    Appearance:
Despite being of rather normal height and build for a Hylian man his age, Gabe’s appearance can be startling to those who meet him for the first time. He is albino, with snow white skin and hair, as well as a reddish brown tint to his irises. His hair is layered and trimmed to a length just below his earlobes, and unfortunately his skin bruises quite easily. Most startling, however, are his eyes, as the pupils appear to be filled with a greyish mist. This has a cause: Gabe has been totally blind ever since the day he was born. He lives his life in darkness, incapable of perceiving light, silhouettes, or movement. In his family home, he would often wear a blindfold so as not to make others uncomfortable, but ever since his departure he has refused to do so any longer.

Being blind and thus having little use for or interest in fashion, Gabriel dresses quite simply. He normally wears plain-cut clothes in a tan colour, satisfied to be dressed to match the weather and not wanting to risk catching too much attention. Over them, he wears a dark brown, hooded mantle, which forms a stark, sometimes startling, contrast with his pale skin and hair. Gabriel doesn’t seem to be aware of this. Around his waist, he carries some pouches- his wallet and a few for small things, although he will usually carry larger items in the basket he also has Lowen in.

Gabriel has learned to cope well with his blindness, relying on hearing and touch to know roughly where the people around him are. However, it is not perfect by any means, and as such he can often be seen walking into or tripping over inanimate objects he hadn’t spotted in time to avoid them. Sometimes, he will stiffen and grab hold of the first solid thing he can reach in order to stabilize himself and prevent him from falling over when a vision hits him mid-day; other times, he passes out for the duration of said vision.

    Personality:
At first glance, Gabriel might make a mystical, distant, and unapproachable impression on strangers, but the moment he opens his mouth, that image is dispelled. Gabriel is an agreeable person, eager to socialize and learn, and has a very mild temper; to date, no one has been able to catch him being angry or hateful. Rather, he is very patient and calm, as well as far more modest than the image most people have of nobles.

While Gabe is near impossible to anger, he does have another very strong emotion that he has little control over; fear. He is normally calm and relaxed, but seemingly random things can trigger him to panic inexplicably. He gives no reason for this, but a lot of people think that when this happens, he interprets the trigger as a sign that one of his more horrifying visions is upon them. However, he also tends to get jumpy and anxious when battles or situations don’t go according to plan in general, suggesting that he may just be a panicky person.

Despite his privileged and somewhat sheltered upbringing, Gabe is by no means unintelligent or naïve. He can read people pretty well, in no small part thanks to his sixth sense, and although his inability to see somewhat inhibits his observational skills, he is good at deducing and analyzing information. This makes him expert at deciphering and interpreting his visions, although there are people who are extremely confused on how a blind person can foresee much of anything…

    Background:
Gabriel was born as the only heir to House Clement, a small and relatively unknown noble house situated not far from Hyrule Castle Town. Aside from their riches, his parents were entirely normal, bearing none of his prophetic powers or discolouration. When Gabriel was born white-haired and pale-skinned, it was for this reason that people started whispering that Lady Clement had dabbled in dark magics, tainting the baby in the womb. Blissfully ignoring these, they kept him and cherished him.

Soon, they learned their son was blind as a bat, which only served to increase the people’s dislike of him. Some of Lady Clement’s friends cut off contact with her for fear of being contaminated with her taint, and Lord Clement lost at least a few valuable business partners, putting them into a financially significantly less favourable position. Still they would not abandon their son, although Lord Clement did begin to see the sense in those who said Gabriel brought misfortune. Lady Clement was ferocious in protecting her child, however, insisting that she had done nothing wrong and that more importantly, Gabriel had done nothing wrong.

Gabriel was blissfully unaware of all this, as his family adapted to his blindness and he adapted to a world where sight was normally necessary, his early childhood being peaceful and happy. He never learned how to read or write because of his disability, but his parents and servants read to him. Gabriel was eager to learn, even at an early age, and turned out to have a good memory for what was read to him. In addition, because of his poor hearing several of his other senses, such as his smell and his hearing, developed far better than those of normal people.

By the time Gabriel reached the age of fifteen, he was a normal lad aside from his blindness, and he had won the hearts of most of the people surrounding House Clement with his gentle nature. Most had dropped all notion of his disability and lack of colour being related to some crime against the goddesses or against nature, but not all. Still, life was calm and the village remained peaceful.

