He had turned around just in time to see his charge being shot in the leg. She didn't scream, in an admirable display of courage, strength, or foolishness, but he saw her reaching for her injured leg and losing her balance. While the hooves of Leonard's horse banged on the ground loudly as he rode over to the tree the arrow had come from and threw his spear in, Lawrence ran towards Lilithe more quickly and dropped his sword, using two hands to catch her by her shoulders.

He had not seen her fight, but from the smoke that was just dissipating, he could tell she had at least killed one Risen. "I apologize, my lady," he said, helping her stand despite her bad leg. He looked at it, cursing himself for not having brought anyone with experience in healing staves. "We'll have to leave that arrow in for now," he said, although he was a lot less confident than he had been in combat matters. "I have something to treat the wound with, but it will have to wait until we're not besieged from all sides."

He had barely finished speaking when a particularly loud groan drew his attention. Off to the side of the clearing, opposite to the side where Leonard picked up his spear after killing the archer that had shot Lilithe, a Risen in tattered robes shambled out of the forest clutching a yellowed tome. It looked to be much more sturdy than any of the others they had fought, and Lawrence swallowed, picking up his sword and gently pulling Lilithe back with him as he created distance between himself and the spellcaster.

The lord of Everett was quick to catch her from falling, it was also unexpected that he'd go as far as throwing away his weapon to do such meaningless thing. It was not that she didn't feel appreciated, she just thought that he should focus on the enemies instead of concerning her cheap life. Others seemed to be having problem fighting this risen group, it was as though these undead was a bit more intelligent than ordinary.

Once of the magic type was approaching her and the noble protector, its mouth was moving as though the spell was being cast. Even though her leg was throbbing, Lilithe focused her spell more than the injury.

When the dead sage threw a fire ball to burn them alive, the black mistress summoned from the ground a thin layer of barrier that was made of water. As it hit the water field, the fire ball lost its power, and only a small portion got through Lilithe's weak barrier. That was far from being fatal. The risen made another attempt to hole the barrier, but it didn't work so well.

"I'll try to hold this one as long as I can, please seek the opportunity to strike back before this thing break." The witch knight said as she focused on maintaining her defensive spell. It was easy to cast at first, but the difficult part was to balance mana. She glanced at the wound that the arrow was still stuck there, worrying if it was turning bad. "Also, do not worry about me if you need to dash away."

The Risen Mage laughs in a mocking inhuman voice it's red spell book opening again as rings of orange light runes circle the Mage as another fireball begins to develop. Roaring again Jacob rises and runs towards the Mage, Mjolnir at the ready.

With a wave of it's horribly necrotic hand the Risen launches the fire ball at Jacob. Jacob tries, but fails to dodge the fireball, but it isn't a direct hit. Just a glancing blow hitting Jacob's left shoulder pauldron blowing it off and scorching Jacob's arm below it. Wheeling back a bit to the left Jacob uses this to give his hammer more momentum. Mjolnir meets the undead's head with a loud crack and ripping of weakened skin and muscle knocking the head clean off.

Using Mjolnir as a brace Jacob kneels down digging around his armor for a small blue vial. After finding it a smirk crosses Jacob's face and six arrows pelt Jacob's armor bouncing off harmlessly. Downing the contents of the vial Jacob's wounds start healing up and his strength returns to him. Jacob then begins systematically launching lightning bolts at the trees trying to hit the hidden archers.

"I will not abandon a woman," Lawrence simply said, although he did let go of Lilithe. Right now, the spellcaster Risen was a higher priority. He had trained with Everett mages before, but none of this apparent level. Still, if his training were any indicator, he had to strike quickly, both to interrupt the Risen's incantation and because Lilithe would not be able to hold up the shield for too much longer.

As the second fireball breached the shield, Lawrence took his chance. He dove forward, abandoning the protection of Lilithe's own magic, and added his left hand to his right around the hilt of his sword as he no longer needed to support the black-haired woman. Unsurprisingly, the Risen had already started another incantation and swung its hand towards him, but Lawrence thought he saw a cue and dodged to one side- only to learn he'd read the cue wrong, and that he'd dodged into the fireball rather than away from it.

