    Name: Constance (Connie)Page

    Age: 19

    Gender/Sex: Female

Appearance: Constance is a fairly slender girl. Her long, rich brown hair flows along her back, stopping just above her waist. She has a pale, clear complexion with pure blue eyes. Constance usually has an air of serenity around her, further enforced by her frequent smiling.

Ever since the need for more practical clothing has arisen, Constance usually wears a light brown mod dress, the lower half of which is fastened with a leather belt. To cover her lower legs she sports cream leggings with functional ankle-hugging cloth boots. A white headband crafted into the shape of linked flowers (a keepsake from her mother) keeps her fringe out of her face.

    Personality:
Constance is always thankful for what she has, and never finds herself wanting to improve her situation, except for her ability to assist others. She is also quite the optimist when people need comforting. Sometimes she isn’t as fierce as she needs to be, but if she can prevent harm from befalling someone, she will do all within her power to keep them safe. Constance believes in putting others before herself; the prime reason why she decided to become a Demon Buster. She isn’t one for taking risks, and prefers controlled situations where she can predict the outcome. Information and knowledge are important to her.

Backstory: Having never known a life before the catastrophes that drove mankind underground, Constance’s birth was a very carefully planned event. Her parents, who had survived the migration, didn’t want any child of theirs to be brought up in such a war-like era. However, there was pressure in the Homes for children to be born; the population has been decimated. Eventually, Henry and Melanie Page decided to try for a child, both wanting something to bolster their will to live.

When Constance was born, she had the desired effect. Her parents cherished her dearly, never again regretting their choice. Melanie always became tearful when her daughter showed such inner strength; when the knowledge of their troubled existence didn’t upset her. Constance grew up quickly and quietly, becoming the very image of hope that her parents had sought to create. Before the destruction, Melanie had been a teacher, and she endeavoured to tutor her daughter, along with the other children in their Home as best as she could, even with limited learning resources. She was pleased that her daughter seemed to have inherited her broad intellect.

Henry had been a humble gardener, and managed to create a small plot in a narrow dug-out just outside of the underground Home. The earth was rich, which compensated for the compromise of artificial light that was used to grow his plants. He was glad that he could keep the spirit of nature alive, even in such dark times. Henry would often grow flowers for the children’s birthdays, seeing as there weren’t many other ways to celebrate.

The Page family were not interested in the Demon Busters, and weren’t conscripted due to the services that they provided in the home. Constance held the same view as her parents, but it was made clear on several occasions that even if she was interested, they would never allow her to put herself in such danger. She had never even had any real encounters with demons. Being studious, she had been taught by her mother about the origins of demons, which Melanie had learned during their time in the Home.

One evening, Constance was quietly reading her mother’s treasured copy of ‘Princess’, a play that Melanie had studied for her teacher’s degree, when she felt a faint tingle in the back of her mind, almost like a whisper.

    Constance…

It was a whisper! But she didn’t recognise the childish voice. It was fairly late; all the children had gone to bed. Carefully closing the book, Constance left her family’s quarters.

    Constance… Constance?

Intrigued, She followed the whispers, growing ever more interesting, almost enchanting the further she travelled. She encountered nobody as she wandered the corridors; the only thing compelling her forward being her name on those unknown lips.

She was barely aware that she had arrived at her father’s plantation; the metal walls of the home ending, leaving walls of earth in its wake. Constance stepped forwards, her name becoming a chime, ringing back and forth in her head, mesmerizing. She didn’t see the Pixies behind her. Entranced by their voices, she didn’t hear the fluttering of their wings as they surrounded her.

Next she knew, Constance couldn’t move. Her limbs went rigid, the only movement available in her eyes.

“Constance, Constance!” The Pixies cheered, their high pitched giggles paining her eardrums.

“She’s pretty for a human.” One Pixie said, hovering inches from her face. Panic pumped through her in tandem with her swift heartbeat.
“Really long hair, too!” Another shrieked, gripping her long locks before tugging them. Constance couldn’t move her mouth, but the pain surged through her scalp.

“I think she’s too pretty to sacrifice, girls.” A slightly calmer Pixie voiced, her tiny arms folded.

“But there’s nobody prettier than us, demon or human!” The one in front of her face said, outraged.

“I didn’t say she was. But she’s cute! It’d be a shame to waste her. She stays.”

The Pixies whined a little, but released Constance from their spell.
“Please don’t run, we were only playing!” All of them had smiles like mischievous children.

“You are demons, I cannot trust you.” Constance replied. As she turned to leave, a Pixie darted in front of her.

“We’re more fairies than demons, wouldn’t you agree?” As if to enforce her point, the fairy curled up her body and pouted.

Constance considered this for a moment. If the Pixies wanted to ‘sacrifice’ her, there was nothing she could do to stop them, short of calling for help.

“…Yes, I suppose so.” They seemed to be willing to ‘not’ sacrifice her, so Constance thought it was only fair she give them the same kind of courtesy. “What are you doing here?”

“We like flowers, and they’re hard to find up there.” One Pixie said, moving to plant herself on one of the larger plants.

“And the only way to keep those meanies happy is to find human sacrifices. Otherwise they sacrifice us!” They all seemed genuinely terrified. “Do you think we could live here?”

    “I doubt it… Humans and… demons aren’t exactly friendly.”

    “But you seem really nice!”

    “And pretty!”

Constance found herself sitting down amongst her father’s flowers with the Pixies, who soon were delighted by her company. She told them many things about living in the Home and they were fascinated. It wasn’t until her father arrived that the peace was disturbed. Seeing his beloved daughter surrounded by demons sent him into a flurry.

“Demons, Demons!!” He wailed. Constance stood to prevent her father from trampling the flowers that held the Pixies.

“Father, they’re harmless!” She decided not to tell him that they planned to sacrifice her. Moments later Henry’s outburst had brought many to the scene, leaving Constance and the Pixies cornered. After a long discussion, during which the Pixies remained silent with the exception of their leader, they were deemed safe.

“So they make you steal away humans?” One of the local Demon Busters asked.

“Yes, otherwise we pay the price. It’s tough.” The lead Pixie said.

“Well, I’m afraid you can’t stay here. They might follow you here.” The Demon Buster’s words caused the Pixies to whine and weep.

“You could however, become tame and work for us.” This caused another array of noises, but the lead Pixie spoke above them.

“I will, on the condition that Constance is my tamer.”

“But she’s not a-“ Henry began, but was soon cut off by his daughter.

    “I’ll do it.”

Her agreement shocked everyone. Gentle, caring Constance, a Demon Buster?

On the promise that they would one day be reunited, the lead Pixie said goodbye to her fellow fairies, who reluctantly left the Home. From that day forth, Constance trained to become a Demon Buster, becoming accustomed to the COMP so that her Pixie friend could truly become her ally in the fight against Demonkind.
