    Equipment:
Kayt utilizes a carved wooden staff gilded in gold designs on either end, and topped with a small round orb of green metal, also threaded in gold designs. She utilizes it as a focus for her magic. Beyond that, her studies necessitate owning a small library’s worth of tomes and scrolls, most of which she keeps within her chambers at her family’s residence in the city, taking only what she needs on her research expeditions.

    Appearance:
Kayt is a fairly attractive young Hylian woman, neither stunningly pretty, nor forgettable of face. Due to her studious nature, her face and overall complexion are pale, and she has reddish, almost magenta colored hair framing a face with almond-shaped eyes of blue-green, high cheekbones and a slim, pouting mouth. Her hair is long, tied back into a braid often worn over her shoulder, and held in place by a simple tiara woven through it, allowing room for her ears to push through, and from which a single blue gemstone hangs from her forehead, resting between her eyebrows. Her body is soft and slender, with a modest bust and slender hips, with very little in the way of muscle.

Due to her wealthy family’s upbringing, the attire she owns and wears are all of high quality crafting, dresses that are often made of silk and other fine materials, usually in softer or colder colors. She occasionally wears gold clasps in her braid, and two or three rings scattered on her fingers, and when outdoors in cooler weather, she wears a lavender-colored hooded cloak with woven designs running down it.

    Personality:
Kayt is a soft-spoken young woman that rarely ever raises her voice even in times of anger or distress. She is often seen as cool and collected by others, a product of her upbringing in a high-status family that groomed her for success. She is an avid learner, studious of nature and known to pick up on various subjects with ease, though application of what she learns has a various success rate. The woman is known to be a careful planner, and has been considered and approached by others for advisory positions in the city, though she refuses all such offers. She is often seen to be unhappy with her lot in life or with the state of things in the world, some even going as far as to say she was bitter, often commenting or questioning the cruelties of living and the unfairness in society. This morose nature has done much to keep potential suitors away, much to the chagrin of her success-oriented parents.

    Residence:
Her family’s estate in Castle Town, a more prosperous location than most civilians’.

    Pet:
Kayt has yet to acquire a familiar or pet of any kind.

    Backstory:
Kayt was born as a middle child into the Sharidan Family, a wealthy upper-class family in one of the richer districts closer to Hyrule Castle itself. She spent most of her childhood like most children, learning at school and playing with other children and occasionally getting into mischief, much to the chagrin of her parents. Her life as a youngster was blemished with only a single peculiarity: a penchant for suffering from disconcerting dreams and often frequent nightmares. This, however, did not strike her parents and her caretakers as something particularly worrisome, as many children are prone nightmares. As such, it was written off.

They were wealthy individuals with much of their focus on succeeding in society to bring more wealth and prestige to the family, and they often focused on their careers and positions in Hyrulean society, to the point where raising children on their own was much too troublesome and unfeasible. They relied on hired tutors and caretakers to provide their offspring with the necessary upbringing. As the children grew older, they had the caretakers begin grooming them for higher functions, teaching them various skills, teaching her to be conscious of herself and her surroundings, expanding her mind. However, as she grew more intelligent and older, Kayt’s dreams and nightmares were starting to become clearer, and more frightening—imagery of a kingdom failing into ruin, of lands covered by rushing expanses of water, of a world blanketed in unnatural darkness.

She had long learned to keep her dreams to herself, knowing it would do no good to bother her parents or siblings with them, despite how disturbing they became. However, she soon found solace as she met her tutor for the ways of magic, and elderly sage known as Carnithius Vern. Though known in society to be a notorious shut-in and possibly xenophobic, his magical knowledge and skill were second to none, and the man was quickly hired to teach her the arcane arts by her parents.

Wizened and experienced, the man was quick to offer support to the fledgling mage. With his positive influence, she began to excel at her studies. Frequently he took her on outings to ruins and sites of old Hyrulean history, exposing her to the world at large. They became experiences she did not expect, and would not be able to forget. She saw less-fortunate people stricken by hunger and disease and poverty. They had come across the aftermath of bandits’ handiwork, and the grisly remains of a moblin’s deserted campsite. The girl was beginning to realize just how different the real world is, and how fleeting life becomes.

After a couple of years had passed, Vern had successfully taught Kayt the underlying principles of magic and unlocked her ability to use her potential, but as a result, her nightmares soon begin to worsen. At first, Kayt had figured that it was perhaps because of her widened view of the world influencing it, but soon, the dreams became far more vivid than they should, and began to take their toll on the girl, keeping her up each night well until dawn. Her health worsened as a result, and she subsequently came down with a severe illness. It was only after the physicians that her parents brought in to heal her were unable to diagnose her ailments that Vern approached her with his own theories about her troubles. Without any other options left on the table, Kayt weakly divulged her continuing nightmares.

Instead of writing it off like her caretakers had in the past, Kayt learned from Carnithius Vern what it was that she was experiencing—visions of possible futures, influenced by the sad state of the world. It was at this point that Kayt’s life finally eased: while Vern set up a placebo therapy to ward off the concerns of her caretakers, in truth Kayt’s recovery was entirely thanks to the lifting of the burden of nightmares she never spoke of, of merely being able to understand what she is seeing, allowing her to sleep better at night and regain her full strength. As the sage helped Kayt learn magic and understand her nightly visions, the two of them grew close, with her seeing him as a father or grandfather she had never truly had.

