(This character is made because of the Christmas Event 2012 granting me access to Vet races for one character. Proof)

    Honor: Regular

    Name: Jhora Halfborn

    Age: 38

    Gender: Female

    Race: Subrosian

Place of Origin: Subrosia Village, Subrosia

    PWC: 5/2/2

    Treasures:
    Bombcraft (open)
Level 1: The Bombcrafter has general access to the materials needed for creating bombs and can now aptly adjust the compounds of the bomb to allow alteration of fuse lengths and stability of their bombs in a more capable manner. This opens up other possibilities such as creating bombs with shrapnel, hard or soft shells, and so on.

Bomb Bag--A Bomb Bag is a small satchel, comparable in size to a honeydew, which can be attached to a belt or backpack. At any given time, the user can reach into this sack to inexplicably pull out a fist-sized bomb already lit with a fuse of about five seconds. It will explode violently, when the fuse runs out, but can also burst with a significant impact or enough heat. Strangely, this sack only functions when an individual bomb is pulled out one at a time--for instance, the user cannot simply dump out the would-be contents of the sack.

Rupees: 20 (100 rupees - 50 rupees for profession - 30 rupees for Bomb Bag = 20 rupees left over)

    Height: 3' 1"

    Weight: 75 lbs

    Equipment:
Weapons - Besides her bombs the only weapon that Jhora has is a tempered steel rapier that was a gift from her older brother Kydar. The rapier has an ornate cup hilt of tempered steel as well with carvings that Kydar himself added. The slender, very sharply pointed blade is about one and a half feet long and about half an inch in diameter. Jhora's rapier is meant for thrusting only and is no where near as effective at slashing. Jhora keeps her rapier through a loop on a brown leather belt she keeps tied around the waist of her robes.

Clothing - Jhora wears a multilayered Subrosian robe to keep her body heat in to keep her from freezing to death. She never takes off her robes, so no one is quite sure how many layers she actually wears or what the layers are made of. Her robes do make her look a little taller if not a little thinner than the average Subrosian, but no one can be sure. Jhora's robes are a dull white in color and covered with black spots from her bomb making from the blast powder. On her right shoulder is a red Goron symbol that is made of dried Darknut blood that a Goron had drawn on her during the Siege of Goron City.

Misc - Jhora's workshop/house is a large cart that is near full of jars of blast powder, bomb casings, and fuses. Jhora pulls the cart by herself from place to place. At night she slips in between her bomb making supplies to sleep. Also in her cart is a pair of heat resistant gloves so Jhora's body heat doesn't set bomb mixtures off during the crafting process. Jhora's most prized possession is a black and gold Darknut helmet that she got from a Darknut she had killed during the Siege of Goron City during the final years of Ganon's charge in Southern Hyrule.

Appearance: All that most people see of Jhora are her robes and her large glowing orange eyes. Darkness surrounds her face from her robe's hood. Due to this her face is all but a mystery. Through her robe one could tell that she is tall for a Subrosian, but thin as well. Despite her small stature Jhora is very, very strong due to the pressure from living in Subrosia for a good chunk of her life.

Personality: Jhora used to be a very bright and happy girl once upon a time. But now because of the experiences that she has suffered through (being disowned by her family, being forced into a strange new land, losing her brother and all of her friends in Ganon's invasion of Southern Hyrule, experiencing the horrors of war at a rather young age, watching people be slaughtered by all manner of dark beast from Ganon's Hordes, and in essence losing anything and everything she had ever held dear to her) she is more distant and less willing to share her feelings. Happiness has been replaced with solemness, joy with pain, love with distance. Because of losing her friends and family Jhora is very slow to trust and even slower to make friends. Jhora also suffers from PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Jhora has a hard time falling asleep as her dreams always go back to Goron City or the imagined deaths of her friends. When she does manage to fall asleep it is usually for an hour or two before she awakens either screaming or ready to strike at anything near her, which is usually the Yellow Chu. During her waking hours she will sometimes zone out and re-experience the years of the Goron City Siege. During these episodes she will shake violently and fall to the ground crying or yelling sometimes both. She is almost always in a state of hypervigilance. In her hypervigilance, she is a perpetually scanning the environment to search for sights, sounds, people, behaviors, smells, or anything else that is reminiscent of the trauma of her past. Jhora is always on high alert in order to be certain danger is not near. This leads to a variety of obsessive behavior patterns, as well as producing difficulties with social interaction and relationships.

Residence: Jhora's "house" is the cart that she pulls around that hold her bomb crafting supplies. Jhora feels right at home in between jars of blast powder and empty bomb cases wherever Jhora can fit in her cart at night. The cart is a small bittersweet reminder what all she had and who all she lost.

