Chuckles was rather disturbed by Dust's silence, and even more so by the emptiness of his eyes. They were like tiny, black orbs of the void, lifeless, so empty they seemed as if they might suck the world into them. Chuckles could only look on in horror as Dust merely twisted his head, and from the angle at which Chuckles was at, said twist appeared rather grotesque, like the Caterpie's head might twist all the way around. But it was only an illusion of the dim light, but Chuckles was nonetheless frightened. "Ahaha.... Hahaha... That was a pretty good joke, right guys...? Right...?" He laughed nervously, incredibly offput by the silent gargoyle that sat upon the human male's head.

Thankful that the aforementioned human began to move away, Chuckles took a moment to look around and take the scenery in. They had, indeed, come to a fork in the road as the girl had so aptly observed. Clyde already seemed intent upon going down the stairs, and Chuckles couldn't say that he blamed him, since it was clear that they had nowhere else to go. But the Shuckle did not like the sound of the river; it was mighty loud, and seemed to move rather swiftly. The tiny pokemon could only imagine what would happen if he slipped and fell into the rushing rapids; he shivered just thinking about it. Thus it was that he found himself climbing down the steps, rather tentatively, and once again behind Clyde... looking straight into those beady, demonic orbs.

Catherine absently offered her own Pokegear for use, as she stepped closer to the ledge and looked down. It was quite a drop. She felt the breeze at her face as she brushed a lock of hair away. She hadn't been here before... "I wonder where we are..." At any rate, she hoped that she would end up in more easily located locales, pleasant places where she could easily return to towns she needed to go to. At least there were paths and stairs here, so it had to lead somewhere.

As she went down the steps, she looked down at the Shuckle, who had been following them since the caves. Something seemed to have unsettled him, though. And his speed had greatly decreased since they'd gotten on the steps, so she knelt down and picked him up, muttering softly, "It's okay." She decided to carry the Shuckle, at least until he stopped looking so scared. He was a bit heavier than she thought, but she thought she could handle it, at least for a little while.

Alyn accepted the pokegear with an extreme amount of gratitude. She attempted to use it, but to no avail, the Pokegear simply wouldn't work for her. There was probably some sort of restriction on the use of the pokegear for TM, for safety reasons. She gave the pokegear back to Catherine, and followed them down the stairs.

The river cascaded against the rocks in the cave, bombarding Alyn's ears with roaring blasts. Darren ignored his distaste of the dreadful water, and decided to have a look around. He started making high pitch sounds to begin to get an idea what kind of place he was in, and if there were any wild pokemon hiding that he could beat down, because this human of his certainly wasn't as smart as her uncle-person and won't find anything on her own.

(Gligars have echolocation, not that any of the trainers know that)

Without even coming to a verbal decision, it seemed the group all chose to walk down the steps to the lower path by the river. As Clyde picked up a few stones, Darren swooped about making loud echoing cries, checking the area. The sounds coming from his mouth seemed to put Zaps on edge, who quickly descended the rest of the stairs. Naomi looked at him curiously as she looked over the edge of the steps into the water.

Suddenly, emerging from the waves came a rather angry-looking Pokemon, it's long tentacles flinging another Pokemon, this one blue with a green lilypad on it's head, at Zaps, who went crashing into the opposite wall as the blue-ish Pokemon laid ontop of him with a sighing "Lo".

Also emerging from the water further upstream was a pink-ish coral Pokemon, looking at all the others curiously but keeping it's distance.

Alyn spotted the little blue pokemon with the lily-pad sombrero. " Oh, that one looks cute! I've gotta have it! First things first..." the move that came to mind first was a strategy her uncle told her to use when dealing with pokemon that came from the water with Darren. " Darren, use Sunny Day!"

The way he had explained it was that water type moves begin to waver under the harsh sunlight created by the move, which would help Gligar out as a ground type immensely. Darren start spinning in the air, and began to glide smoothly towards the ledge to cling to the wall. He began to taunt the pokemon with stupid faces as he did so, leading to sighs of annoyance from Alyn and probably anyone who gave a damn.

