    Equipment:
Fighter's Sword - Rua's primary weapon is a simple steel longsword, with a curved, dull gold crossguard and a two and a half foot long blade. The hilt of the weapon is wrapped in leather, and ends with a round pommel. The weapon has seen many years, but remains sturdy through diligent care. The sword is kept in a hardened leather scabbard held on his belt at his left hip.

Hylian Shield - Rua now carries a simple metal shield, in the standard kite shape of hylian forces. The shield carries the standard golden Triforce and red Hylian crest upon its blue painted surface, and is fairly old but still serviceable. Rua suspects it was taken from the corpse of a fallen hylian soldier.

Hunting Knife - Rua carries a small knife used for hunting. It has a four-inch-long single-edged steel blade, with a small gold crossbar and carved antler hilt. Its kept in a small sheathe on his belt. It is used in combat only as a last resort.

Travel Satchel - Rua owns a travel satchel used for carrying foodstuffs and other supplies. The bag is squarish in shape, covered with a flap emblazoned with a black Triforce symbol, and is carried on a long strap. He wears the satchel on his right hip, with the strap over the left shoulder. Among its contents are four bottles, a map, a key ring, a compass, a travel lantern, and a Rupee wallet.

    Appearance:
Rua is a tall, male Hylian. He has a body build that is toned and athletic, showing much strength without adding a lot of bulk to his body. He has a white complexion, but his skin has been darkened a bit by exposure to the sun. His hair is longer than most men, and dark brown in color. His hair is parted down the middle, allowing his bangs to fall down to the side, and is a bit unruly at times. His eyes are a dark green color. His hair oftentimes gets in the way of his eyes, but this hardly bothers him or hinders his eyesight. His face is marred by a trio of scars: on the right side of his face, a scar cuts down from his temple to just above his jawbone, and another crosses over it from the cheekbone down to the tip of the hinge of his jaw. Another scar cuts horizontally next to the bridge of his nose, across beneath his left eye, to his left cheekbone. A number of other scars line his torso and upper legs, including one large one on his upper left chest just below the shoulder, caused by a Moblin spear, and another across the top of his right shoulder. Another notable scar rests on his left forearm, going from the top of his wrist across the forearm to his elbow.

Rua’s main attire is a sturdy traveling outfit, designed to be flexible during battle, yet strong enough to take light blows and to weather the meteorological elements of nature. It consists of a scarf, long-sleeved shirt, sleeveless coat, thick pants, traveling boots, leather gauntlets, and some belts. All of the fabric articles of clothing Rua wears show numerous stitching from where Rua had to repair tears in the clothing.

The long-sleeved shirt is black and made of a light, soft, yet sturdy fabric, and the sleeves cover the length of his arms to the wrists. His coat is cobalt in color, and do not have any sleeves. The coat length ends around halfway down his thighs, and contains both buttons and loopholes as well as a zipper, and its collar has a white fur lining, like those seen on leather biker jackets. The coat has a number of interior pockets, and two large exterior ones around the waistline, and a silver-colored dragon is embroidered on the left side of the coat’s chest. Rua normally keeps the coat open, but held down with a thick leather belt around the waist. The belt has three small pouches attached, and a simple leather scabbard attached to the left side. Rua’s pants are also black in color, and extend all the way down to his ankles. They are made of a light and durable material, allowing him both protection and maneuverability when on the move. The color of Rua’s pants is faded from the amount of travel Rua’s accumulated over the years.

Rua wears a pair of durable leather gauntlets on his hands, which extend over his shirt and down his arm nearly to the elbow. The fingers to these gloves are missing. Rua also wears a pair of light, soft-leather boots, dark red in color, which extend up his leg over his pants almost to his knees. Around his neck, Rua wears a black leather scarf, wrapped around a couple of times with the tails hanging over his shoulders behind him. The scarf was not meant for warmth, but to prevent neck injuries, such as someone coming up behind him with a knife to slit his throat. When traveling, Rua often wears a dark red cloak to protect him from the elements. The cloak opens in the front and drapes around his shoulders, and the bottom hem of the cloak have been worn ragged from prolonged use and engagements in battle.

    Personality:
Rua is often quiet, refraining from speaking very often. He is an introverted, often brooding individual, making cheerful expressions on his face a distinct rarity, though he doesn't look hostile towards others. His manner keeps him from opening up to others, as he is not particularly trusting right away. His thoughts often turn back to old memories prior to the war of exile when he finds himself idle or with nothing to do. He is stubborn, and resistant to change. While this makes him a particularly difficult in battle, outside of combat it can often lead to arguments and raised tempers should he be particularly adamant about something. When others take an interest in them, he often asks prodding questions while sounding suspicious. If he doesn't find any threat in them, he will grudgingly allow them to follow him--he prefers staying by himself, but is not entirely adverse to company. Rua has also developed a strange liking to various soups, and often orders such a meal over any other at inns.

