Equipment: Equipment-wise, Red keeps a small pack of essential items on his person at all times. Among these trinkets can be found a set of playing cards, a crucial piece when it comes to performing sleights of hand. Another such keepsake is an old, charred photo of a lovely lady. For defensive, as well as practical purposes, Red hangs on to a single hunting knife. For more magical endeavors, he carries around a simple, gnarled-looking wooden staff.

As for clothing, Red's style rarely changes. An old, baggy, long-sleeved tunic provides him with little protection, and his time spent out in the elements has irreversibly sun-bleached it, rendering it a light blue in coloration. His pale green pants are likewise well-worn, and feature an array of patchwork and stitching that they've accumulated over the years. His feet fit snugly into a pair of dark brown leather boots, the majority of which are covered by the aforementioned leggings. Draped across his shoulders is a hooded cape, its royal blue hue and umber trim standing in stark contrast to the rest of his attire. He also keeps a scarf wrapped around his neck for warmth, its navy and light gray stripes blending well with his otherwise rough ensemble.

    Pet: N/A

Appearance: In terms of height and weight, Red measures in at 5'8" and 131 lbs. Overall, he appears remarkably thin and lithe, though whether that's intentional or due to his light eating is anyone's guess. Unlike most Hylians dwelling in Northern Hyrule, Red has a ragged appearance. His chocolate-colored hair is fairly unkempt, though its not easily noticeable while his hood is up, and he perpetually keeps a light, scruffy beard. Two dark, yet inviting eyes peer out at the world from beneath thick brows. His skin is naturally on the paler side, but the grime that sometimes covers his hands and face can make him appear tanner than he really is.

Personality: In contrast to his poor and downtrodden appearance, Red's most common expression is a look of mirth. While he certainly does try to smile often, it's not always because he's genuinely happy. For instance, his grin could be wry, belying a devious plan of some sort, or it could even be a mask to obscure his anger or sadness. This is not to say that he always falsifies his emotions, or that he's even capable of doing so all the time, just that he knows the tactical value of a well-placed smile. He's known to have qualms with certain illegal activities, but is more open to others, such as theft. However, no matter how petty the crime, there may be certain circumstances where he's unwilling to cross the line, such as robbing a beggar.

Like a true magician, he delights in confounding others and rarely divulges his secrets. He's also quite easily amused, and presents the persona of being something of an optimist, always looking for a silver lining. On the less positive side of things, due to his history of stimulant abuse, he's developed something of an addictive personality. Thankfully, he recognizes this, and tries to avoid partaking of such substances.

Background: Red once belonged to a relatively well-to-do family in Kasuto. Of course, he wasn't commonly known as Red Herring during that point in his life, but as Eugene Harden. In comparison to others, his young life was generally uneventful. The only thing that made him stand out was his affinity for magic, specifically that of the illusion field. He showed great promise, having garnered understanding of such spells as the Phantasmal Spell and Handheld Illusion at an early age. Unfortunately, his wry approach to practicing and displaying his powers earned him few friends. Among those scant acquaintances was a girl by the name of Lucy, who found his abilities to be marvelous and his sense of humor in line with her own. Even as other friends came and went, Eugene and Lucy only grew closer, until they eventually married while in their late teens.

For the next two years, life was remarkably well for the happy couple. Of course, few good things last forever. Word came of a powerful, dark army making its way up from the south. Few had time to prepare before the force was upon them, slaughtering all that were caught before their advance. In spite of Eugene's efforts to protect her, Lucy was cut down by the horde. Though filled with grief, he managed to escape the city with his own life. His desperate journey led him to Darunia, where he took up many bad habits to try and forget his ordeals. He drained his pockets and nearly drove himself to oblivion in the process. It took him years to learn how to cope, but he did finally make a come back. Now practically penniless with only a handful of belongings to his name, he decided to make use of his old talents to try and find a new place for himself in the world. Donning the cloak his wife had made him and utilizing a playful, childhood pseudonym, Red Herring was born.

Red Herring seems like a great character! I'm just a little disappointed he's not some maniac berserker though, lmao.

But really, everything seems to be in order here -- so I see no reason as to why Red Herring should not be approved.