"Get on it, Dust." On cue, the little worm leaped from his trainer's head and twirled deftly through the air, before landing on the ground in front of him with the softest of squeaks. He carefully maneuvered towards the water, glaring intently but calmly at the creature within it... "Prepare a web."

Tiny electrical surges began to crackle at Dust's snout, remaining poised at the edge of the water... on his guard, but not attacking just yet. "Psh, we could forgive you if you just swam away," Clyde cackled maliciously, "But one wrong move... well... I've never actually tried grilled tentacool, but I bet you'd be delicious~!" A tongue slicked across the trainer's upper lip as he relished the thought of devouring their prey, completely unaware to the fact eating a poison pokémon would almost definitely kill him.

Clyde stood back, hands in his pockets as his eyes glanced at the swimming pokémon, anticipation building as he awaited the petty thing's decision... a malicious grin spreading across fanged teeth. His eyes flashed towards the pink one in the distance, paying it little mind as he and Dust focused instead on their first victim.

Catherine set the Shuckle down as the wild pokemon emerged from before them. This was a great opportunity. The Gligar's taunt was distracting, but she got over it quickly, giving a single sigh. She looked at the one at the back... she wanted that one, yes she did. She drew out her Pokedex. "Corsola. The Coral Pokemon. They live together in large groups, and sometimes people may live upon them."

"That sounds good..." She mumbled, to herself more than to anyone else, and she rummaged through her bag for a pokeball. Finding one, she took it in her hand and waited for a more opportune time. Maybe she could even convince someone to help her catch it...?

Darren quickly took to the air as he flew around in a circle, creating a large orb of light that just hung in the air, shedding bright light throughout the cavern they stood in. As he hung on the rock wall, taughting it's opponents. The Lotad growled at the sudden bright light, and as it did Zaps pushed it off as electricity jumped around the electric mouse. "Pi-ka-chu!" he cried out as lightning leapt off Zaps and struck the Lotad with a Thunder Shock.

The Tentacool, taking it's chance, whipped a tentacle out of the water and struck Dust with a Poisin Sting, though the poisin on the end of the strike only hit the dust that always covers Caterpie's skin and so the most harmful part of the attack was negated. With the first blow struck, Dust countered with his own attack, spitting his Electroweb into the water, causing streaks of lightning to rip through and hit both Tentacool and Corsola. In a panic to protect itself, Corsola dove underwater and used Harden to toughen it's skin.

As the venomous tentacle lashed across Dust's hide, he was light body was flung away from the force of the blow. As he twirled through the air, his suction-cupped foot snagged hold of the ground--"Blast it out of the water! Psychic!"--and latched hold as his mind's focus sharpened into a blunt force.

With a fanged grin, Clyde pulled a vacant a poké ball from the inside of his jacket. Perhaps it was common, and maybe it wasn't even the strongest pokémon of the three swimming around--but he could see in its eyes just how much of a sadistic fiend the monster was. Poison coursed through its body, and whips lashed out with menace... All arch-villains start somewhere, and nowhere more appropriate than a sniveling wimp which lashes out at every living thing around it. Clyde could only imagine the aquatic demon was picking on the Lotad over there... If it could endure two of Dust's strongest attacks, then it was indeed, he thought, worthy of training. Watching intently, eyes wide and irises tiny, he searched for an opening to sling the ball forth...

With his focus heightened, Dust's mind lunged towards his victim, attempting to focus the psionic blast beneath the tentacool to send it flying out of its precious river and onto dry land.

Alyn watched the scene play out, unsure what to do next. She pulled up what she was told Darren's move set was earlier from her memory. Poison would do good against plant like pokemon, right? It had a lilypad on its head, so she'd have to give it a shot. " DARREN, Fire a poison sting at the one with the Sombrero!"

Darren didn't understand which pokemon she meant, because he'd never seen something like a sombrero before, but he got the gist that she meant the Lotad, and leaped from the wall to dive towards his target before spewing a swarm of purple glowing needles from his mouth and pulling back up into a glide.

Alyn began reaching into her bag to find an empty pokeball, but it was cluttered with junk such as snack foods and personal hygiene products, she was starting to get frustrated about finding the pokeball.

