Equipment & Attire

Longsword
Normally found in a large, green-and-gold scabbard at her left hip is Ruby's trusted steel longsword. Issued to her by the Hyrulean military, it was the weapon she was trained in, and consequently one with which she is most proficient.

The blade itself is just over thirty-three inches in length, with a cross-section of the broad fuller variant. The hilt is composed of the characteristic large crucifix characteristic of longswords, with a broad cross-guard and a grip long enough to be wielded in both hands. The pommel is fairly small, and shaped as a tear-drop with a spherical base, its point facing the direction opposite the blade.

Buckler
Often strapped to Ruby's left forearm is her iron buckler, again issued to her by the Hyrulean military. Circular, it is just over a foot in diameter. Its face is shimmering and polished, with the Hyrule Royal Crest etched in golden across the entire circle, with a black trim within an inch of the outer circumference. The tight-fitting straps allow the buckler to dangle from her arm, but a handle is present so it may be gripped more securely in combat.

Mail
Issued Ruby is the mail given to all guards of her position and rank. The first layer is a white tunic and matching black tights with pockets, as well as matching white socks. Over this is worn a chainmail hauberk of a strange green metal, which covers the lengths of the arms, and comparatively thin and weak green chainmail leggings. (The leggings have small slits, through which the trouser pockets may be accessed.) Over this is worn a silvery breastplate again imbued with the golden Hyrule Royal Crest, matching faulds beneath that, a pair of steel gauntlets reaching two-thirds up the forearm, and brown leather boots. Finally there is her sword's scabbard at her hip, her buckler, and her visorless helmet... although she typically carries her helmet under-arm, or if allowed to do so, leaves it at the barracks.

Scent Seed Pouch
Generally found pulled shut and dangling from her waist is a small pouch containing a seemingly endless supply of scent seeds. The tiny orange beads have often proven invaluable when battling feral monsters or navigating the wilderness, and could theoretically serve as emergency rations...

Pockets: Flute, Rupees, Parchment
Typically found within Ruby's pants pockets iare her sum of rupees, at least a couple pieces of parchment ready to be written upon or folded, and her flute. Her flute is a deep forest green and color, wooden, and very small, being roughly seven inches in length; it has a tiny golden Triforce symbol etched into the side opposite the mouthpiece.


Physicality & Appearance
Ruby's body and overall skeletal structure is quite average for a Hylian woman, although combat and walking around in full armor makes her considerable more toned and muscular. Her hands are callused, and the feminine curves of her body are modest. Her skin overall is a bit fairer than usual, as it is often hidden beneath thick layers of armor which sunlight cannot hope to penetrate.

Her eyes are a typical green, and her hair bright blond. Her hairstyle of choice is... strangely... a bowlcut, with the "bowl" tilted backward slightly along her head. The bangs which dangle in the front come just half an inch above her blonde, somewhat thick eyebrows. Her face itself has no particularly notable features for a 23-year-old woman, aside from some very light freckles on the cheeks, and overall her face is mildly attractive--probably her most physically attractive feature.


Personality
Ruby tends to come off as a very candid individual who attempts to limit and adhere herself to an almost stoic sense of duty. As such, it should not be of much surprise that she is an extremely dutiful individual. She is sincerely honest, kind, and warm, although she often comes off less so that she would often wish. In all matters of her life, she endeavors to the best of her ability, and rarely needs any motivation other than yearning to strive to do a good job.

She is open-minded and sensitive to those around her, at times to the point of cowardice of not wishing to metaphorically step on anyone's toes. Ruby ultimately believes in the preservation of good, and although trained well for martial combat, believes in diplomacy for those who are willing to hear it. As such, she can at times be obnoxiously adherent to laws, rules, and the social norm.

Although most of her time is spent day in and day out working as a dutiful member of the Guard, and as an upstanding citizen, in her spare time she enjoys oragami and writing short stories, hence why she is rarely found without suitable parchment.

For numerous reasons, Ruby holds Deku Scrubs in unusually high regard, to the point she secretly wishes to be one. She deeply respects their ability to live without needing to kill other animals or waste the environment, as well as their strong sense of purpose and generally dutiful nature, among other reasons.


Backstory
Overall, Ruby's life has been fairly normal and without much incident. She was born and raised in Castle-Town the rather typical fashion expected of the middle class, attended school, made a few friends whom she still knows, and overall had a rather happy little childhood. Somewhat unusual, however, was how she was one of few Hylian children who always seemed to be so interested in playing with the Business Scrubs' children instead of those of her own race, or even the Gorons. Being the only child of a Hyrule Castle Guard and a Royal Blacksmith, it was no surprise that even from an early age, Ruby followed in her father's footsteps to become a member of the Guard herself, eventually coming to be somewhat accomplished in that line of work for a young adult.

While she herself is normally stationed in defense near the Castle, her father has time and time again been sent to aid the south. Although he has only once been significantly injured in battle, Ruby herself cannot help but worry for his safety time and time again.

The one mar on her family's name is that of, "Devilheart." For his treason, of which Ruby herself still knows little, her great grandfather was marked with this name, and by law none of his descendants could ever change it. In modern times it affects little, but every now and then an ancient Business Scrub or an elderly man will give her a stern glare or a few harsh words... and she can't help but wonder...


Mount: Emerald
Emerald is a mare trained by the Hyrulean army to be used both in combat and for transportation. She was not specifically issued to Ruby--those of her rank and position are not given horses normally--but as a member of the Guard she was free to purchase it fully-trained.

Emerald herself is almost completely black, from hooves to fur to mane, excluding only a white tuft of hair on the crest above her nose and between her eyes. As expected of a warhorse, she is well-trained to follow simple commands and gestures, and will not falter if brought into battle.

What? Guy made a Hylian instead of another deku? Lol, I like it.

There is one error I found in it though, really minor. Second paragraph in backstory: "her father has been time and time again been"

One of those been's need to be taken out I think. Other than that I'll accept this character.

Notice how the first thing on her treasure wishlist is a Deku Transformation Mask.

Fixed.

-10 rupees for entering the Grimm Lottery, bringing her total to exactly zero.

+1 Wisdom for being promoted to Veteran, bringing her PWC to an even 3/3/3.

Due to the Christmas Event, Ruby nets a Scent Seed Supply.
