    This, my friends and countrymen, is the Battle Arena! Here is where characters battle to the death, backed by a savage crowd cheering for bloodshed, all for great prizes!

    Arena Rules
    Show Spoiler
    Like all Separate Role-Play Areas, characters may be here and anywhere in the main role-play simultaneously. Anything which would affect their relationships or health in a battle here--even death--only lasts within the battle and will not affect future battles or the main role-play. Aside from this, all normal role-play rules apply.

    What is known as "god-modding" is strictly forbidden. This includes but is not limited to:
    -> Having your attacks hit 'automatically,' without giving your opponent a chance to role-play evading it.
    -> Having attacks targeting you miss an unreasonably large amount of time (or having them always hit).
    -> Having attacks deal too little (or too much) damage to you.
    -> Having your character act well beyond their capabilities. This also includes being able to battle unhindered even after taking substantial damage, or performing superhuman feats without the means to do so.

    Battle Types
    Show Spoiler
    There are five different forms of battle you can undertake within the arena, and the prizes you receive vary for each. The five types are: an exhibition match, a challenge match, a Lord's Tourney match, a Player's Tourney match, or a gauntlet.

    Exhibition Match
    An exhibition match is one in which two or more combatants enter the arena independent of the Arena Lord's influence or any tournament. Although the Arena Lord will by default determine who wins the battle, the combatants may opt to use their own judgement if all participants agree upon it beforehand.

    In this battle, the prizes are determined primarily by the combatants themselves. All combatants may normally put up items or a rupee amount to be wagered. Naturally, the loser's wagers will go to the victor. What is being gambled must be agreed upon by all participants beforehand, and can be as little as one rupee or as great as several prestigious magic-tier items. Immaterial treasures or those bearing severe limitations, such as spells, profession levels, and major treasures, cannot be wagered.

    Regardless of any wages put up by the players, the victor will always be awarded at least 20 rupees. Supposedly, these rupees are paid in part by spectators.

    In addition to these standard rewards, the Arena Lord may add some of his own prizes to the pot. He has been more likely to do this if the battle already had high stakes, was particularly entertaining, or is between renowned combatants. However, he never reveals what he has bet until the moment before the victor is declared.

    In Exhibition Matches, it is assumed the default battlefield (see below) is used unless otherwise stated.

    Challenge Match
    A challenge match is similar to an exhibition match, albeit with an extra twist, as the Arena Lord becomes indirectly involved. Only a fighter who has participated in a previous battle may request to host a challenge match.

    The battlefield may be of the host's choosing, or he may decide to leave it up to the Arena Lord. Once the location has been chosen, the Lord will deftly involve various traps and surprises into the landscape (unless of course it is one he has previously prepared), none of which are known to any of the actual combatants. To make this possible, each combatant should await a message from the Arena Lord before making their next move.

    Over the course of the battle, various surprises will spring forth unexpectedly... sometimes aiding combatants, but usually hindering or hurting them. Due to the added excitement this brings to the match, the Arena Lord is particularly willing to add his own treasures to the wagers put forth by the players.

    Lord's Tourney Match
    In this form of battle, combatants engage one another due to entering an Arena Tournament run by the Arena Lord himself. This style of battle involves one individual fighting another, and may have some various restrictions or alterations of the typical rules depending upon the rules of the tournament.

    In these matches, the victor is always chosen by the Lord himself. The prizes given to participants are from the Lord's hand, as well.

    The Lord usually provides a selection of different arenas for the combatants to choose from before the battle begins.

    Player's Tourney Match
    In this form of battle, combatants engage one another due to entering an Arena Tournament run by an individual who is not the Arena Lord. Every detail of these tournaments is determined by whoever hosts them--including prizes, how the victor is determines, arena, and so forth.

    However, the host must normally provide most of the prizes himself. The Arena Lord may provide assistance with providing prizes, particularly if the host is a renowned combatant.