Catherine was not pleased to see that the Corsola decided to dive in rather than face the onslaught of attacks. It seemed a rather timid pokemon. She snuck around the battle as best she could, trying to get at a new angle from which she could see the pink pokemon. She wasn't about to throw the ball into the water; that would lose its momentum and she had no idea if it would work that way. Instead she looked around and tried to find some way to force it out of the water. She found a rock, then tossed it into the water nearby where she saw the Corsola dive. Maybe she could scare it into coming back up. And if she could, she was waiting here, poke ball at the ready. Her eyes scanned the surface intently as she got ready to throw it.

So the battle raged on between the wild Pokemon and the eager trainers looking to add more allies to their respective teams. The Tentacool quickly launched a spray of poisonous needles at Dust again, striking the little Caterpie once more, but didn't expect the strange psychic energy to explode around it, blasting it out of the water and onto the pathway, landing with a heavy 'thud', as the attack seemed to be super effective.

As the hail of poison needles from Darren hit the Lotad, it responds with Absorb as Darren finished his attack, feeling some of his energy drain out as it flies along in little orbs into Lotad. Just as Lotad heals though, Zaps attacks with another Thunder Shock, zapping the Lotad once more.

Amongst all these attacks, the Corsola in the water simply swam to the opposite side of the river, reinforcing it's skin to ward off deadly rocks that wish to fall on it's head.

So sooner did the tentacool arrive on land, than Clyde launched his arm. The poke ball left his grip, flying towards the aquatic, poisonous monster with as much speed as the trainer could possibly fling it--his eyes wide with greed and teeth clenched with anticipation.

Dust hissed quietly as he endured the poisonous strikes... the sight of the speeding red-and-white sphere reflecting across his big, beady, unblinking black eyes. He and his trainer felt the tension mount in the air as the mere second the ball flew felt to them like hours of suspense.

    (Tl;dr - Clyde threw a poké ball!)

Alyn finally found a pokeball in the clutter of her bag, and clicked the pokeball's button to ready the ball, as she turned her attention back to the battlefield. "Okay Darren, Swoop right down onto him and use poison sting straight into his face!"

Gligar bounced off the wall and began to glide and dip into a nosedive towards the Lotad, shouting wildly and readying to blast the lotad in the face.

As soon as she could, Alyn would toss the pokeball at the lotad, if the proper chance came up. She would just sit there, and wait for the oppurtune chance to toss.

The battle raged on with such fury the likes of which probably none of these Pokemon have seen yet. Diving forward at the Lotad, Darren launched a fury of needles that struck the Lotad head-on. As he pulled out of his dive, Alyn saw her chance and hurled her Pokeball at the Lotad. As that went on, Clyde likewise hurled his Pokeball at the injured Tentacool. As the ball hit, a flash of red light scooped up the Pokemon and dropped the shaking Pokeball on the ground. It shook, and rolled, and shook some more, until finally silence.

    'Ping.'

With that sound, Clyde had successfully caught his target, unfortunately Alyn wasn't so lucky, and the Lotad managed to break free, hitting Darren with another Absorb. It was so close, but at the very least it seemed like Darren's last attack had managed to weaken it with poison.

Naomi, seeing Catherine by the water, decided to go over. Looking into the running water, she could make out the faint pink of the Corsola, and she also saw the Pokeball clutched in the young trainers hand. "Let me help. Zaps, come here and use Thundershock." Zaps, doing as asked, walked over to the water's edge and used Thundershock, sending electricity into the water and zapping the Corsola. In a panic, it swam to the surface to attack, trying to desperately defend itself with a Tackle.

Just as it connected with Zaps, Catherine hit it with the Pokeball. It shook, struggled, and shook some more, until it finished and it let out the same 'ping' sound. Naomi turned to Catherine with a smile, "congratulations, good catch."

As the ball twitch, the white of Clyde's eyes expanding and his grin grew all the more vicious. As the ping sounded, his arm shot to the tiny sphere as he launched it to the air caught tightly in his fist, "YES!!" He glared at Dust with a malicious grin, "Fuck. Yes. Motherfucking. Tentacool."

