    - Laurel Veranius, magic fencer (Hylian, 2/5/2) [Blonde Panther] Reward: Magic Rod, -10 Rupees (Had 55, now has 45)

"Ezekiel!" Laurel's fist connected with the hard wood of her brother's bedroom door. Again. And again. And again. No response from the other side. "Brother!" Still no response. The mage put her hands on her hips. Was this guy for real? If he wasn't in there, she'd need a different way to get in. She was getting in there, and that was the end of it. He might have possessed it for the past six months, but that book on the Magic Rod and its uses did not belong to him. It was hers.

Urgh. He was just not answering his damned door. Well then, Laurel assumed he wasn't in and pushed it open herself. It was unlocked, strangely enough. Ezekiel normally locked his door when he went out. Still, Laurel didn't want to wait for him to return and went into the room, immediately walking over to his desk.

It was a blessed mess was what it was. Books (but of course not the one she was looking for), notes in his abysmal handwriting, quills and jars of ink were littered all over his desk and Laurel, being a neat freak when it came to working spaces, started cleaning it out. Stacking the notes together and shoving the stacks onto a corner of the desk, she then did the same with the books, checking the title of each of them to ensure hers wasn't in there.

No luck. By the time she got to throwing out the unusable quills and the empty jars of ink, she still hadn't found her book. "...damn you, Ezekiel. This was the absolute last time I've lent you a book." This was the third time she'd said that, but this time she meant it. As she opened a drawer, her attention was drawn by a scrap of paper falling out. She suppressed a cuss -it wasn't fitting of a lady to cuss- and picked it up, unable to restrain her curiosity.

The handwriting was positively illegible. However, with a lot of effort, Laurel could distinguish a few words. Blood... sacrifice... demon? And then a few names of people who had disappeared or had an immense debt with her brother's small business. ...this was pretty disturbing. Was signed... Taylor Cassidy. She recalled her brother had a friend by that name. Friend and business partner, actually. She'd never met him, but she hoped he wasn't in charge of administration if this was the handwriting he always used.

Having had no success in finding her book, Laurel decided to get back to her own room and try to finish her research without it. She certainly didn't want to linger in there for long... if Ezekiel came home and found her there she'd be in for it.
