I've mentioned this elsewhere, but eh, I'll elaborate more here on how I think it should work. Anyone who joins the board is automatically a Newbie. They have three PWC points to distribute on their characters, can obtain one major treasure, and have access to only the standard races. After being on the site for at least a month, and being a decent, moderately-active, and respectable role-player, a Newbie can be nominated to become a Regular. To be nominated, a Regular must make a new promotion thread in the Regulars subforum (which is hidden to guests and Newbies), including the Newbie's username. A poll will be held for two weeks; if at least six have voted and there is a 2/3 majority, the Newbie is promoted. Alternatively, an Admin can immediately turn anyone into a Regular (although I would suggest that be done sparingly). All staffers are automatically promoted to Regulars--but they must be promoted to Veterans in the same way as a regular member. Regulars have four PWC points to distribute on their characters, and can obtain three major treasures, but still have access to only the standard races. At any point, a Regular can be nominated to become a Veteran. Whereas a Regular is 'decent,' a Veteran should be the cream of the crop. When you look at a Veteran's post, you should think without hesitation, "This fellow's a damn good role-player." Like with the previous promotion, a Veteran or Staffer must make a new promotion thread in the Veterans subforum (which is hidden to all but Veterans and Staff), including the Regular's username. A poll will be held for two weeks; if at least three have voted and there is a 2/3 majority, the Regular is promoted. Veterans have five PWC points to distribute on their characters, can obtain five major treasures, and may make characters of the Veteran races--Subrosian, Tokay, Skull Kid, and Picori. The number needed to finish a promotion poll will, of course, scale up if HC gets significantly more active members. There may be additional bonuses to being a Regular or Veteran developed in the future, but for now this is all I've got. So, those are my thoughts on the matter. What are yours?
I like it, I think it will work great. One question I have is how will the first few Veterans be decided? Through staff votes? Also, I guess I missed this, but what is the definition of a Major Treasure?
A Major Treasure is a particularly powerful treasure (skill, spell, technique, or magic-tier item). Because of their power, a character is slotted only a few of them. And yes, the first Veterans would be through Staff votes. Staff members can vote in Veteran polls (although of course they can't vote for themselves).