    Gauntlet
    A gauntlet holds a unique flavor from other matches. It begins with the combatant approaching the Arena Lord directly and requesting a gauntlet. Normally a gauntlet will only be provided to a combatant with at least some arena experience, and even then, there is usually demanded a fee in rupees.

    If the Arena Lord accepts, he will provide or create a battlefield stuffed with monsters or traps for the challenger to overcome. Seeing as they are loyal slaves of the Lord himself, the monsters and traps will be controlled directly by the Arena Lord.

    Though it is particularly difficult to emerge victorious, the survivor of a gauntlet will receive prizes much larger than what he expended to begin it. What those prizes are, however, are not revealed until he has come out alive. Needless to say, participating in one of these tends to be one of the better ways to get on the Arena Lord's good side, too... second perhaps only to winning a tournament he's hosted.

    The Arena Lord
    Show Spoiler
    The Arena Lord himself is known to be a Subrosian bearing a black cloak, as opposed to the typical red. He employs many servants, most of whom seem to be Darknuts. It is known that he possesses unfathomable strength both in body and in mind, is capable of unbelievable feats of magic, and has more stored wealth than one could ever know.

    Though few know firsthand of how he fights, it is said that he has given up combat due to the fact there was no force which provided him a challenge. This is why he created the arena, supposedly, so he could enjoy the sights of weaker warriors pushing their limits. Perhaps, one day, one will even grow strong enough to provide him a true battle once more.

    His history and true appearance remain shrouded in mystery.

    Determining Victors
    In most matches, the Arena Lord determines the victor at his own discretion. Who is chosen depends on comparing the following factors as employed by all sides during the fight:
    -> Entertainment value of posts
    -> Reasonableness of fighting style, given the character's strengths and limitations
    -> Strength of tactics
    -> Role-playing skill

    A victor is only chosen after only all but one fighter is incapacitated. Whoever this fighter happens to be is not necessarily chosen as the victor, however.

    Approaching the Arena Lord
    If an individual wishes to speak with the Arena Lord, whether to make a request or for any other reason, he may enter the Arena Hall and make his words known there via a new thread. Most likely it will be one of the Lord's many servants which answers the call, but if he is not occupied, the Lord himself may show up in person.

    Renown
    Individual characters may become renowned among the Arena Lord, his followers, and the mysterious spectators of the arena. Those with renown may be granted a few favors by the Lord, including setting up a gauntlet. Greater renown can lead to more challenging gauntlets, more assistance with running your own tournaments, and better rewards in the exhibition matches in which you participate (whether or not you win). Renown, however, has absolutely no effect on your odds of winning any battle.

    Increasing your renown is as easy as participating in the arena in some way. Doing things to become famous in the Arena or provide the Lord with high-quality entertainment are more effective means of acquiring greater amounts, however.[/spoiler]

    Default Battlefield
    Show Spoiler
    Players are encouraged to design their own battlefield. Unless stated otherwise, however, this is the battlefield used in all arena matches.

    "The time is evening's twilight, setting the battlefield orange, and the weather is partly cloudy. The battle centers around a white-marble platform of a perfect circle, extending in a diameter of roughly one-hundred meters. The top of the circle is filled in with patches of dirt and short grass. Throughout the battlefield are spread one-dozen large oak trees, feasible to climb. Surrounding the marble platform on all sides is a six-meter wide pit of spikes, each spike a long, narrow, and sharpened log jetting out of a pit of mud. Beyond these pits is a bloodthirsty and savage crowd, cheering on the combatants. The bleachers extend several hundred meters outwards and upwards. Beyond this point, however, exists nothing but barren rockland interspersed with the occasional weed, of an unknown country or location. Immediately outside the bleachers is a magical cage controlled by the Lord himself; it normally appears invisible, but will immediately form an invincible barrier towards any solid or liquid material which comes against it.

    The battle begins with each combatant teleported to the far opposite sides of the marble platform."
