Where does an adventurer buy his goods? Is he shouting over the roaring crowd of the merchant district, trying to barter the best deal on Goron Iron? Does he meet a mysterious Moblin deep in the Lost Woods, peddling Evil Crystals? Or does he virtuously save a traveling Business Scrub from a Lynel attack, only to be shrewdly awarded with a so-called 'deal' on Deku Nuts? In the land of Hyrule, shopping is an adventure in of itself.

The Marketplace forum is used primarily to conveniently role-play the trade of goods. Much like the Battle Arena, the Marketplace can be in any part of Hyrule, or even a dream world. There are two types of threads to post here: Solo threads, and Exchange threads.

    Solo Threads
In a Solo thread, a player's character can use her spare rupees to buy materials and other certain items from temporary NPC characters the player invents, like a Business Scrub. This sort of thread can be as brief or as detailed as you like; you're not required to make it longer than one post. The role-played purchase can be concurrent with your character's quest, or a separate venture entirely. Generally, a Solo thread only involves your character(s), and no other players, but this isn't a requirement.

To make a Solo thread, please:
    1. Include [Solo] somewhere in the thread's title.
    2. Stay in-character with your post(s).
    3. Only purchase item(s) from the Marketplace Goods list, which includes almost all items with a set cost. (Click here to view.)
    4. Deduct rupees accordingly; you don't need to wait for a Staff member to "approve" your purchase.

    Exchange Threads
Alternatively, you can post an Exchange Thread. Here, you offer any items or services to other characters, or ask for such things from other characters. If you have a Bomb Bag you'd rather sell, for instance, you can do so--and if you sell them to a character with low Power, you might even be able to make a profit. Characters can also offer services, such as a skilled Blacksmith offering to combine materials to create a glowing, flaming longsword which enables its wielder to use a Spin Attack (using Glow Iron, a Fire Elemental Gem, and Memory Metal in the process).

Notably, you cannot exchange ability treasures--to include spells, techniques, and traits. You cannot trade a Major treasure. You can generally exchange any item treasure--to include magical items, organic items, and mechanical items--so long as the description does not imply it can't be traded, and the item isn't Major. You can give free rupees to other players, but it is frowned upon to trade significant amounts of rupees between your own characters.

To make an Exchange thread, please:
    1. Include [Exchange] somewhere in the thread's title.
    2. Try to stay in-character with your posts. A Kokiri who has necrophobia probably wouldn't walk up to a Stalfos and buy something from it, but exchanges need not be made in-person, either.
    3. Make sure both characters involved in an exchange agree with the trade before it is done.
    4. Deduct rupees and add/remove items as appropriate. Although a Staff member patrols the Marketplace routinely, you need not wait for his approval to finish your transaction.

If you have any questions or comments, you're welcome to post in Role-Play Discussion, or in the Shoutbox.
