without the decoder or whatever it was.

The door was open and waiting in any case, and the Rito simply walked through it, motioning for Eugene to follow. Each of the walls in here were identical too, but no bird-statue or message to relate; another illusion. He simply dragged his hand along the wall trying to find a fake section or stone. Even after almost circling the place, everything was still as solid as stone (which is kinda what it was). "I don't think it's here, maybe we have to go back an-Ahhhh!"

Kalik let out a yelp as he fell through and into a secret (can you really call them secret anymore? They're all over the palce anyway!) passage, with a thud. The proud bird-man quickly recovered his footing however, and proceeded through the door opposite, hoping to recover his dignity too.

Inside the room was barely lit, and little could be seen more than a few metres ahead. As well it appeared to be little more than a cave inside, the only defining feature was a ring of thin, bone-like pillars in the middle. "This is easy, I've seen it a hundred times before." boasted the Rito "all we have to do is light the tops on fire and then a che-MMMMMMMM!" Kalik literally jumped in surprise as one of the pillar shot down with unnatural speed and gripped his face.

He really should just stop talking in here.

Eugene saw Kalik fall through the wall and quickly followed, perched on top of his cannon, sliding down the secret passage.

The room at the bottom was dimly lit, with a foul stench of decay and blood in the air. Something wasn't quite right about those pillars...

"I'd be careful if I were you, it can't be that sim-" Eugene started, and that was when it happened.

The rito had come too close to one of the 'pillars', it had grabbed him by the face and lifted him up like he weighed nothing. Before Eugene could make a move a different hand had grabbed him by the throat and lifted him off his cannon, another hand throwing it across the room, far out of reach.

The ground shook and rumbled, the earth in the middle of the room moved, as if something was making its way up from underground. And in fact, something was. At the center of the rings of hands, something white protruded form the ground, like the top of a skull. As it rose, it was followed by a gaping mouth with vicious teeth, a long thin, bone-white neck, and a fat corpse-like body.

The creature let out a shrill scream, and turned to the two unfortunate adventurers.

"Well," Eugene sputtered. "Looks like we're in a real pickle now!"
  15. Razgriz

Kalik grasped at the hand currently around his face, one tight enough that he couldn't breath. He tried punching, tearing and grabbing at the bony appendage, but to no avail, it's grip seemed unbreakable to such a mortal. This was the end, he had just about given up, it would end here and he merely let death overtake him. His arms went limp, and legs movement weakened, his body barely seemed to respond.

Then his hand brushed against something... leathery, his mind wandered to solve this mystery, what did he have that was leather: clothing, no his was cloth; a pouch, he had none, that only left one thing, a grip. He fumbled around his waist until he had it in his hand, his dusty kukri, barely used in months, more a tool than a weapon, but it would suffice. Summoning his strength back into his arm and hacked at the monster grabbing at him; and would again, and again, and again, until it finally released.

Free, but barely awake he tried a javelin at the white blob baring down on them, but his lack of strength failed to even make it recoil, speed could only save him now; should he manage it. Lunging at the arm holding Eugene, he cut at it, not so much a slash but merely letting his momentum do the damage.

The arm holding Eugene bend as Kalik collided with it, sending Eugene crashing into the ground, but the hand did not let go. Instead, it just rose back up, tightening its iron grip around the small deku. Eugene tried with all his might to pry the fingers around his throat loose, but to no avail. In the meantime, the white creature had crawled closer.

"For the love of Nayru, please let- AAGH!" The white creature had sunk its teeth into Eugene's shoulder, biting off a few splinters. Eugene had let go of the fingers around his neck, instead focusing on the maw of the creature trying to eat him. He waited until the creature came close again, ready to take another bite, and grabbed its face, sending a flame choke through it.

And that was the trick, the hand let go and Eugene dropped to the ground, quickly getting out of the hand's reach.

"It looks like they're connected!" He shouted at Kalik. "Do you think you can keep that thing busy? I'd like to give it a special treat!"