With a shout of pain, and in a trained reflex, he brought his sword up to strike the undead, but it dodged almost effortlessly. The lord groaned, grabbing hold of his scorched right shoulder with his left hand, but refusing to let go of his sword. Naga almighty, what he wouldn't give for a healer right now. No, he told himself, shaking his head, focus on the battle. If you don't focus on the pain, it won't be as bad.

Taking his own advice, he lashed out once more, this time connecting his sword with the wrist that was holding the Risen's tome. He sliced through the rotten flesh rather easily, but a bony leg came up and kicked the tome, sending it flying back up and letting the Risen grab it with its other hand. "Oh, come on." Knowing he couldn't afford a breather, Lawrence pressed forward once more, this time attempting to hack at the Risen's waist. "Give a guy a break..."

As Lawrence rushed out to end the sage risen, Lilithe glanced aside a little to see whether the other group was holding the foes up alright. She saw that they were mostly on the advantage side, as those arrows seemed ineffective against the armored noble, like how it pained her now. She checked at the wound at her thigh, the arrow still stuck right there, the pain was...getting worse.

Lilithe figured that what she needed now was draining effect of her dark magic, though she had to be low profile on using such spell not to do it openly. If there was a witness, she might be branded heretic by these Ylissian, and then probably killed. The only way was to craft a new anima spell that somehow associated with that dark essence.

Then, the dark mistress began casting, her eyes focused on the magic type, whom Lawrence was keeping its one hand full. She waited until made her an opening, by slashing the thing's waist, that was when the new spell was activated.

Three ice spikes shot out from the ground, piercing at the risen's body. One was a miss, one hit directly at the thing's stomach, and the last one holed the tome through. After that, the ice quickly froze the risen mage that it was unable to move, while its life force was being transferred to the caster, Lilithe. When she noticed that her injury was being healed, the dark mistress carefully pulled out the arrow, wincing a bit, and allowed the healing effect to work at full potential.

Not for long, the pain ceased, the wound disappeared from her body, leaving only bloodstain over her skin and cloth.

"Alright come on ya bastards!" Jacob gets pelted with more arrows. three bounce off his armor harmlessly, but one manages to stick in the lord's shoulder. Reeling a bit Jacob fires a bolt of lightning into the trees. A Risen archer falls out of the tree before disappearing in a puff of purple smoke.

Ignoring the arrow in his arm Jacob fires again into the trees. More arrows come from the trees. Two direct hits to his shoulder. Now with three arrows in his shoulder Jacob grunts and bears his teeth. Seeing a bit of an Archer through the leaves Jacob throws his hammer into the tree. The hammer hits knocking the archer out of the tree. Seeing his opportunity Jacob charges forward and grapples the Archer. Getting a good hold the Risen has no chance of escaping. Smirking Jacob suplexes the Risen. Snapping bone and tearing skin sound as the Risen's neck snaps making contact with the ground.

Groans sound from the Risen as Jacob rolls over top of it before Jacob begins punching the Risen violently. After several blows Jacob wraps his hand around the Risen's head. Picking it up Jacob spits in it's face before slamming it into the ground shattering the weakened bone and near pulping it's head. Again the Risen disappears in purple smoke.

Still in the woods, Blake examined the battlefield. The enemy ranks were quickly thinning. A nearby archer caught his attention. The archer pulled back the bowstring, ready to fire an arrow off. Blake ran for it as fast as he could, aiming to stop it before it fired at anyone. He made a hit, but it wasn't a clean strike. He did however, disrupt its aim, and cause it to shoot the ground harmlessly instead. The risen turned towards Blake, clearly annoyed, and attempted to defend itself despite how close it was, but there was little it could do at this distance and was quickly silenced for good with another slash.

Blake looked around him. He didn't hear or see anything else. Could it be that they were gone? He peeked into the clearing cautiously. There didn't appear to be any risen. Blake stepped out of the trees into the clearing. "Are they gone?" He asked to no one in particular. He was a bit dirty from fighting in the woods, but overall, not seriously injured.

