    Personal Information
    Appearance:
Elliot is a well-groomed and elegant Rito, betraying his high social status and material wealth upon a first glance. While well-fed, he shares a common characteristic with many other mages in that he is of very slight build, his frame unsuited for manual labour or hard battle. Physically, he’s not very strong, but his light bodyweight compensates for his relatively weak wings, meaning he can fly as easily as anyone else. Normally, Elliot assumes a fairly relaxed posture, but when under pressure –such as in battle or formal ocassions- he will tense up, straightening out his back and his legs.

While most male Ritos sport brown feathers and white hair, Elliot is different. Aside from his wings, most of his body is covered in lightly tanned feathers, similar to his kinsmen. His wings, instead, are stark white. His long, straight hair, however, is a light shade of blonde, worn in a low ponytail and kept at a length just below his shoulderblades. His eyes are a bright colour of blue, otherwise unremarkable, and his beak is marked with a line of black where it connects to his face. On his left wrist, just under the mouse of his hand, Elliot bears what appear to be little tattoos in faded ink. One of them is the silhouette of a bat, while the other has less of a discernible shape and Elliot swears it’s a ChuChu.

While Elliot owns a set of ground-length, formal robes decorated with symbols of historical significance, he doesn’t usually wear them outside of formal occasions as he finds them too restrictive and stuffy. Instead, he normally wears a short-sleeved and almost knee-length tunic, alongside a pair of plain trousers; more reminiscent of commoner’s wear, if not for the fine white fabrics and the detailed golden embroidering on the hems. He wears a belt around his middle, holding a pouch that contains his magic crystals on one side and his wallet on the other.

    Personality:
As a representative of Dragon Roost Island, Elliot has been educated and trained in formality and courtesy, and the effort has paid off: he is a polite, eloquent and well-mannered man, well-liked by most of his peers. This is helped by his mild temper, as Elliot can stomach a lot of abuse without retaliation or change in his behavior. This applies to combat and stressful situations as well as formal ones. It’s rare the occasion that Elliot loses his patience.

However, there is a drawback to this charming nature; namely, the fact that Elliot is very well aware of this and uses it to his advantage when faced with the fairer sex. He is well-known for his outrageously flirtatious nature, and enjoys female company far more than he cares to admit. To his credit, Elliot respects the boundaries of these women and will stop when asked or when informed that his conversational partner is in a relationship. Even so, should things turn sour and dangerous, he will place any woman’s safety above his own.

It may be easy to think Elliot is a fool and a dandy because of this, but nothing is less true- aside from his classes in history, etiquette, and diplomacy, Elliot has dedicated himself to the art of summoning. Due to the difficulties he has been faced with, he’s had to study much, and as a result of that, he is very knowledgeable on both magic and monsters; he wouldn’t trust himself to find a city in Hyrule without a guide, but he can certainly identify most types of monsters and how to defeat them. In addition, his desperate need to be useful has pushed him to strategy, for which he has a real knack, and he is capable of quickly coming up with a solution to most problems. Many have been surprised by the Rito Prince’s cleverness; and he relishes it.

He needs it, for beneath the surface, Elliot is a little insecure. As the youngest son of the Chieftain, he can’t even pretend to be a ‘failsafe’ in case something were to happen to his eldest brother- that’s what their middle brother is for. Knowing that he’s not significant in this position, he feels a strong need to be useful and important elsewhere. This is why he is so dedicated to his studies, and in fact to anything he decides to tackle. His progress in summoning seems to boost his confidence, but only marginally; he knows the limited nature of his magic means he’s less versatile than most mages and cannot be as aggressive in a combat situation. At least he is self-aware, though.

    Story
    Story:
It’s not an uncommon practice for people in high functions, passed from father to son, to have multiple children in order to secure their position for their family. The Chieftain of the Rito tribe is no exception, with three sons of whom Elliot is the youngest. Being the youngest, he was always his mother’s favourite, getting away with much more mischief than the older two did. As the youngest of three, it’s a safe bet that Elliot will never become Chieftain himself, but that hasn’t kept him from a privileged upbringing. Provided with a good education, a loving family, and all the material wealth he could wish for, Elliot’s childhood was peaceful and happy, if a little sheltered.