Without waiting for the rito's answer, he started making his way across the room, dodging the grabbing hands, towards his canno.
  17. Razgriz

Razgriz Leader of the Revolution reg

Kalik only nodded at Eugene, he'd do what he could. Admittedly that wasn't too much, only sheer willpower kept him from collapsing right now, and his only motivation was that the hope that the cannon would do it in.

"Hey fat blob... Lady... thing?" bellowed the Rito; ok seriously what hell is that thing? He wasn't even sure if it was a monster, a spirit, an illusion or... If this was just a goddesses damn illusion he was gonna be pissed. One thing was sure though, that wasn't even the strongest presence in here, and this may very well kill them.

The bird threw another javelin at the blob, trying to get it's attention and succeeding this time. "Don't just sit there, are we fighting or drinking tea?!" yelled the Rito, not his best insult but come on, near-death experiences do that to a guy. And he even threw few a needles into the base of an arm for good measure, causing the thing to panic and reach for the aggressor, whose just barely out of reach.

He had the thing distracted, but for how long could this weak, injured Rito survive?
  18. Squishy

Eugene was lucky he was a deku, if he hadn't been, he wasn't sure wether he would have been able to reach, turn over and load his cannon. He hoped the rito would be able to keep the monster busy for just a few seconds more, as he still needed to aim and light the fuse.

Luckily, he got that time. He aimed at the creatures head, lit the fuse and waited.

The cannonball hit the creature square in the maw, knocking out a teeth or two and the sheer force of it snapped the creature's head, making it dangle backwards helplessly.

Eugene hoped that was the end of the thing, but after a second of silence it screamed again and moved on, like nothing happened, although it went a little slow, like it didn't know where it was going.

"Kalik! I'll keep you covered, its neck is its weak spot now! Hurry!"

He saw one of the hands make a move towards his feathered companion on the other side of the room, impossible to reach fast enough to knock Kalik out of the way. But Eugene had a trick up his sleeve. He sucked in air, aimed his mouth at the hand and spat a deku nut at it, knocking the hand away and giving Kalik a chance to get close to the monster.

"But please don't make me do this again... It's unsightly really..." He muttered.

Kalik took the only real there was, reloading the cannon would take too long he knew. Having air in his lungs helped his stamina, and he was once again to fight like a cat on a Ferris wheel (Hey, he's not all better). Sprinting as fast as he could the bird-man went right beside, lunging as if to sever the head in a single strike. At the last second however, he deaked to it's front and ran over it, lowering the knife to cut all along the way.

The man wasn't done though, and returned to cross-cut the thing once more. While the blob screeched, it ultimately survived two surely fatal blows leaving only the most desperate option. Feinting his way back onto it, he stopped on it's chest, hacking away at it's neck as arms sprouted and began to pull him in. He had hacked about half the thing's neck off as his abdomen sank into it's milky form.

The desperation returned, and his breathing became more erratic as more of his body disappeared. Soon the head was only on by a thread, but the Rito's arm was trapped as the arms reached even his head and knife, and so the Rito became lost in being.

A tense few seconds turned into a minute, than 2, and when all hope seemed lost a scream filled the air, soon turning into two. The head mysteriously fell to the floor, a shiny metallic shard sticking out was the only sign of what had happened.

As it seemed to deflate, a screaming Rito lay where the body had disappeared, out of breath and panicking for the first time in ages.

Eugene hurried over to the screaming rito and tried to calm him down.

"It's fine, Kalik! It's gone, easy now!" He held Kalik by the shoulders and gently shook him. "Here, drink this." He handed the rito his liquor flask, patting his shoulder and smiling. "It'll help calm the nerves."

He stood up and hauled his cannon over to where Kalik was sitting and sat down next to him, sighing.

"Well, after all that, I could do with a breather. I wonder what more horrors this place's got for us. I'm not sure wether I want to think about it too much..." Eugene let out a nervous laugh.

The creature they had just defeated was very likely just one of the many horrors hiding in the temple, and by far not the strongest. But for now, they could allow themselves a little break to catch their breaths and gather their wits before going on again.
