    :roop: 10

    Equipment:
    -Trench Coat
A warm trench coat in a dark blue colour, with white turned-up sleeves and lapels. Fashionable enough for the stage, practical enough for the streets.
    -Top Hat
A dark blue top hat with a white band around it. Inside the top hat is an Adventure Pouch, aiding Hestia in storing objects within it.
    -Magician's Baton
A rather heavy gold-plated baton about as thick as a thumb. Don't call it a wand, she hates that.
    -Deck of Cards (x2)
Two decks of otherwise unremarkable cards, save for the fact that one is well-loved and soft, while the other is crisp and barely used. The first is for games, the second for shows.
    -Throwing Knives
A set of straight, wooden-handled knives with no guard, designed for use in knife-throwing acts. She's a fair hand with them, and she can sort of use them in hand-to-hand combat as well. She's more likely to smash a foe over the head with her baton, though.

Appearance: Hestia is rather androgynous, with a flat chest and barely noticeable hips. It doesn't really bother her much, although she can get stroppy about if if somebody points it out. In fact, quite a few people who have seen her shows are under the impression that Hestia is in fact male. She doesn't help this belief in any way, wearing largely masculine clothes. She's not a fan of skirts, mainly because she once tried to do a show in a skirt, tripped over it and squashed the dove that had been in her coat. She hasn't repeated the experiment.

Her hair is kept relatively short, and is a russet brown colour. It tends to stick up in spikes, helped along by the gold band that keeps it back, although it's usually hidden under her top hat. She keeps her fringe long and swept down along one side of her face. Her eyes are also a warm brown colour, and she has a rather mischievous-looking face. She's a relatively short person, standing at about five feet four inches, and weighs roughly- hey, what the hell, why does that even concern you? None of your beeswax!

Personality: Hestia can be a bit of a show-off at times, although that's to be expected with someone as used to the stage as she is. She definitely likes recognition, although she may be flustered and embarrassed by it on the outside, she's glowing on the inside. She tends to be introverted and a worrywart, eternally nervous about one topic in particular- her little brother, Lysander.

Hestia is insanely overprotective of Lysander, especially given his...unpredictable magical outbursts. Lysander is a great deal younger than Hestia, with an age gap between the two of almost 12 years, and that age difference shows. Given that their parents have been absent for a very long time, Hestia has assumed the role of Lysander's protector, and has pretty much taught him everything she knows. In a dog-eat-dog world like Hyrule, he sure as hell needs someone looking out for him.

Hestia is very concerned with appearances. From her years bouncing around at orphanages, Hestia has learned how to be a liar. From flattery to persuasion, Hestia is good with her words, and knows how to swing people to her side. She's built herself up a bit of a reputation for being a hardass, and she's good at remaining focused. She's not particularly good at hiding disdain, however, and has been known to straight up walk out of a room if someone is saying something she deems stupid. However, under this stage-face that never seems to come off, she can be warm and affectionate, and it takes either a special individual or someone incredibly skilled with words to reach that part of her.

She also has a tendency for stories. She likes to tell larger-than-life (and potentially not even true) stories of things that have happened at shows, or people she's met at the various houses and orphanages she bounced between as a child, or even other people she's met on the few times a show has gone so badly wrong as to land her in the town lock-up on charges of endangering people (she usually gets out of those by saying that the people weren't obeying the rules of her performances and caused her to foul up. Usually). Her rather blunt sense of humour can stymie some, but chances are if she looks at you with a deadly serious face and tells you to do something she's cracking up on the inside.

However, her inherent clumsiness appears to be the one crack in her disciplined stage-face. Despite her skills at sleight of hand, Hestia can often goof up in the most inappropriate of moments- the most memorable, perhaps, being the time she went to flick a knife out of one sleeve at a target but smacked her hand on her own opposite shoulder, sending the knife careening into the audience. While she's mostly got this clumsiness under control, a single slip up will often send her into immediate red-faced lock-up, and she's very bad at recovering from a mistake.

Background: Hestia spent the first twelve years of her life living averagely with her parents in Castle Town. There was nothing particularly interesting about the deValant family, except perhaps a tendency for clumsiness- Hestia's mother once tripped in a temple and knocked over an enormous stone statue of Farore, earning them dirty looks from several people for quite some time. When she was nine, however, Hestia's parents had a nasty argument- over what, Hestia never knew; if they'd fought before they'd done a damn good job of hiding it. Hestia's father left the same night. The weird thing was, it didn't really affect her. She heard the stories of other missing-parent children when she went to the temple to be educated, but their stories all sounded so...sad. It wasn't really like that for Hestia. It was just same old, same old, sans one father.

When she was eleven though, everything really did go wrong. Her father had returned to Castle Town and her mother was immediately all over him, berating him for leaving her with Hestia who needed a father. For a while, it seemed like it would work, too- he remained with the family. There was a distance between them, certainly, but it looked like it was all back to the way it had been. At least, until Hestia's mother realised she was pregnant. Whatever the circumstances, her father said he couldn't go through the whole process again. Hestia didn't really begrudge him leaving the second time. As if to put icing on the cake, her mother's age caused her to die during the birth of Hestia's younger brother. For a month Hestia and Lysander were tossed about between foster houses and orphanages, eventually ending up in the care of a temple-run orphanage.

Here, Hestia learned many of the skills that would serve her well in her profession as a magician, including the ability to play poker like a champion. Between the sleight of hand and card skills she learned, it wasn't long before Hestia began performing simple magician tricks on street corners to earn a few rupees. Occasionally a more dangerous trick would go wrong and Hestia would end up either at the doctor's practice or in lock-up, but the rush of delight she got when she shared her talent made it more than worth it. When Lysander was six, though, he began showing signs of some magical defect- he could hear. He could hear everything, and he certainly couldn't control that hearing. Between that and the cross necklace he wore- which had been their mother's- Hestia realised that perhaps her little brother's abilities weren't actually a boon. This sparked her fierce protectiveness of her younger brother, trying to protect him from the worst of his powers.

Today, she works as a street and stage magician, working impressive feats of sleight-of-hand magic to impress the crowds. A little extra money shared between herself and her little brother stage assistant is always a good thing.