Pet: Jhora has a small yellow Chu Jelly that has no name that always follows her. The Chu is docile for some reason and doesn't seem to want to combine or split at all with any other Chu Jellies of it's own color or other colors. Jhora has been able to take small bits of the Chu to add as fuel for some experimental bomb designs.

Backstory: Jhora was born to the very large Halfborn family in Subrosia. She was the absolute middle child in a generation of nine children. In her generation Jhora never really stood out. She was lost in a sea of siblings. It wasn't until she was age 12 that she really got noticed by her parents and the other adults in her family, and not in a good way.

After turning 10 Jhora began to learn her chosen trade for life bombcrafting. She and her youngest sibling, Tibult, studied bombcrafting from their uncle James. After their uncle went to deliver a batch of bombs to a customer Jhora went about messing around with bomb supplies over filling a bomb casing with blast powder. Tibult protested Jhora's playing and tried to take the bomb from her. Jhora resisted and pulled back. After a struggle Jhora slipped back and the overstuffed bomb fell to the floor and went off. Jhora was sent flying into a wall of the workshop, but Tibult caught full blast of the bomb. He was blown to pieces on the spot where Jhora just suffered major injuries and was knocked out for a couple of days.

After Jhora awoke she found that she was alone in her bed with shouting coming from outside the door of her room. Jhora could quite clearly hear her father yelling very loudly at another unknown voice. Jhora's father was yelling about how Jhora had killed Tibult and that she deserved the same fate as her younger brother. The other voice calmly responded that Jhora should not be killed, but instead have what happened to him happen to her. Jhora was scared out of her mind. Her own father was wanting to kill her for killing her younger brother. Finally Jhora's father yelled that Jhora was disowned by the Halfborn family and stormed off shouting various curses at both Jhora and Kydar. Jhora's eyes widened at the mention of her older brother who had been disowned from the family for his magic and his desecration of the dead.

A soft knock came at the door a few seconds later. Jhora squeaked a bit hiding under her covers. The door opened revealing a very large Subrosian, for their standards anyways, with glowing red eyes wearing a black robe with a white skull printed on the front holding a metal staff in his hand. The Subrosian introduced himself as Kydar. Jhora's already large eyes nearly doubled in size as the Subrosian introduced himself. In a calm almost soothing voice Kydar told Jhora that he was here to take Jhora with him and that because of the bomb accident that she was disowned from the family and was nearly killed for killing another Halfborn. Kydar closed his eyes and placed his hand over Jhora's forehead. A white light glowed from Kydar's hand as Jhora's injuries were healed. Kydar opened his eyes and held out a hand to Jhora. She hesitantly took Kydar's hand and the two left the Halfborn house.

As the two left all of Jhora's brothers and sisters watched saying nothing. Finally the second oldest of the generation, who was three years Kydar's junior, shouted that Kydar was a filthy corpse defiler and that Jhora was a cold hearted family murderer. Kydar simply ignored the comment, but Jhora had to really try to fight back tears from the verbal attack by her older sister. Once out of and away from the house Kydar stopped and comforted Jhora in a hug. In Kydar's naturally calm voice he said that Jhora was his younger sister and that he would always look out for her. Almost against her will Jhora broke down sobbing as Kydar hugged her. Kydar assured her that no one would harass her anymore about what happened. Kydar told her that they were going to the surface world.

After a three day trek the two Subrosians reached the portal to Hyrule. Kydar told Jhora to prepare herself for the temperature to drop a lot in a very short time. Jhora nodded as she slipped on her white heavy Subrosian robe. Kydar took her by the hand and the two headed through the portal. Once they stepped out of the portal a extremely cold breeze blew by the two Subrosians as they set foot on the Subrosian Glacier. Jhora was hit with the cold like a ton of bricks. She stood completely still and shivered rather violently. Kydar handed her a near white hot chunk of metal the he had hid under his robes to keep it warm. Jhora hugged the metal chunk very tightly and her shivering lessened. A large Hylian waved the two down and Jhora, never having seen a Hylian before, hid behind Kydar. The Hylian leaned down to Jhora and Kydar. He introduced himself as Daniel Massey. Daniel led Kydar and Jhora to a boat and the three set sail to Hyrule.

