Lyon stared up at the glinting, black gem. Though as dark as obsidian, he could make out its shape in the dark of the night. He twisted his body, closer to the slivers of moonlight that cut through the window, pushing the furs of his makeshift bed to the side. The object fascinated him, never failing to bring rise to dark questions in his thoughts. The thing was not pleasant, no. Indeed, he'd tried many times to be rid of it, yet it would always return. Looking at it made his stomach churn, or the scar upon his chest burn with aches. But why? That was always the question, wasn't it?

When he'd awoken at the edge of the woods, he'd found himself surrounded by a small fortune of the things, and this tiny black one amongst the rest. He'd never had a reaction to any of the rest, so was this one somehow tied to his past? His mind may have forgotten, but his body certainly hadn't. Lyon scratched at the roped scar over his heart, massaging the tender skin. Just as curious were the voices he'd heard, ones he'd thought to simply be from an over active imagination. But the one he'd identified thus far, Sethra, clearly had a mind and will of its own. Was it a part of himself? Was Sethra simply a dysfunction of his brain?

I protest. The villain's voice hissed out. Lyon wasn't so sure, not when he could carry on a conversation with the voice, in the same way one might with their fellow man. There were others, too, beyond Sethra. But none were quite so prominent yet, and none had revealed their names to him, either. Lyon wondered if any of the others might be able to tell him more about himself: whenever he posed the question to Sethra, the creature grew strangely silent. Lyon couldn't help but feel that the snake was quietly laughing behind his silence. Perhaps that was another reason why Lyon had a hard time believing that Sethra was simply another part of himself: wouldn't he want Lyon to remember his past, if that were the case?

He let out a heavy sigh, letting his arm drop to his side. The rupoor, as it was called, chimed off the ground as it bounced against the hardwood. He didn't bother finding it in the dark: by the time he woke up, it would be returned to his pouch as always. Lyon shifted his body once more, before closing his eyes and drifting off into restless slumber.