    Residence:
Rua currently has no place of residence—while he did have a place to stay in the Western Caves, he is certain that as of now, that has been given to someone else now that he has left. He does not return to the Caves often enough to warrant keeping a residence there and refuses whenever one is offered.

    Pet:
Rua has no pets, lacking the ability to sustain one. He has no plans to get one.

    Backstory:
Rua was born in Kakariko Village, to a young couple married for less than a year. His parents having a stable and caring relationship, Rua grew up happy and healthy, without any real negative personality traits. When Rua reached the age of three years old, his family gained another addition with the birth of his baby sister, Kalia. Unlike most children, he took to her right away and was not jealous of the baby girl. The two grew quite close, and it was not uncommon to see Kalia following her brother about the town as the days went by. Kalia grew up a bit of a tomboy, and grew close to both Rua’s friends as well as the other young girls in the village. The bond between the two children made them practically inseparable.

At the age of thirteen, Rua, swooned by tales of adventure, began learning how to use a sword, trained by a family friend in the local militia, and the town blacksmith. While his initial training was awkward and slow, he eventually began to develop an affinity for his chosen weapon, and he slowly began to improve. The blacksmith also taught him how to forge his own weapon, and to keep it in shape—oftentimes, when not training, helping his parents with household duties, or entertaining his little sister, Rua was found at the blacksmith, learning more about the method of weapon creation. In time, Rua eventually crafted a steel-bladed long sword entirely on his own, a weapon he continues to use up to this day.

At the age of fifteen, one of the village girls, Ayls Larawn, went missing, and was reported to have been dragged off by small pack of wild Moblins. A number of the adults banded together to chase after them, and Rua volunteered to go with them, seeking to put his training to good use. Half a day of searching revealed the Moblins to have taken the girl east, towards the river. Upon reaching them, the adults formulated a plan that prevented Rua from participating in the actual combat, instead having him guide the girl away from the fighting while the adults held off the Moblins. When the plan was executed, Rua was able to successfully navigate around the Moblins as the adults assaulted them, and freed the girl from her bondage. While he tried to lead her around the battle, however, one of the Moblins detected his presence and attacked him. While Rua was to overcome his initial fear and successfully dispatched the Moblin, he came out of the battle wounded, having taken a spear to his shoulder when protecting the scared girl he was trying to lead to safety. His outlook on adventure had changed—it was not the fun and exciting journey he had been lead to believe. Nevertheless, he decided to continue on those dreams. Upon returning to the village, Rua was hailed as a “hero” by his community, as one so brave for one so young, and earned a kiss from the maiden he had helped rescue.

At fifteen, war found its way into Southern Hyrule, and nothing was the same ever since. Rua found himself drafted into the service of the town militia, and he participated in a number of battles against the hordes of Ganon, fighting many Moblins and Goriyas in defense of Kakariko. He saw many friends die in the battles, and little by little, they were worn down. During one battle, Rua took a wound across the face, and as a result his post was replaced by someone else as he was taken back to be healed. The next day, however, the defenses of Kakariko were overrun, and a final desperate battle was fought as the townspeople evacuated. During the battle, Rua took up his sword once more to help fight, and in the heat of the battle, witnessed as his parents were killed by a towering Darknut. Overcome by rage, he attempted to fight his way towards the monster, but he and the other fighters were pushed back by the onslaught of Ganon’s forces. In the end, Kakariko had been destroyed, leaving the townspeople to pick up the pieces as the horde left. Over sixty percent of its population had been killed, and half of the remaining population had gone missing. After burying his parents, Rua slowly began to change, withdrawing from others as he grieved. He started talking less, and rarely smiled. He started brooding about what happened to his sister—no one knows where she was, and her body was not found. Nightmare scenarios often played in his head, adding to his anguish and causing him to further withdraw from people. Of his family’s earthly possessions, the only thing he could salvage was an old red cloak his father used to wear.

Over the next two years, Rua and the other surviving militiamen safeguarded the survivors of Kakariko from sporadic raids from roaming Moblin patrols as they constantly tried to make the Western Caves habitable. Rua continued to train, his innocence lost and now ever wary of another attack from the cursed Moblins and Darknuts that had destroyed their homes in the first place. During this time, as the survivors of Kasuto and Saria arrived at the Western Caves, Ayls gave herself to Rua in an effort to comfort him, but while the effort was appreciated, it did little to soothe him, and he continued to withdraw from nearly everyone else. The relationship persisted regardless.