The trip took about four weeks, but eventually the three reached the beach of Hyrule Bay on the Southern Hyrule side. Kydar paid Daniel with crystals that Jhora had never seen before. She curiously watched the exchange before hiding behind Kydar again as Daniel said his goodbyes and set sail again. Kydar chuckled as the two Subrosians set out for the Hylian town of Saria where Kydar has lived in exile from the Halfborn family. On their way Kydar explained to Jhora about the Hylians and their kingdom to the north. Jhora listened intently rather enthralled with the race. Kydar also explained about the other races that also lived on the Hyrulean continent. The proud Goron rock people of Death Mountain who are almost as good of metal workers as Subrosians and excellent bombcrafters. The fish people, the Zora, of Zora's Domain in Lake Hylia in Northern Hyrule who are excellent swimmers and guardians of the lake and all waterways of Hyrule. The plant people Deku of the Deku Kingdom on the north and the Deku guardians of the Kokiri Forest in the south. The Korok plant people of the Kokiri Forest. The all female Gerudo warriors in their fortress in the Eastern Caves of Southern Hyrule. Along with many other races. Jhora was surprised and a little confused of all the races that lived besides just Subrosians.

After a few months of traveling the two finally arrive in Saria. The two Subrosians weren't the only ones arriving to the town on that day. From Northern Hyrule a squad of Hyrule Castle Town Guards had been sent to the town to patrol the area. Jhora was frozen in both awe and fear as a absolutely huge white winged lizard landed next to her. The lizard looked down at the Subrosian and sniffed her a bit. A Hylian man jumped off a saddle on the back of the lizard. He was a huge man who scared Jhora even more. The man smiled and knelled down to the scared Subrosian. He introduced himself as Lieutenant Temple. Jhora was barely able to stutter out the word Jhora when Kydar put a hand on Jhora's shoulder. Kydar introduced both himself and Jhora to Jacob. The lizard leaned down to Jacob and nuzzled him with it's nose. Jacob laughed a bit forgetting to introduce his companion. The Hylian scratched the lizard's head as he introduced her as Eysseth, a Wyvern. Eysseth purred a bit and leaned into Jacob's touch. Kydar laughed comparing the Wyvern to something Jhora had never heard of called a "cat". Jhora was confused as Jacob bowed his head before remounting Eysseth saying he had to go. Jhora asked Kydar what a cat was on their way to his house.

While in Saria, Jacob and Kydar became good friends and usually hung out with each other. Jhora however continued learning her trade, bombcrafting, from an elderly Goron who had settled down in Saria to retire. Once a famed bombcrafter in Goron City he taught Jhora all that he knew. Jhora was hired by Jacob, now the Captain of the Saria Town Guard, to craft bombs for the Guards and actually worked very close with Jacob. One day Jacob asked Jhora to make a run to Goron City to restock on bomb supplies. Jhora agreed to take the task and was given a cart and a horse by Jacob to make her trip go a little smoother. On her way out of the town Kydar stopped his sister and gave her both a parting gift for her journey and a means to defend herself besides her bomb bag that she keeps her bombs in, a well crafted steel rapier. Jhora gladly accepted Kydar's gift and set off.

It was a long and very arduous journey from Saria far in the south to Goron City at the foot of Death Mountain. Once she arrived at Death Mountain and restocked on supplies Jhora first heard news of Ganon's attack on Kakariko Village and several of the other villages in Southern Hyrule. Scared for her brother and Jacob, Jhora asked anyone and everyone about any news of Saria. Jhora's hope was completely crushed when she heard that Saria had been completely destroyed. Jhora tried to exit Goron City and return to Saria to search for Jacob or Kydar, but the Gorons had sealed off the city preparing for a possible attack on Goron City itself. Seeing as she was now trapped in Goron City Jhora volunteered to help the Gorons build up their bomb stockpiles as a precaution. It was not too long after Jhora had arrived in Goron City that Ganon's armies arrived as well.

Jhora helped the Goron defenders as best she could. For the three year siege Jhora supplied and threw bombs to aid the Gorons defend their home. Jhora also became pretty well versed at using her rapier taking down Miniblins and the occasional Bokoblin. The Gorons looked to be holding out against the siege until about halfway through the third year of the siege, Ganon’s forces completed a path through the mountains and encircled the city. Then supplies from the Northern Hylians stopped coming. Many Gorons and even Jhora thought the Northern Hylians had given up on the Gorons. Without the supplies from the Northern Hylians the Gorons began to get picked apart being attacked from multiple sides. Jhora did her best to help, but her help alone wasn't enough. The brave and strong Goron warriors were slowly being pushed back into the inner sections of the city. Jhora was accompanying a group of seven Gorons when a group of five Moblins and a Darknut cut off the group's exit. The Goron squad leader told Jhora to stand back as he and the other Gorons charged the Moblins. Jhora did what she was told and hid watching the battle from her large eyes. For the most part the Gorons had no problems picking off the Moblins losing only one Goron and killing all five of the Moblins. The Gorons didn't have the same luck with the Darknut. Although outnumbered six to one the Darknut was holding it's own against the rock creatures.