This changed on his fifteenth birthday, however. He showed up for breakfast as usual, although still rubbing his eyes and admitting he had not slept well. When his mother asked what had been the matter, he said that ‘grandmother is dead.’ Lord Clement soon dismissed this claim, as while his mother had been ill for a few weeks now there had been no indication of a worsening in her condition. Lady Clement asked more, and Gabriel said that he had dreamt a letter would arrive today informing them of the fact. He said it with a definitive certainty, as if the dream meant it was inarguably true. Both his parents told him dreams weren’t real and went on with their son’s birthday as usual.

However, that evening the letter Gabriel had dreamt of did arrive. His grandmother had suddenly worsened and passed away a few days ago. Lord Clement could only stare at his son for a few minutes, and then interrogated him on how he had known this, insisting that ‘I dreamt it’ was not enough. Gabriel could not explain how he had known this dream had been different than any other, only stating that it had felt far more real.

People surrounding them soon found out about this, and remembered the rumours from Gabriel’s early life. They came back in full force, demanding that the young heir be killed or at least thrown out of the village to protect it from the bad omens he brought. For a short while, Gabriel feared his father would listen to them and do just that, but despite his own doubts Lord Clement stood by his point; his son was not cursed nor a curse, and he would personally cut down anyone who tried to forcibly remove him from their custody.

It was at this point that Gabriel started to learn magic from his mother. Ironically, she was a gifted user of the powers of light, and they discovered that Gabriel had inherited her talents for protective spells. Since Gabe could not read, Lady Clement could only demonstrate the incantations and help him form the gestures required to cast the magic, but he was a swift learner. What she didn’t know was that her son continued to dream, sometimes of disturbing things and sometimes of happy ones. Nothing as significant as the death of his grandmother came of it, however, and he kept the dreams to himself, afraid to cause another outrage among the public. However, his family did notice a change in his mood as he became more sombre as time went on and he dreamt of more and more disasters. The dreams slowly started to grow heavier and weightier, and while Gabriel didn’t know what all of them meant, he almost constantly felt a sense of dread, most notably after waking up from one.

When he finally broke down and confided in his parents, they comforted him; they knew what his dreams were, Lady Clement having looked into the matter. Gabriel did not cause these things, he only predicted them. They had not told him for fear of upsetting him- between his blindness and his lack of colour, he was different enough as he was without being a prophet. What his increasingly bothersome dreams meant, they could not tell him, only that he didn’t have to worry about them. Nothing would happen to him, they would ensure that.

    Gabriel believed them.

    Until his twentieth birthday.

He’d been in the middle of descending the staircase on his way to the midday meal after practicing his magic on his own for a bit when it happened. A sudden dizziness took hold of him, making him nauseous and abruptly robbing him of the strength in his legs. He was caught too off-guard to grab the banister, so he ended up falling down a flight of stairs he had been ascending and descending without any sort of trouble for well over ten years now. His fall was heard by a pair of servants who found him unconscious and brought him to a lounge, where they put him down on a sofa and fetched his parents.

Gabriel was out cold for almost an hour, and when he regained his senses, his parents barely recognized him. He was in a wild panic, grasping his father’s arms tightly and shaking like a reed. He said that he had felt a terrible dread, a dark cloud would come to cover all of Hyrule –not just the South- and he didn’t know what exactly it was, but if it were allowed to fester there would be nothing left of Hyrule and Hyrulean society as they knew it.

    He had to leave.

They tried to keep him at home, telling him that again, he did not cause these things, but Gabriel was adamant- he had to do his part in preventing this dark cloud from spreading; that, too, he had foreseen. So he packed some belongings and gold, and left his childhood home, making for Hyrule Castle Town to begin a mission the nature of which he has not discussed with others.

This was well over a year ago, now. Gabriel still has visions, and tries to keep their contents largely to himself unless where dangerous, fearing retaliation like he had seen in his childhood. However, this is not always easy; after that first time, visions have come during the day more and more often, weakness grabbing hold of him and causing him to fall unconscious and go in trance without consideration for where he is or what he is doing at that moment. He has told no one but his parents the full contents of that one vision that changed his life, saying that all will be made clear when he reaches his goal… although at present, even he is still waiting for the vision that will reveal that goal in full.