Over time, there were many more battles against patrols of Ganon’s forces, and during this time, Rua accumulated a fair share of scars, including two more adorning his face, complimenting the long one that ran down the side of it, and another gash across his forearm, when he had instinctively raised it up in defense against a Goriya’s slashing blade. The patrols grew less sporadic until they finally ceased. Despite the seeming peace, the people, out of fear, refused to attempt to set up a new town. Their fears were confirmed when word spread of how Ganon had laid siege on the Goron City, where the last resistance of Southern Hyrule lived. Hope grew for those trapped in the caverns as the news continually told of the Goron’s valiant defense of their mountain stronghold, and for three years, the Hylians grew hopeful that perhaps Ganon could be stopped, as he could not take down the hardy mountain-dwellers. That hope was lost when word of the Gorons’ defeat spread across the land, and many despaired, Rua included. Despite his ill feelings, he continued to help with the other militiamen to defend what was left. Rua took little comfort in the other rumor, the persisting rumor of a hero clad in green, struggling against the hordes of Ganon’s forces that had laid waste to Southern Hyrule. After all, how could one man stand against what an entire army had fallen to? However, Rua was among the very surprised when Ganon’s armies were suddenly quelled, when the hero, Link, climbed Death Mountain and fought a gigantic dragon on its slopes, and slew the fiery beast before the entrance of the fallen city of the Gorons. However, the monsters remained after Link entered Ganon’s citadel, and soon despair set back in as nothing changed—southern Hyrule was still a nightmarish hellhole.

As the new sanctuary was finally established, Rua’s thoughts turned back to his dead parents, and his lost sister. He knew he could not rest easily until he found out his little sister’s fate, and avenged his parents’ death—the memory of that colossal, canine brute cutting them down like wheat in the fields that bloody night had been seared into his mind, and he could not let go until that monster lied dead at his feet. He gathered some supplies, foodstuffs, and his weapon, and wished Ayls and his surviving friends goodbye before he set out from the underground lair, intent on finding the clues that would lead him to the fate of his sister, and to his ultimate revenge.

On his travels, Rua quickly found a way to sustain himself with rupees, as acting as a mercenary and bodyguard for hire for the few stragglers he found in the wilderness, and for those leaving the Western Caves on whatever expedition for supplies they needed—when he helped the random survivors he encountered, he often requested information on the whereabouts of a young, brown-haired girl from Kakariko, or any sightings on Darknuts and their movements and objectives. Sometimes he came across enemy encampments, and struggled to find a way around them, lest he be forced to sneak through them at night—while good, he was not the best swordsman, and he was no fool, knowing taking on a contingent of Moblins and Goriya would be suicide. He would frequently return to the Western Caves when he needed new supplies, and often stayed with Ayls during such visits, as despite Rua’s withdrawal from others, the two of them had maintained their physical relationship, and regardless of his attitude Ayls always welcomed him into her living space. Much to his frustration, Rua stayed well away from Death Mountain, despite his growing suspicions that he might find clues on the murderer of his parents on its craggy slopes.

His most recent employer came to him as an aging, heavyset alchemist by the name of Orup Mepple, who hired his services for a trek across the fields of southern Hyrule to a outpost that had recently come under attack from a small force of Ganon's minions. Though the trip proved uneventful both to and from the outpost, Rua proved himself to be a poor choice in a talkative companion for the alchemist. Despite this bad initial encounter between them, Rua accepted another job from Mepple when he sought out the source of the mysterious roots that were beginning to crop up within the furthest reaches of the Western Caves.

This next job proved to be far more eventful than the last, in which Rua was able to show Orup why he was considered an appropriate choice for a hired bodyguard. Things remained tense between them even when they found the mysterious plant that had been guarded by the criminals occupying the chambers. Nevertheless, an acceptance and some form of a fledgling friendship was forged between the two when Mepple chose to destroy the plant he had sought out in order to save Rua's life, and when Rua, in turn, showed him that the alchemist's initial goal had not been lost in its entirety. Others saw evidence of this bond when Rua approached him for aid when he was notified of an ambush on a pack of hunters by scouting goriya, and received that aid despite the alchemist being more inclined to stay indoors and work on his formulas.

Having Link fight a dragon is a bit iffy, but you made up for it with soup. Anyway, consider this character accepted. By my calculations, you should have five rupees left over, right?

Link fighting the dragon is an artifact from Song of Storms, which this sheet was derived from. But I'm pretty sure it was still mentioned in HC's history/backstory stuff. And for Rua, it's all hearsay anyway.

Yes, 5 rupees were left over. Didn't think I could buy anything else with that amount. >.>