Jhora watched in horror as the Darknut was striking down Goron after Goron. Soon only two Gorons remained. The two Gorons were battling the Darknut closer and closer to where Jhora was hiding. Either thinking quickly or not really thinking at all Jhora climbed atop the wall she was hiding behind and took a running leap drawing her rapier as she flew. The Subrosian landed on the Darknut's back her bare skin making contact with the massive knight's armor causing it to heat up and begin to liquefy. The Darknut roared and grunted in pain trying to shake Jhora off of it. With both the Gorons attacking it and from Jhora's burning it the Darknut was quickly losing the battle. Then in Jhora's crowning moment of badass she drove her rapier straight through a weaker support strap of the armor then straight through the Darknut's throat. The Darknut staggered a bit coughing up some blood as Jhora pulled out her rapier and stabbed the knight again, and again, and again until finally the Darknut fell over dead. Jhora fell off the Darknut her rapier still stuck in it's throat. The injured Goron squad leader pulled out the rapier and handed it to Jhora. The Goron also took off the Darknut's helmet and placed it on Jhora's head. The helmet swallowed the 3' 1" Subrosian up being made for the massive Darknut. The two remaining Gorons laughed a bit as Jhora carefully took off the frilled black and gold helmet making extra sure not to melt it at all with her body heat. The Goron squad leader dipped a finger in the Darknut's blood and drew a small Goron symbol on the Subrosian's white robes. He thanked Jhora on behalf of all the Gorons of Goron City for her assistance in the defense of the city.

Jhora and the two remaining Gorons rejoined a large group of Gorons who had secured a small area in the center of the city. The out look was bleak and the odds of survival looked slim. Until an extremely brave group of Gorons broke through Ganon's lines that were covering the northern entrance to Goron City. The way out had been opened and the Gorons began to retreat, their city being all but lost. During the retreat Jhora had lost her horse, but kept the cart and supplies pulling it along following the Gorons. That was when she saw him. The green cap, the green tunic, and the Blade of Evil's Bane. Although she only saw glimpses of him she got a very good view of the sword. It was him. It was The Link. She had seen The Link. Jhora didn't have too much time to dwell on it as she followed the Gorons into the fields of Northern Hyrule.

After entering the fields of Northern Hyrule Jhora kept with the Gorons as they made their way to the Hylian capital of Hyrule Castle Town. Jhora broke off from the main group and followed a very small group to the farming town of Lon Lon Ranch. One stormy night as Jhora was sleeping in her cart a lone Chu was bouncing it's way over the ground looking for a place to get out of the rain. Upon finding the cart the Chu jumped in and snuggled close to a sleeping Jhora for warmth. In the morning Jhora awoke to find herself almost covered by a Yellow Chu. The blob of jelly seemed to jiggle with every one of Jhora's breaths. A little scared and not knowing what the thing was, Jhora wiggled her way out of it and out of her cart. The Chu followed Jhora and just sat next to where Jhora stood. The Subrosian moved further away testing something. The Chu did the same thing slithering and jumping over to Jhora and going still when next to her. It didn't seem to be attacking her, so Jhora let the blob follow her. Most of the time the Chu stayed inside Jhora's cart. Whenever Jhora would sleep the Chu would wrap itself around her to 'sleep' as well. After many more weeks of travel Jhora finally reached Lon Lon Ranch. Once in Lon Lon Ranch and after a few days of rest Jhora opened a traveling bomb shop from her cart to earn her money and give her something to do. Jhora still does this to this day traveling the fields and towns of Northern Hyrule as a bombcrafter selling her wares.

Your math is correct. That's always a plus :P

    Woohoo, first Bombcraft person!

This was well written, Lucario, great job! Detailed and lengthy, just how I like it. I was impressed by the effort you put in, tying Jhora's backstory in with the History of Hyrule and the fall of Goron City, even connecting her with your other characters. Very nice. I got a little "uh-oh" when you started on Goron City and Link, but you handled them great, I think. You dealt with them efficiently without placing your character in a key, uber-important role, and her only catching a glimpse of the Hero as he headed into the city was, I think, well done. Her little hyperventilation session was cool, I liked that :P

Now, onto the less fun stuff. Before I get into the heavy stuff, I'd just like to remind you to keep an eye on your tense. You flip-flop a lot between past and present ("The Darknut staggers a bit" to almost immediately "Jhora fell off the Darknut"), and I know you have a preference for present-tense so please try and stick with it when you write.