He proceeded to pump his fist frantically several more times, even thrusting his pelvis while doing so... It was scene quite reminiscent of a frat boy who had way too much to drink and was embarrassing all of his friends. The only one here who had anything remotely to do with him prior to this series of uncanny events, however, did only than stare at him blankly with wide, black pupils... Head tilting to one side, the caterpie was concerned for his trainer's sanity more than anything else.

That was, until--"Up, Dust." A string shot snagged hold of the human's outstretched hand and the little bug was launched up onto his shoulder, and soon joined in the vigorous display of victory and accomplishment in the only way a limbless worm could.

Of course, Clyde was all quite oblivious to the fact he was not the only one to catch a pokémon just now, much less that the actual battle wasn't even over. Eventually, he did manage to calm down enough to actually start thinking again, if only because he had quickly run out of breath. His vicious glare returned to aloof callousness, and his fanged grin become a slight smirk. He glanced at the tentacool for a moment, thinking on what to do with the creature for a moment, before quietly crossing his arms and looking over towards the proceeding battle with the one wild pokémon which yet remained--Dust doing the same upon his shoulder.

"Damn, it failed... I guess I should just..TRY AGAIN!" if it boiled down to it, she could keep chucking them until she had none left. It was down to just the Lotad. The small pokemon had strength to it, for sure.

Darren would be stronger, the brave pokemon would battle until he could stand no more, but that wasn't the point of this battle. There is strength in numbers, and numbers she should have. The battered lotad was fighting a losing battle at this point, that was sure. It may have had more experience, but Darren had the advantage of natural strength against a pokemon like lotad.

His name will be... Hats. Why Hats? The name just occurred to her, the lilypad sobrero on the head of the lotad struck her as a major point of the pokemon's existence. A dish to collect rainwater, for when it needed it.

She found another pokeball from her bag near immediately the clutter of her bag giving way to her efforts. She used her thumb to hit the button on the small ball, and flung it as hard as she could. All she could do was way for the ball to fall from the air and reveal what luck had in store for her.

"Ah," said Catherine as Naomi stepped in to help. "Thanks." She held her breath as the ball shook, even as it grew weaker and weaker with each moment. It felt as though a lifetime had passed before it finally settled down, making a soft ping to alert her to a successful capture. She let out the tense breath and knelt down to pick it up.

She turned to the other trainer again and added, "Thanks again. Hopefully I'll be able to return the favor next time."

She let out the Corsola for a bit, patting it. "You're gonna be traveling with me, all right? I'll call you Cory, is that okay?" The Corsola seemed a bit hesitant, but at least it looked glad that it wasn't going to be hit any more.

Gligar soared through the air, firing another hail of Poison Sting at the Lotad who was becoming increasingly weakened by the constant barrage of poison. As the Lotad stumbled about preparing it's offense, it was hit by another Pokeball from the determined Alyn. As the red light once more absorbed the Pokemon into the red and white sphere, it dropped to the ground and shook once more.

    'Ping'.

Hats the Lotad was caught, Alyn had managed it on try number two. With the new Pokeball in her hand, Alyn had caught her first wild Pokemon and was slowly building up her own team. "Quite the success," Naomi smiled to the group, "but shall we get going now?" Zaps nods, scampering towards the hallways they were going towards before being interupted.

Chuckles, emerging from his shell fearfully, looked around and let out a deep sigh. It looked like the smoke as settled, and that the battle was over. Are things always going to be exciting with these guys...? The Shuckle wondered, curious as to if his heart could take it. He did find it rather peculiar that thus far, none of the trainers had even attempted to catch him. He wondered if it had something to do with the afro glued to his head, with berry juice. Scratching at the poofy wig, Chuckles was glad that for whatever reason, the trainers seemed disinclined to add him to their party. Shrugging, the clown shuckle followed after the scampering Pikachu, curious as to what adventures lay ahead. Perhaps it wouldn't be as bad as he thought... Though it would take some getting used to, that Caterpie. He shuddered, but pressed on, refusing to turn around and look the thing in the eyes.