Lawrence failed to connect his sword cleanly with the Risen, but the glancing blow he struck forced it to dodge to a side. The noble was prepared to follow up with a swifter strike to the sternum now that he had space to maneuver, but it appeared Lilithe was faster, skewering it on an icicle and finishing it off.

Around the same time, Blake returned from the forest, where he might have held off Naga knew how many other Risen, and Lord Temple finished up cleaning out the remaining ones. Lawrence sheathed his blade, looking around the clearing to see Leonard walk towards him, holding the reins to both their horses in one hand and Lilithe's in the other. Apparently, after killing the archer that he had, he had taken the horses into the shade of the trees to ensure they couldn't get far.

"Is everyone accounted for?" Lawrence asked, turning around to Lilithe, whose leg still had to be seen to. "Leonard, I need that concoction." As he walked in the direction of the mage who had helped him take out the apparent leader of the bunch. "Milady, if you'll allow me-" he had already kneeled on front of Lilithe to draw the arrow out when he saw that not only was the arrow gone, so was the wound. Huh. Had he been imagining things? Suppressing the urge to scratch his head in confusion, he decided that she had probably treated it already herself, although he had seen no healing salves on her.

Taking the concoction from Leonard, he opened it and mentally prepared himself. He couldn't very well take off his armor and his tunic to apply the medicinal substance. Not only was it terribly inconvenient and would it take time, it would be quite inappropriate in front of Lilithe. Fortunately this particular solution could be taken orally as well, albeit not entirely free of spite... Here goes, he thought, as he set the bottle to his lips and took a quick swig of the contents.

A shiver went down his back as he forced the bitter, thick liquid down his throat, and he shook his head once, as if that would get the taste out of his mouth. "We need to find a better way to do this," he said to Leonard as he punched the cork back into the bottle and handed it back to the knight. "Is anyone else injured?"

Lilithe knelt down as well after lord Everett did, for her not deserving such gesture from this Ylissian noble. She also noticed he had realized about her leg wound being healed. The only way to cover that her spell was associated with Grimle was to say false word, of which she hated even more than anything.

"Please forgive me, Lord Evertt. I had actually learn some healing spell, though my lowly self is still too inexperienced to heal other, or it may multiply their pain." She bowed, and it was almost as though she was taking a step back to do a polite curtsy. "I'm aware I made you worried, so...for that, please accept my apology."

The dark mistress then realized she could still use the medicine for another cut on her arm. However, when she was about to ask for the medicine, she saw that the lord was already drinking it. Now she decided there was no way for her to use it without feeling even guiltier. She shook her head a bit before she turned to others. When she was noticed by Lawrence, that she was going to say something, Lilithe quickly converted her message.

"It appeared your friend, Lord Temple, needs some of that medicine." She opened her hand to the armored injury, while hiding the wounded arm at her back.

Everyone seemed to be alive, though the one who needed a solution the most might be the other lord. She witnessed his furious fight and it wouldn't surprise her if it turned out he was slain. She figured he really made use of that armor suit very well. Others, including Blake, seemed to be fine.

"Thank you for taking care of this child, Sir." Taking back the rein of her rental horse, Lilithe thanked the man who looked after it. She expected that the coward steed would already run far if someone didn't calm it. She patted the horse a little in order to make it ready for being ridden again.

Still, a question still lingered in her mind, how did the risen appear near them and why?

Scanning the area Jacob walks towards Mjolnir his shoulder throbbing three arrows still lodged in it. "Where tha hell's Sentinel?" Not mere seconds after saying that Jacob hears the familiar sound of heavy armored boots.

Sentinel walks back into the clearing. She scans the area before seeing Jacob with three arrows in his shoulder. Her helmet hiding the shock on her face she runs over to Jacob. Throwing down her lance and shield she looks over Jacob's shoulder.