As Kayt entered her teenage years, she began to pay more and more attention to current events—political unrest and rioting especially. And it was due to her mentor that she began paying more attention to these situations—with their trust in one another secure, Kayt was exposed to a side of Carnithius no one else ever got to see.

The man was unhappy with Hyrule. He found flaws in it where others took for granted: weaknesses in the ruling family, problems with the constantly maneuvering nobility, a glaring oversight in the stability of the kingdom itself. He would often discuss such events with his protégé, and in these times, Kayt could see and hear the bitterness in him. Here, the remarks she had heard him utter during their frequent research outings made more sense to her. And through her visions of the future, Carnithius began seeing a dangerous future approaching. But as the forces of darkness grew in strength over the years, Carnithius tried to play a more active role in readying an ignorant world, but the only person who truly believed his bitter words was the girl he had taken under his wing.

Kayt’s family grew concerned as they kept an eye on the two when Kayt’s travels with him began to happen more frequently. They suspected ill intentions, as Carnithius was a known shut-in, possibly lonely, and Kayt a fine girl coming into her prime. Her parents had no intention of letting the girl throw away her future on an ill-begotten, fleeting romance. But soon, their hired spies came across worse, as they viewed him during one of his rants to the girl on the state of the world.

Seeing it both as a chance to gain influence among the royalty, and concern for their magically-gifted offspring, Kayt’s parents continued to monitor the old sage and relay bits of news to important people. As Kayt entered the cusp of her adulthood, the Royal Family had heard enough of Carnithius’ doings. Seeing a danger that no one else did, they ordered his arrest. In a late night study session between him and Kayt, the royal guard burst into his lodgings. Having gone into a back room to retrieve some tomes, they never spotted the girl as they apprehended the man, but their voices and the ensuing scuffle alerted her to danger.

She heard scraps of their talk—of their reasoning for his arrest, of his rage at their interrupting his plans and schemes. The ensuing fight was short and brutal, ending when Carnithius was rendered unconscious and dragged away to the castle. It would be almost a year before she heard anything of her old teacher. On one particularly harsh winter, the man was removed from the dungeons, and publicly hanged for treason and suspected undermining of the government.

Shocked and horrified at the sudden upset in her life and the loss of her mentor, the woman was left listless and alone. She returned to her family, hiding everything but the surface of her distress from her caretakers. Within time, she calmed, but under the surface, the girl was left bitter and angry at the injustices—this, this could only be proof of the flaws that Carnithius had seen, had warned her of. The Royal Family had been afraid of the ideas the sage had spoken of, perhaps afraid of upsetting the fragile balance held within the kingdom already, after Ganon’s calamitous attack on the southern regions and his assault on Death Mountain. She knew the people were scared, but she knew that something had to be done. Her visions had shown the two of them that left alone, Hyrule was doomed to a destiny of sorrow, destruction, and despair.

As the years continued and a dreadful winter storm set in, Kayt returned to Vern’s lodgings, which now lay disused and abandoned. In her explorations, reminiscing on happier years, the woman came across a hidden cache in the man’s study. Knowing her mentor’s ways, it proved simple enough for her to access it. Within, she discovered the work he had kept secret from everyone, including her. It was incomplete, but within, she had seen enough—she had found what had scared the Royal Family so. And she saw that it was what Hyrule needed.

Kayt brooded there for several days, only returning to her own home with Vern’s research secured, when the storms began to worsen—while a great deal of Castle Town was in danger of the storm, her family’s wealth ensured safety within their estate, warmed with generous purchases of Lanayru Copper and other magically-powered heating apparatuses. Soon, she came to a decision—she was done mourning her mentor’s death. But she could not stay idle; she had realized that something needed to be done.

And now, she had an answer.

    Arcane Bolt (open)
    `Arcane Bolt
    aka: `Magic Bolt, `Magic Missile
    Canonical, Spell – Offensive
    [Electric][Projectile]

    W5: 20 rupees
    W4: 30 rupees
    W3: 45 rupees
    W2: 50 rupees
    W1: 65 rupees

The user swings or thrusts forward a weapon or other instrument, and unleashes from the tip a small and compact orb of magical energy comparable in size to a Goron’s fist, which shoots forward with velocity comparable to a fastball and force comparable to a strong punch. This ball of energy electrocutes its target for several seconds on impact before dissipating. The projectile can reach up to thirty feet before dissipating without hitting anything, and can only be fired once every thirty seconds.

However, this spell has an unfortunate side effect in that enchanted weaponry or magical defenses can reflect the ball back at its caster with a well-timed swing. The caster may launch it back using his or her own magic, but repeated deflections will speed up the velocity of the spell, and can result in the caster being struck and damaged by his or her own attack.

If the user has a Wisdom of at least 4: The ball of energy can be fired from the palm or mouth, rather than from an instrument.