Rito aren’t immediately associated with magic, and for good reason; great mages are rare among the bird-like people. However, at an early age Elliot discovered he had an aptitude for it, being able to conjure little things out of thin air, even if they weren’t very stable. Knowing that magic can be a destructive force if unchecked and untrained, his father arranged for an experienced and skilled wizard to instruct him. This wizard specialized in the art of summoning, creating sentient and yet subservient monsters out of thin air, which fascinated Elliot.

With practice, the prince learnt to shape magic into spells that would serve his purpose, but during their sessions, they learnt that Elliot suffered a detrimental flaw: extracting the magic power he needed to cast spells from his body was incredibly difficult for him. With concentration, devotion, and, according to the summoner, an impressive lack of regard for the self, Elliot could draw it out of himself and mold it, but it was a painful and slow process, making the summoner uneasy to continue; an understandable sentiment, as no one wants to be responsible for the death or permanent injury –be it physical or mental- of the Chieftain’s child. Still, Elliot convinced him to continue for a little while longer, and dismissed him once he had learned and mastered the spell used to summon a Keese; a safe, easy-to-summon and largely harmless creature. When Elliot showed him the marking, resembling a bat, that had appeared on his wrist, the summoner told him it was a mark indicating the monsters he had at his disposal and that it meant he could now safely use the spell on his own.

With his mentor unable to help him, it fell to Elliot to find a solution if he wanted to continue on the path of the summoner, which he did. He spent a lot of his time travelling back and forth between Dragon Roost Island and libraries and sorcerers on the mainland, in search of that one book or idea that would spark something. And he found it; first, a newly acquired tome in his own home library described the catalysts some mages used to facilitate and speed up casting. While the idea of using wands and staves wasn’t new to Elliot, the wording in this particular section made him curious, and he gave them another shot.

While using a staff to cast spells did work, making the process slightly less painful and time-consuming, Elliot did not consider this a victory. He knew by now that once his magic power was outside of him, molding and casting came naturally and easily- he was good at casting, he just struggled with the components. Unhappy with a partial victory, he dug deeper into the libraries of Hyrule.

Inspiration struck when a tome went in-depth on the workings of Green Potion and Magic Jars. It spoke of the items as containers for pure magic power, which would wash over the consumer’s own when imbibed, and thus multiplied the remaining power the consumer had. Elliot didn’t care for the details of what the potion did once inside the body, but he did perform a close, critical reading of the part where pure magic power had been stored in containers, outside of a source. Finishing it, he decided it was possible- he could drag his magic out of himself beforehand, store it in a container, and use it when needed. If he did that, he could cast spells as quickly and as painlessly as any other mage.

The search for suitable containers began.

…and to be fair, to this day has not ended. While Elliot has discovered ways of hollowing out and converting blue rupees to a shape he can throw easily and that he can channel his will into in order to make the magic power within react, these crystals are very expensive catalysts to make in great amounts, and he is still tweaking the amount of power he can put into one crystal without wasting any upon casting. Still, using them causes him no discomfort and doesn’t delay the cast, so for the moment, they will have to suffice.

Knowing that his dependency on his crystals affects his versatility, aggression, and usefulness as a spellcaster, Elliot has taken up a secondary study in strategy and discovered he has a fair knack for it; even when debating the cost-benefit of using a crystal to cast a single spell, Elliot can make himself useful to groups by his intellect, analytical skill, and resulting ability to find solutions to most problems and challenges quickly.

However, despite the travelling he likes to do, Elliot’s home is still Dragon Roost Island, where he still lives to this day. So, it is only natural that when Lord Valoo fell prey to an inexplicable and unstoppable rage, he volunteered for the task of investigating the cause and doing what he could to relieve the Spirit of the Skies. Accompanied by an archer of his own choosing, he reported to Veran to receive protection from the sweltering heat in the volcano, and descended; finding a dungeon-like structure that hindered him and Naomi from progressing quickly. Eventually, they discovered that an enormous, lava-like ape had been tormenting the Dragon, and bundling their powers, they succeeded in incapacitating it. Immediately after that, however, Lord Valoo caused a landslide, blocking off the cavern and forcing the two to flee. Elliot knows he cannot be perfectly certain that Magmape, who had threatened Dragon Roost Island so, is now dead… but if not dead, he is at least buried alive.

Like I said before, BP, I like it. I especially liked how you worked in the meta-game cost into the in-game spell mechanics; very nice.