No sooner had Jacob picked up Mjolnir than Sentinel had grabbed him and was looking at his shoulder. "Yeah a mage blasted off ma shoulder AHHHH!" Jacob yells as Sentinel tears the arrows out. Two were barbed tipped arrows the third a normal head. Because of his General Jacob's shoulder is torn all to pieces. "Sunofa- Sentinel! Tha hell?" The general pulls out a vial of elixir and pours it on Jacob's shoulder healing it up fully. "Do that again an' I'll have ya court marshaled."

Lilithe pointed out that Lord Temple was injured, but by the time Lawrence had turned in his direction, the taller noble had already been brutally treated by his retainer. "Not anymore, I see," the blue-haired swordsman said, chuckling under his breath and shaking his head in amusement. Lord Temple was well-known to be tough enough that it'd take more than three arrows to kill him. After placing the vial into his saddlebag, he took Guinevere's reins from Leonard, patting her neck and running his hand through her manes shortly. He then turned to his companions.

"Leonard, Sentinel, Blake. You've all been deeper in the woods than we have... did any of you see anything unusual? Anything that didn't belong in a forest, other than ourselves?" He frowned, thinking. "Those numbers were ridiculous. I can't believe those were Risen just randomly wandering around and happening to run into us."

The lord didn't respond to her apology at all, or he probably didn't think much about it from the start. Though that left Lilithe to decide be herself, which she obviously thought of the worst one automatically. She was probably hated by now for being such a selfish liar. It was better to part way with them as soon as the chance provided.

The dark mistress drew her slim sword to clean it once before putting back. She readied her horse and made sure that it was good to go.

Although she concerned about the risen that appeared just now, she didn't consider about seeking its objective. Those evil being never made any sense to her from the start, she doubted if they ambushed the group in order to assassinate these nobles. It would be good to resume her journey to Ylistol. The sooner she get to her destination, the better.

Still, for being an absolute pessimistic person, she had some assumptions that said someone was controlling these undead. How scary would that be?

Jacob gives Sentinel a solid punch to Sentinel's chest piece. "Thank ya Sentinel." The lord checks his armor getting a good look at the damage. "This sure as hell ain't good. 'Ey Lawrence ya know any blacksmiths 'round 'ere? Eh. Nevermind. Ain't got time."

Sentinel takes the hit appearing not to be phased. Under her helmet she winces. She retrieves her lance and shield. Cracking her neck a few times the general stands at attention next to Jacob.

"Alright. How far ta tha capital Sir Leonard? Da ya know?"

"Ylisstol is still at least a day's travel from here," Leonard answered Lord Temple, before turning to Lawrence. "My lord, I understand your concerns, but I fear we will have to leave the woods for what they are at the moment."

Lawrence wanted to protest, but kept his mouth shut until he had thought both options over. It was true, there were only few of them... if an even bigger group of Risen were to lay in wait, he could be leading the group to their deaths. Moreso if there was an infinite, quickly-renewing supply of them... One of their number was a woman who had nothing to do with this mess, and Lawrence had no desire to indirectly murder not one but two lords of Ylisse. "Very well," he said, patting Guinevere's neck before pulling himself up by the saddle and swinging his leg over her back, turning her around to face the others.

"The risks are too numerous and the stakes too high," he summarized. "We'll report this incident to His Highness once we arrive," he continued towards Lord Temple. "Please help me remember that." Then, he turned to Lilithe. "I apologize for the delay, milady, as well as for the injuries you have taken in the process. Regardless, would you allow us to escort you?"

"Please do not concern about my minor injury, milord." Lilithe shook her head lightly. As time passed, she felt that her injury was healing already, she will be back to her full condition soon.

To answer the other question, the female dark knight had to put her mind together, thinking. It appeared that these people were going to be presented with their king, which could trouble her if she was to be with them. There could be some people in the army that was able to point her out as a grimleal. That could be the end of her life. Somehow, she had to refuse this.

"However, I'm afraid I couldn't ask that much of your support. If you are fine with it, I plan to part as soon as we reach the main road." The dark mistress bowed politely, once to each lord. She thought a little of what she should say in order to decline Lawrence's offer. She wondered if they were going to accept her refusal, but it could worth a try. "Once I know that you need to report this to high authority in order to prevent this country from this mysterious danger, I shall not slow you down by burdening you."