I'm noticing two things, really, that I'd like to bring up for discussion. First, Hylians didn't discover Subrosia until 16 years After Ganon. For a Hylian to be waiting for them when they left Subrosia, and for the Sarians to not bat an eye at her and her brother's presence, seems a little odd. I would like another staffer's opinion on this, though, maybe even -gasp- Toko's (since he knows best about setting).

Second, and something I'd like Ribs' take on, is the Personality section. When I was reading the backstory, I quickly forgot what you had already told me she was like in it, since I was engaged in her story. The impression I got from the backstory was of a scared, frightened, scarred, betrayed child who was forced out of her home into a strange land, and the only friends and family she knew then were horribly massacred and she was forced into participating in a losing battle where everyone around her was being struck down by a murderous Darknut and she had to stab it through the throat and flee the dying city and the lands she knew of forever. I read her as a very scared, previously naive girl who had been put through the horrors of war far too early, yet when I scrolled back up to read the backstory I saw that she was really chipper and happy, with the only side-effects of her past being fits. I don't know, maybe another staffer thinks that this is legit, but it strikes me as weird. Most of the things in the Personality section aren't touched upon in the backstory, such as her love of adventure and habit of throwing fits and strange tendency to talk to stumps.

Other than the two things above, though, this is good. Well written, detailed, and with connections across the History. Nicely done, Lucario. Despite the length of the two things above, don't feel put off. They're small things, I think, and easily discussed and dealt with.

Okay. I went through and tried to fix the tense issues with the backstory. For the backstory I like to keep it in past tense since, as a backstory, it has already happened. I near completely changed her personality. I hope this one is better. I had been working on this character for about a year before the Christmas even in a hope I would eventually become a Vet and be able to make her. The personality was of the first version Lily. That is also why I missed one instance of Lily in her equipment section. Please tell me what you think of the changes and of anything else I need to fix with the backstory. Thank you

I'm sorry, Lucario, I didn't mean for you to have to change your Personality section. I really just wanted you to show more of who you said she was there in your backstory, so that it would be less of a "wut" when scrolling back up to the Personality. The way it was, the two sections didn't add up and were barely connected. I didn't mean for you to change your Personality; if I was read that way, then I'm sorry. I really just wanted you to take what you said she was like in the Personality and show how she was that way in her backstory. Now, that being said, if you prefer this version of the character that's great. Personally, I prefer her this way, but if you want to undo change the to the Personality and reflect it clearly in the backstory that'd be fine too.

I like what you're saying about the "past tense because it's already done in terms of the RP." Great thinking, Lucario.

I do still want someone to comment on the whole "subrosian timeline" thing, though.

I fixed a few more things in the backstory. I would like to get some news about the subrosian timeline thing soon. If at all possible. It's fine Quill. I didn't read it like that. I wanted to change Jhora's personality. I personally like this one better as well. It's going to be a bit more challenging to RP Jhora now because I'm not used to RPing that type of person, but I can at least try right? :haa:

Well, you know what they say about challenges and pushing comfort zones c:

I'm happy you didn't feel forced to change the Personality, and I'm glad to hear you're trying new things. I'll tell Toko to comment on the setting, but I don't know when he'll stop by. Other than the setting thing, I think this is good. Another mod will stop by for grading, since I'd like to start doing a (2/2) thing like we do for TC. I like this; great job, Lucario!

Quill is correct. Subrosians and Subrosia were not known by any of Hyrule until after Impa was constructed and the Easter Sea explored. As of right now the only known portal to Subrosia is on the Subrosian Glacier and seeing as how the Subrosians didn't have any wood around (how could they, they live in a lava place and their portal is in the middle of a glacier) they didn't really get a chance to venture out and touch other species. Because of this Subrosians (this is more of a sidenote) need to hitch a ride off the glacier. However, back on topic, no one knew of them until rather recently.

Hm. Well this doesn't appear to bode well for me. Please tell me I don't have to rewrite the entire backstory. It took me ages to write this one. I will if I absolutely have to, but I would rather not.

Well since you submitted it at first well within the time restraint I'd be willing to give you a bit of room if you need it. Perhaps a few weeks or a month more. However a character like this should be able to be finished in under 2 months.

I think Toko/R.D. may have misunderstood the nature of the Christmas Event. To quote Will specifically

U5 meets all of this criteria. While we're really sorry that the setting information (concerning Subrosia and timeline stuff) wasn't clear enough, there is no time constraint for this character. You can take as long as you need to with it.

Again, sorry for the confusion. If you need anything else from us please don't hesitate to ask.