"Well we ain't too far from one o' ma Knight outposts. I could get ya an escort at tha very least. Ain't right leavin' a woman ta fend fer 'erself when those Risen bastards 're runnin' 'round. No offense meant o' course Ms. Lilithe. I ain't doubtin' yer abilities. Just better safe than sorry." Jacob turns his attention to his fellow lord. "I'll remind ya if I remember." Smiling and laughing Jacob points his hammer forward and Sentinel gets the message and begins to march towards where Jacob points.

"I must ask you to reconsider," Lawrence began, "there might be more of these things on the road..." a gesture from Leonard shut him up, though. It was one thing to want to protect a lady, but forcing one's presence upon her was something different altogether. "Very well. We will escort you back to the main road, where we can give you directions to your destination."

A soft, barely audible creaking of leather and a 'thud' behind him indicated that Leonard had mounted his steed again, so Lawrence shortened his reins, prompting Guinevere to become alert. Sentinel had already started marching, but Lawrence waited until Lilithe was ready to leave as well before he prodded his steed forwards. "Know, however, that you are no burden."

Leonard, in the meanwhile, rode forward to catch up with Lord Temple. "Your Grace," he said, in hopes of catching the noble's attention. "One of those Risen... I hate to pry, but I could not help but notice at least one of them bore Temple colors. Do you have a garrison situated nearby these woods?"

"Thank you for your understanding, Lord Everett." The Plegian mistress bowed her head once again. She turned to Leonard, being little curious of his earlier action, and gave him a thankful nod. Whether he realized her objective or not, the man did help her achieving it. She was not sure if she can resist if both lords tried to convince her at the same time.

Lilithe climbed over the calmed horse and prepared to resume her trip, she turned to others and kicked her steed a little to get moving. After a while of riding, Leonard sped up his horse a bit to catch up with Lord Temple to have a word with him. She wondered by little of what they were talking about, could it be that they were suspecting her? No...that probably was not the case.

Jacob turns to the mounted knight and retainer of Lawrence as he tries to get the armor lord's attention. As the knight says 'your grace' Jacob smiles a bit and chuckles. "We're both military men yeah? Ya ain't gotta call me that. Anyways yeah I do got some outposts 'round 'ere. Still in ma lands after all. Thing is, I ain't lost a single troop since gettin' ma boys outta Plegia durin' tha war 'bout 15 years ago. I get reports from all ma knight's outposts four times a month. Not a single one o' ma troops unaccounted fer." Jacob strokes his chin then rather loudly says, "If I found out is was a damn Plegian that did that I'll gut 'em." The lord realizes what he said after saying it and gets a bit of a surprised look. "Sorry 'bout that."

Lawrence overheard Lord Temple and Leonard's conversation, speeding up just enough to not abandon Lilithe, but still catching up enough that he didn't have to shout to make himself audible to the two. "You have an outpost nearby? That is reassuring to hear. Leonard, please take Sir Sentinel and ride out to the garrison and warn them of the presence of the Risen there." When his knight turned to give his lord a questioning look, Lawrence shook his head. "I have no desire to detain Lady Lilithe from her path any longer. While you deliver the message to the garrison, Lord Temple and I will continue on our way. I trust you can find your way to the capital by yourself?"

"Naturally, my lord," Leonard said. "However, I must question this course of action. Sentinel and I are trained knights- we could defend ourselves from new Risen if they were to attack us. But what about you? It would be only you, Lord Temple, and Lady Lilithe."

"A valid point..." Lawrence pondered. "Still, I don't feel comfortable leaving Lord Temple's men unalerted of this situation and if we send a Pegasus from the capital, it might arrive too late."

"We'll have to take that risk, sir," Leonard said. "We cannot waste any more time. Prince Chrom is expecting you and Lord Temple, and I will not let you travel alone."

"In that case, we'll press on towards the main road." He pointed to a path largely clear of undergrowth. "Which should be in that general direction."
